OyaYansa
The tremor has had its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, with a depth of 19 kilometers, and has been produced by the subduction of terrestrial plates. An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the open Richter scale and several aftershocks shook the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica on Sunday night and only caused minor damage, the National Seismological Network (RSN) reported. The tremor had its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean, 19 kilometers south of Jaco Beach, a town in the province of Puntarenas, with a depth of 19 kilometers, according to the RSN. The earthquake, which occurred at 8:28 pm local time (03:28 on Monday in Euskadi), was felt in virtually all of Costa Rica and was caused by the subduction of the terrestrial plates, that is, the sinking of one of them under other. The firefighters reported that the earthquake caused the fall of objects and power lines in communities near the epicenter such as Jacó, Parrita and Quepos, as well as power cuts, but without causing serious damage to infrastructure or injured people.
