The Central Bank of Russia has denounced this Friday that a group of hackers stole 339.6 million rubles (4.7 million euros) in an attack that took place in 2017 against the interbank system of Swift.

The information about the attack, which was found at the end of the report by the Central Bank on robberies in Russian banks, is the latest in a long list of cyber-thefts made through the use of false transfer requests.

"The volume of operations not validated as a result of this attack represents a loss of 339.5 million rubles," the agency said in a statement. Swift spokeswoman Natasha de Teran has stated that the company does not comment on specific entities.

The spokesman of the Central Bank of Russia Artem Sychev, who is also the vice president of the department responsible for regulating security, has stated that the hackers have withdrawn the money through a previously established pattern.

Swiftindicó at the end of last year that the digital heists are increasing because the hackers use tools and very sophisticated techniques to carry out the attacks. In December, several hackers tried to steal 55 million rubles (779,000 euros) from the Russian state bank Globex through the Swift system.
