Google has signed an agreement with leading Android phone manufacturers to defend themselves against patent claims. The project called PAX, which includes Samsung, LG, and HTC, will share patents covering Android and Google applications on any device that meets the requirements for compatibility with the operating system.

They will be exchanged free of charge among the participants, a group that will be free and open for any company to leave when new manufacturers join or want to join.

The full name of the agreement is Android Networked Cross-License, which for short have simplified in PAX, which means peace in Latin, as a symbol of good coexistence that is intended to reach the legal world of technology.

Under PAX, members are mutually granting royalty-free patent licenses covering Android and Google applications on qualified devices. "This community-driven coordination hub, developed with our Android partners, ensures that innovation and consumer choice - not patent threats - will continue to be the main drivers of our Android ecosystem. PAX is free to join and Open to anyone, "explain from Google.

It has not been confirmed what kind of patents will be shared or what exact problems will help to solve; Is expected to serve as a way for companies to defend themselves against patent trolls, patent-seeking companies, and technology giants against intellectual property issues.

Google's agreement with Android makers could be a big win for Samsung as the brand manufactures and sells more devices with this operating system than any other company listed. For Google it is also a step forward as it will help expand its ecosystem so that even the smallest companies can collaborate.

"In the area of intellectual property, patent sharing will match the innovation and healthy competition that benefits consumers," said Jamie Rosenberg, vice president of business for Android.
