In other words, it's one way of negotiating the tricky and unpredictable terrain known as the future of motoring. Electric cars are going to be more common -- that's just the way everything seems to be heading. They're going to have bigger and better computing power to keep up with safety considerations, car-sharing schemes and whatever else the destiny of personal transportation may demand. And somewhere among all that, the person behind the wheel might like to have a little fun from time to time. It looks like this Sports EV could succeed in various ways if it ever became a production car. Especially since Honda has paid attention to achieving a low center of gravity for optimum dynamics. Will They Ever Sell It? At the Frankfurt show earlier this fall, Honda displayed an Urban EV concept, a subcompact hatchback with clean, simple lines similar to the Sport EV. The company has said a small electric vehicle based on this idea is going to be made for the European market, with a launch date of some time in 2019. But there's no word yet if the Sport EV, which is based on the same platform, will follow suit. Why It's Important A car company has to have a vision of what's down the road and ideas to meet the challenges. The Honda Sports EV Concept is part of a larger plan to have around 60 percent of its output feature some degree of electrification by the time the year 2030 rolls around.
