  1. The two American soccer confederations are just a few details away from expanding the quotas in international tournaments for MLS and Liga MX clubs to participate. Lionel Messi could have the chance to play the Copa Libertadores for the first time in his career. In the last few hours, the agreement between Conmebol and Concacaf reached the point where only details remain so that the North American clubs can participate in the maximum continental tournament, which would open the door for the captain of the Argentine National Team. This Friday, considerable progress was made in the negotiations between the two confederations and Alejandro Domínguez himself made a video where he hinted that this Monday there would be a great announcement that would change the world of football completely. The way in which the regulation would change is still unknown, but the intention of this agreement would be for the main teams of MLS and Liga MX to be part of the maximum continental tournament, something that happened with the Mexican teams between 1998 and 2016. On the American side, they were only part of the Copa Sudamericana on two occasions, when DC United was invited to the 2005 and 2007 editions for being the current MLS champion, where they entered and were eliminated in the round of 16. In the event that the agreement comes to fruition as expected from both sides of the negotiation, Alejandro Domínguez's desire to see Messi compete in the Copa Libertadores would be fulfilled, something that he made very clear during the tribute to the National Team Argentina world champion. "The one you lack is the Libertadores." There is also no clarity about what Messi (or any other North American team) would need to be part of the great event of South American football. In the particular case of the Rosario star's Inter Miami, they are in last place in the MLS Eastern Conference, so they would be far from completing the criteria to be part of the Concachampions even at this time. How Messi could enter the Copa Libertadores Inter Miami is last in the MLS Eastern Conference, with 18 points in 21 games. Thus, it is very far from a hypothetical classification to an international tournament, in this case the Copa Libertadores. For reference, the United States tournament awards four slots for the Concachampions: The best team of the regular phase The winner of the other conference The champion The best of the general table (that is not any of the above) The Leagues Cup and the US Cup are also disputed, where the Garzas are still in the race for the title. So it could be an alternative that at least one quota is for one of those competitions, especially the Leagues Cup where both MLS and Liga MX teams dispute it. https://www.tycsports.com/estados-unidos/mls/messi-a-la-copa-libertadores-cada-vez-mas-cerca-el-acuerdo-entre-conmebol-y-concacaf-id523572.html
  2. Conservative MP Nadine Dorries is facing a move to force her out of Parliament if she fails to attend for six months. The proposals have been put forward by senior Labour MP Sir Chris Bryant. Ms Dorries said she was standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire in June but later said she would not formally resign until she got more information about why she was denied a peerage. She has not spoken in the Commons since July 2022 and last voted in April. ADVERTISEMENT Six months on from her last vote in Parliament would be 26 October. Under his proposals, first reported by the Financial Times, Sir Chris said a motion could be tabled in Parliament requiring an MP to attend Parliament on a certain date. If they failed to do so he said this could be considered a "contempt of Parliament", which can be punished with a suspension from the Commons. If MPs approve a suspension of 10 days or more this can trigger a by-election in the constituency, where voters have the chance to oust their local MP. Sir Chris, who chairs the Commons standards committee, said the move had basis in a parliamentary rule from 1801 stating that "no member do presume to go out of town without leave of this House". He told the BBC he wanted to see MPs held to the same standards as councillors, who automatically cease to be a councillor, triggering a by-election, if they fail to attend any meetings for six months without good reason. "I just think this is bringing the whole system into disrepute," he said. "Why should you be allowed to draw a salary and claim expenses for your staff and all that kind of stuff if you're not actually doing the job of turning up?" Dorries not doing MP's job properly, says Sunak Dorries's constituents are 'pawns in a game' Sir Chris said he had discussed his proposals with both the Conservative and Labour whips, who help organise each party's contribution to parliamentary business, as well as the Clerk of the House, who advises on procedure. "Everybody knows that, at least in theory, it is a feasible option," he said. Asked if he would table a motion to oust Ms Dorries when Parliament returns in the autumn, Sir Chris said: "Maybe she'll turn up on the first day back in September and take part in debates and so on. Or maybe she'll resign... Let's see what happens." Downing Street said it was for Ms Dorries's constituents to decide whether they were "well served". Last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the people of Mid Bedfordshire were not being properly represented. While he could suspend her as a Conservative MP, Mr Sunak has no power to remove Ms Dorries from Parliament. Ms Dorries has been approached for comment. She has previously claimed that "sinister forces" denied her a seat in the House of Lords. A close ally of Boris Johnson, she has accused Mr Sunak's political team of removing her name from the former prime minister's resignation honours list. She said she had requested copies of all correspondence relating to her nomination for the Lords and was waiting for this process to be completed before she formally resigned. However, the former minister has faced calls, including from her local town council, to resign immediately. Flitwick Town Council said she had not held a surgery in the area since March 2020 and was more focused on her TV show and upcoming book. Ms Dorries has said her office continues to function as normal and she would continue to serve her constituents. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-66427982

Name: Barreleye fish (Macropinna microstoma) Where it lives: The Bering Sea and North Pacific Ocean, between 2,000 and 2,600 feet (600 and 800 meters) deep What it eats: Zooplankton and small crustaceans called copepods Sponsored Links Family Adopts A New Dog - When Vet Sees It He Calls The Police WorldFamilys.com Why it's awesome: As their name suggests, barreleye fish have really weird tubular eyes that they can rotate to gaze upward through their transparent foreheads. Although they appear green, the lenses are actually tinted with a yellow pigment that helps these bizarre fish distinguish between sunlight and bioluminescence. Related: Weirdo blinking fish could hold the secrets to how our ancestors evolved to live on land, new study reveals The ocean's twilight zone — the layer of water from 650 to 3,300 feet (200 to 1,000 m) below the surface — receives just enough sunlight for creatures to cast a faint shadow. Their silhouettes are visible to predators lurking below, which is why some deep-sea critters have evolved light-producing organs on their undersides to match the downwelling light. 4. Food is connection, eating brings us closer to others and right now it is what we need the most. In difficulties, people look for ways to deal with the changes. These days we know that we must be physically far away, away from our "system" (friends, family) to which we turn when there are difficulties. In these months we have learned to connect in different ways. We do the best we can. One way to deal with situations is through food. Food is emotional, it has been a social connector of the human being for a long time. Offering food is part of the social connection of giving-receiving, creating bonds with others. Inviting someone to eat, to celebrate an event (such as a party, wedding, cocktail) is to generate interpersonal closeness. Patterns of culture, family influence, networking, etc. enter. With food we seek to be good hosts, considerate people, we show our personal beliefs, even religious. Since the beginning of humanity... whoever harvested something shared or exchanged it with his neighbors so that both had variety. Then they sold it... then they started the exchange centers that we now know as markets. Eating brings us closer. From sharing a favorite recipe or launching a new one, presenting a beautiful dish, setting a special table with freshly ironed napkins and taking out our favorite decorations. So even though we are far away, we can connect with the few that are close to us. https://dilmun.mx/blogs/blog/la-comida-es-conexion
  5. A Palestinian child walks near cars burnt near Hawara By Tom Bateman BBC News, Hawara Homes in Hawara are charred black alongside burned-out cars cloaked in a layer of ash. The air tastes acrid as people speak of the night their town burned. Residents told the BBC a mob had gone on an hours-long rampage armed with iron bars and rocks before torching buildings, cars and trees. On Sunday the Palestinian town was subjected to one of the worst cases of mass Israeli settler violence in years, hours after two settlers were shot dead by a Palestinian gunman. The settlers attacked our house, they smashed the windows and burned my nephew's cars and trucks. They tried to break into my car showroom and set it on fire," said Abdel Nasser al-Junaidi, speaking outside his home. He described how he had rushed his children up to the rooftop to try to keep them safe. The army did nothing to protect us. It supported the settlers and protected them. The shooting was from both settlers and soldiers. We were terrified. What happened was a horrific and barbaric attack," said Mr al-Junaidi. The scale of the damage becomes clear when you keep walking the length of this town that sits astride Route 60 - the main highway running north-south through the occupied West Bank. A mob torched buildings, cars and trees Home after home is wrecked, shop-fronts are torched as are dozens of cars- including many in a used car lot that went up in flames. The Palestinian health ministry says 37-year-old Sameh Aqtash died after being shot in the stomach during an attack by settlers in Zaatara on Sunday night. Dozens more were wounded. One family had to be rescued by paramedics after becoming trapped in their house when settlers laid burning tyres outside their front door, blocking the route out. Israeli-American killed in West Bank amid unrest Several hundred metres away from the highway, an extended family tried to take refuge as their home came under attack. "My wife, my brother's wife, and our young children were in the house, they were screaming, and the children were crying, and they were crying out for protection from the settlers' oppression, and we could not reach them," said Oday al-Domadi, speaking to the BBC in the remains of his burned-out lounge. He rushed home from his work in Nablus after hearing that settlers were planning a march of "revenge" after the killing earlier of two Israeli settlers in the town. Hillel and Yagel Yaniv lived in the settlement of Har Bracha, which is 1.9km (1.2 miles) south of Nablus. "There were about 30 masked settlers carrying pistols who were destroying the house… The moment we entered the house, they discovered us, threw stones at us and broke my brother's shoulder. "I shouted at the soldiers to protect the children and prevent the settlers from frightening them, but the soldiers responded by shooting at me and shouting at me to stay at home," said Mr al-Domadi, who eventually managed to ensure his children were safely in another part of the building. "The worst thing is what the kids experienced - the terror and the panic they felt. Afterwards, they were trembling in fear and sheltering in my lap, begging me to stay beside them." The Israeli army has defended its handling of the violence but a military official said, "The wisdom of the deployment could be challenged." Israeli soldiers carry the coffin during the funeral of two Israeli brothers, Hillel and Yagel Yaniv Human rights groups have long blamed violence against Palestinian civilians on an atmosphere of impunity surrounding settler violence in the occupied West Bank, particularly in some of the most ideological settlements in the area around Hawara and Nablus. They say this has been now amplified with the powerful pro-settler, far-right component of Israel's new government. Israel's police routinely says it investigates such cases but campaigners say these are often a whitewash. Alongside waves of Israeli military search and arrest raids in Palestinian cities, and growing numbers of Palestinian armed attacks against Israelis, there is growing concern about a slide into uncontrollable violence. It increasingly feels like a tipping point is being reached, particularly amid increasing signs that the Palestinian Authority is unable to regain a grip on its limited security control of key cities, despite American-led attempts to help it do so. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-64757990

  7. As AMD's next-gen Zen 5 CPUs come close to launch, it seems like Linux 6.6 has started to receive new patches based on the upcoming "Family 1Ah" architecture. AMD's Next-Gen Zen 5 CPUs Land First Support Patches Within Linux 6.6 The newly emerged patches reveal that AMD has provided support for Error Detection and Correction (EDAC) along with "k10temp", which is utilized for monitoring CPU temperatures, for its upcoming Zen 5 CPUs. These are the initial set of patches that cover the basic needs of a processor, and we anticipate several patches to get uploaded in the future as well. AMD & Bethesda Unveil Starfield-Themed Radeon RX 7900 XTX & Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gorgeous GPU Design AMD-Zen-5-CPU-Patches-Linux-6.6.png Phoronix also highlights that the new driver changes were pending in a kernel TIP branch, and it is expected that more patches are in the pipeline, possibly emerging on the "Linux 6.6 merge window" which is slated at the end of August. Following are more details on the patches and their functionality: EDAC/amd64: Add support for AMD family 1Ah models 00h-1Fh and 40h-4Fh Add support for family 1Ah-based models 00h-1Fh and 40h-4Fh. hwmon: (k10temp) Add thermal support for AMD Family 1Ah-based models Add thermal info support for AMD Family 1Ah-based models. Support is provided on a per-socket granularity. x86/amd_nb: Add PCI IDs for AMD Family 1Ah-based models Add new PCI Device IDs required to support AMD's new Family 1Ah-based models 00h-1Fh, 20h, and 40h-4Fh. AMD already has Zen 5 CPUs running in its labs which is made evident by the numerous spottings of early samples within various databases such as the one here. With the immense po[CENSORED]rity of Team Red in Linux platforms, the company has been fairly quick in releasing next-gen support. This includes improvements being made with the open-source Radeon Vulkan drivers, along with several optimization fixes. With the lion's share of the platform, we expect AMD to deliver patches for upcoming launches early; hence make sure to keep following since they sometimes tend to reveal something interesting. link: https://wccftech.com/linux-6-6-receives-patches-for-amd-next-gen-zen-5-cpus/

  9. Baldur's Gate 3 may have only released on August 3, but it's already one of Steam's biggest games, clocking up a concurrent user record so high, it's already cemented itself in Steam's top ten most played games ever. The hugely-anticipated sequel – which has been decades in the making – has been breaking its own concurrent record over and over again all weekend (and – this is not an exaggeration – at least six times since I started writing this article). At the time of writing, Baldur Gate's 3's concurrent Steam peak sits at 809,012, putting it ninth on SteamDB's charts of the games with the highest ever concurrent user records and pushing Apex Legends out of the top ten and into eleventh place. Sponsored Links If you own a mouse, you will never turn off your computer again. Combat Siege That means that in just three days, Baldur's Gate 3 has had more concurrent players – that is, simultaneous players all logged on and actively in-game at the time the record was set – than games like Valheim, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Destiny 2. RECOMMENDED VIDEOS FOR YOU... More amazingly still, Baldur's Gate 3 is currently the second-most played game on Steam of the last 24 hours, boasting more concurrent players this weekend than even Dota 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds. Of all the games on Steam, only CS:GO has had more concurrent players in the last 24 hours. "I played one character for 50 hours on PC. This wasn’t enough to get through the game, and I'm still in the early to mid stages of Act 2, but it’s more than enough to get a sense of the sprawling scale and depth of the game here," our editor-in-chief, Jake, said of the highly-anticipated RPG, for which he awarded it a lofty five out of five stars. We'd say that Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the best RPGs ever, but if you're on the hunt for the next adventure with some companions, we've got a list of the best MMOs too. However, if you prefer to explore huge worlds on your own, make sure you check out our list of the best single-player games. link: https://www.techradar.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-is-already-one-of-steams-biggest-games-ever
  10. Roblox has announced a new recruitment center... inside Roblox itself. The in-game experience lets potential candidates explore what it might be like to work at the company without geographic barriers, as long as they have a strong internet connection. In an official blog post, the company expresses a desire to build a workforce that "embodies a broad range of skills, perspectives, and backgrounds." The center allows outreach to potential employees who could not be reached through in-person recruitment methods. The experience includes events, podcasts, and conversations with Roblox employees. It can also help those unfamiliar with Roblox itself get acquainted with the platform and its tools. The experience can also help candidates prepare for their interview. In the in-game library, candidates can find texts to help them prepare. Candidates can also learn more about the company's problem-solving assessments. They can take practice tests to see what they might experience during interviews. Eventually, candidates will even be able to interview directly inside the experience. Roblox is one of the biggest games, and social platforms, in the world. The platform has hosted virtual performances from Twenty One Pilots and Charli XCX. It has collaborated with various brands, including SpongeBob, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Chipotle. It has also faced controversy for its policies related to younger users and its game development tools. Two recent reports from YouTube channel People Make Games alleged that the company was exploiting child developers. Earlier this year, the company made changes to its ad policy, ensuring that users under 13 would not see advertisements. The platform currently has 65.5 million active users, but Roblox has ambitions for one billion. link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/want-to-work-at-roblox-your-interview-could-be-inside-the-game/1100-6516792/
  11. Whether singleplayer or multiplayer, you'll have the best time focusing on your party and ignoring the companions you don't have room for. It took me a few hours with Baldur's Gate 3 to fully come to a realization that is pretty dang obvious in hindsight—if you're playing in four-player co-op like I am, there's absolutely no room for more companions in your life. The first two hours of Baldur's Gate 3 are a flurry of meet-and-greets with other weirdos who got tadpoles shoved in their eyeballs, and pretty soon we'd stacked up companion quests with Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Astarion, Wyll, and Gale with interesting stories splintering off in all directions. But with a party full of custom characters we couldn't have any of our new friends tag along with us, so they just sat back at camp, and I kept running into quest objectives that I couldn't make any progress on without one of those companions tagging along. It felt wrong to ignore those quests—I mean, they're right there in my journal, begging to be completed! Like many RPG players, I have trouble leaving any quest unsolved, and chatting with my companions every time I came back to camp felt like a half-measure. So in an interview on Monday with Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke, I asked for advice on how best to interact with companions in a four-player game. "Personally, and this will be different for different people, I would keep them for a singleplayer playthrough or a co-op playthrough with just two players, where you take some companions with you," Vincke said. "A large part of the storytelling of these characters is when they're with you in the world." Vincke elaborated that if your companions are stuck at camp, any conversation you have with them will be based on a "hearsay" conversation system. In other words, they'll be able to react to what you tell them, but they won't really know what happened because they weren't there, so you'll be missing out on the reactions you'd get if the companions were in your party. You'll also miss out on unique interactions with the many NPCs in the world who already know your companions. "Your connection to these characters is going to be much shallower than if you had them with you," he said. "I would probably advise if you're playing in multiplayer, focus on your party—as you do in singleplayer, actually, just focus on your party and enjoy it and roleplay it to the full extent. You can have any number of companions in camp, but it's not going to be the same thing. It's going to be much stronger if you're doing it in singleplayer." EamJFXm6Q3XxPyjR5eXQq3-970-80.jpg.webp Vincke's advice sure makes sense, even if it goes against my instinct to leave no scrap of story untouched. But Baldur's Gate 3 is such a massive game, I'm realizing the surest way to have a bad time is to fret over doing and seeing every last thing. It's incredibly rare for a game to enable and reward truly roleplaying a character in the way this one does, and I'm going to have a much better time focusing on how my paladin fits into my co-op group if I don't worry too much about the folks back at camp who aren't adventuring with us. If you're also playing in multiplayer, Vincke had one other bit of advice: make sure you know what kind of group you have. Talk about what you want to get out of the game, even, and how much you care about the story. "There's typical types of groups that play multiplayer. If you have the type that will explain to each other and wait for each other, they'll get a really good sense of the story," he said. "If they go off in all four directions on the map and start shenanigans and don't tell anything to anybody, then it becomes hard." Vincke gave me an example from earlier in development where two devs were playing together. One really wanted to experience the story, while the other played as a "murder hobo" who, well, mostly just went around killing people. By the time the story-focused dev arrived in the Underdark, his companion had already killed off all the NPCs who could explain the significance of an important drow named Nere, who he kept running into oblique references to. "He never knew who this was," Vincke said. "He found these references and was like 'Who the [CENSORED] is Nere?' I said, 'What do you mean you don't know?' They were all dead! But that is the nature of the game. If that's how you play, that's how you play, and if you can still get to the end that's your experience." Before Baldur's Gate 3 released, I laughed at Vincke talking about multiple playthroughs and recommending against playing the game for the first time as an origin character. Most players don't even finish short games—who's got time to beat this 100-hour RPG twice!? Now that I'm 15 hours into it, I think the answer is: Me. I do. Because as much as I'm loving this co-op experience, I now know what a dramatically different experience is waiting for me when I play again solo. And Vincke was just being honest about what he'd learned from playing the game himself, not just developing it. "I've played it multiple times over, and keep on finding new adventures for myself to have. It's certainly rich enough, there's enough content, but certain content works better depending on how you play," he said. "I don't have any real preference [between singleplayer and multiplayer], I find fun in both kinds of play. But when we're playing in multiplayer it's more fooling around with the systems, 'can I do this?' and 'can I do that?' whereas in singleplayer it's more 'this is my story.'" link: https://www.pcgamer.com/if-youre-playing-baldurs-gate-3-multiplayer-larians-boss-has-advice-on-what-to-do-with-companions-ignore-them/
  12. Brazilian forward to sign two-year deal subject to medical PSG tightening belt to comply with financial fair play Neymar has agreed to leave Paris Saint-Germain for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal in a move worth up to £86m, bringing to an end his colourful six-year stay in the French capital. -Subject to a successful medical the Brazilian will sign a two-year deal with the Riyadh-based side and become the most high-profile player to have joined the Saudi Pro League during its summer of extravagant transfer spending. The move marks a shift in dynamic for PSG, who also allowed Lionel Messi to depart for Inter Miami at the end of last season. ac-neymar-al-hilal-wages-v2-graphic.jpg Neymar’s impending exit was clearly signposted last week when he was left out of Luis Enrique’s squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Lorient, which finished goalless. He is thought to have been open to staying in Paris if the manager’s plans had permitted, and a move elsewhere in Europe would have appealed, but ultimately the move to Saudi Arabia makes sense for all parties. Although PSG will make a heavy loss on the gigantic £200m fee they paid Barcelona for him in 2016, there is a feeling that the sum received from Al-Hilal for a player who turns 32 in February constitutes good business. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/aug/14/neymar-saudi-arabia-al-hilal-86m-psg

The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.67% at 13,384.01 The Fed minutes released on Wednesday showed that the central bank has likely not finished raising interest rates. “Most participants continued to see significant upside risks to inflation, which could require further tightening of monetary policy," the minutes said. Moments of panic were experienced in one of the bullfights at the San Marcos Fair in Aguascalientes when a goring pierced the lung of the right-handed Arturo Macías, which is why he is in intensive care, as reported on his official social networks. "He suffered a penetrating injury to the chest at the right subaxillary level in the posterior axillary line due to a bull's horn, right pneumothorax secondary to a right lung contusion," reads the medical report of the Monumental Bullring in Aguascalientes. The bullfighter was gored by his first bull over the weekend, and although he left the ring on his own foot to be examined, El Cejas, as he is also known, had to be taken to a hospital to undergo surgery due to a "wound to right subaxillary level of 8 centimeters in length and three centimeters in width that involves three paths, the first towards the anterior region dissecting pectoral muscles greater and less than 10 cm in length; the second trajectory towards the posterior region with a dissection of the dorsal muscle of 8 cm; and the third direct towards the thoracic cavity at the level of the 2nd and 3rd costal arches causing pleural rupture and laceration of the anterior segment of the right upper lobe”. https://www.milenio.com/deportes/mas-aficion/torero-arturo-macias-recibe-una-grave-cornada-que-le-perforo-el-pulmon
  15. While universities in the United States might be the first to include courses and units on popstar Taylor Swift’s legendary lyrics, Europe is swiftly catching up with the University of Ghent in Belgium launching its own Taylor Swift-inspired literature course. The course titled “Literature: Taylor’s Version” — a reference to the singer’s re-recorded album titles — will be taught by British professor Elly McCausland. Due to start in the fall, it will be added to the master’s degree in language and literature. McCausland, who is also the author of the blog “Swifterature”, which compares the popstar’s themes, imagery and use of language to prolific writers like Sylvia Plath, Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare, told The Guardian that she has never received so many emails from excited students asking if they can take the course. “And actually, non-students as well, people who are not part of the university and who want to participate in some way,” she said. The professor pitched the idea of a Swift-centered elective — first of its kind in Europe — after the singer’s lyrics drew a parallel with the English literature she had long studied. “Highly prolific and autobiographical in her songwriting, Swift makes frequent allusions to canonical literary texts in her music,” the class syllabus explains. “Using Swift’s work as a springboard, we will explore, among other topics, literary feminism, ecocriticism, fan studies, and tropes such as the anti-hero. Swift’s enduring po[CENSORED]rity stems, at least in part, from the heavily intertextual aspect of her work, and this course will dig deeper to explore its literary roots. ” Freedom Sale In Swift’s song The Great War McCausland saw a resemblance to how Plath spoke about war and battle to convey her pain in the poem Daddy, while the singer’s Mad Woman and the story it tells about patriarchy and mental health saw echoes of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s short story The Yellow Wallpaper. “What I want to do is show students that although these texts might seem inaccessible, they can be accessible if we look at them from a slightly different angle,” McCausland told the outlet. “So, Shakespeare, in some way, is actually addressing a lot of the same questions as Taylor Swift is today, which seems crazy. But he is.” But Swift isn’t the first pop star to attract the attention of academia. Before this, Beyoncé’s visual album “Lemonade” and its relationship to Black feminism was unpacked by the University of Texas in an English Literature course. The University of Copenhagen too began offering “Beyoncé, Gender and Race”. However, McCausland’s course has not been received well by everyone, with critics calling it frivolous and silly. But, in general, the atmosphere has been cordial with many people enthusiastic about it. “There’s been only a couple of outright critical voices, and that only really reaffirms what I’m trying to do — even the hate mail I find quite wonderful, to be honest! I mean, don’t print that quote as in ‘send more hate mail’ please,” she told CNN. https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/life-style/taylor-swift-inspired-literature-course-belgian-university-8894922/

Orcas that attacked a sailboat in the Strait of Gibraltar ripped its two rudders off in less than 15 minutes then played with the debris, dramatic footage of the encounter shows. One of the orcas also came back for more as the crew headed inshore, chasing the boat all the way to the marina in Sotogrande, Spain, where it tore off what was left of the rudders. "They went directly for the rudders," Dan Kriz, a skipper who was aboard the catamaran and delivering it for the Florida-based company Catamaran Guru, told Live Science in an email. "The whole thing took about 10 to 15 minutes." The catamaran was passing through the strait on its way to the Canary Islands on April 15 when a pod of four or five orcas, at least three of them juveniles, surfaced and launched themselves at the boat's two rudders. Kriz said he saw two of the juveniles make a beeline for the rudders, while an adult orca was "cruising around." Related: In rare attack, 30 orcas 'badly wounded' 2 adult gray whales in California In a video of the encounter, one of the juveniles glides under the stern then head-buts the boat's underside while thrashing in the water. Five seconds later, the orca appears again holding a large piece of fiberglass in itsmouth, which it holds up to the surface while another orca swims under the stern. The assault was targeted and efficient, but the orcas stuck around and "played with pieces of fiberglass after they took them off," Kriz said. But that was not the end of the encounter. "When we were motoring to the marina, we saw an adult orca chasing us," Kriz said. The crew immediately turned the engine off upon theorca's return. "We stopped and she took what was left of the rudders," Kriz said. "Then they let us go." Pictures of the rudders after the encounter show the metal scaffold bent and stripped of all the fiberglass. This isn't the first time orcas have followed a boat inshore. An encounter with orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar on May 24 ended with the pod following a yacht all the way to port. The April 15 encounter is the second time Kriz has been confronted by orcas in the Strait of Gibraltar. Three years ago, when the attacks first started, his crew was one of the first to experience the Iberian orcas' unusual behavior, when a pod of eight circled and nudged the yacht for over an hour. Since then, researchers have recorded over 500 cases of orcas bumping against boats, three of them resulting in boats sinking. Scientists think a female called White Gladis triggered the behavior after she was traumatized by a collision with a boat or illegal entrapment. link: https://www.livescience.com/animals/orcas/orcas-attack-boat-with-ruthless-efficiency-tearing-off-rudders-in-just-15-minutes
