The presidential elections in Venezuela will be before April 30

The National Assembly has approved that the elections be in the first quarter of the year, although at the beginning they were expected for December.

The National Constituent Assembly of Venezuela has agreed on Tuesday to hold presidential elections before April 30, pending the National Electoral Council (CNE) set the specific date of the call.
The call for new presidents has been one of the constant demands of the opposition to resolve the political crisis in which the country is immersed and President Nicolás Maduro promised that there would be elections in 2018, "as mandated by our Constitution."
"The Constituent Assembly agrees to convene the presidential elections process for the first four months of 2018," deputy Diosdado Cabello, number two of the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), announced on reading the decree.
Cabello, included on Monday in the list of sanctions of the European Union, has linked the electoral advance with these latest punishments. "If the world wants to apply sanctions, we will apply elections," he said, defending the right of Venezuelans to "choose their destiny," according to local media.
One of the first opponents to react has been the former presidential candidate Henrique Capriles, who has called for "unity more than ever" to "recover democracy." "Today, tomorrow, past, the only great truth is that this government and its leadership is hated by the vast majority of Venezuelans," he has posted on Twitter.
The last presidential elections date from April 2013, when Maduro won the victory over Capriles.
