The untimely death of Ram Vilas Paswan, the Dalit leader from Bihar in 2020 left a void in Indian politics and in the life of his son Chirag Paswan who was left to carry forward the legacy of his father, a leader with a national appeal. However, the absence of his father proved harmful for Chirag whose political career was brought to a halt on Monday as was his predicament in Bollywood many years earlier. The sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jamui who called himself PM Modi’s ‘Hanuman’ and donated Rs 1.11 lakh for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was knocked out in a family coup. Notably, history has been witness to many such political family feuds which led to ousting of future leaders. Chirag Paswan Ousted On Monday, five of the six Lok Janshakti Party MPs in Lok Sabha rebelled against Chirag and elected Pashupati Kumar Paras, the youngest brother of the former’s father, in his place, causing a big churn in Bihar politics. A day later, Chirag was sacked from the post of the party’s national president, too. Interestingly, Chirag was outmaneuvered within months of taking over the mantle by his kin. One of the five-party leaders to revolt against Chirag is his own cousin Prince Raj, the MP from Samastipur. Raj is the son of Ram Chandra Paswan, the former Lok Sabha MP who died in 2019. Naidu Seizes Power from NTR A seasoned actor NT Rama Rao also had to face the same predicament as Chirag. Entering politics at 60, NTR launched his Telugu Desam Party while his son-in-law, N Chandrababu Naidu was drafted to build the TDP organization. NTR reigned as chief minister of Andhra for as good as 13 years when in 1995 his son-in-law and trusted lieutenant Naidu rebelled against him. Justifying his coup, Naidu said he had been forced to act against his father-in-law because of NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvathi’s growing influence over party affairs and on the state government. Overnight, NTR was brought on the streets with his downfall being as dramatic as his spectacular rise.

'Opportunist' Mukul Roy's exit will make no difference, says BJP even as concern rise over lobby politics Several BJP leaders downplayed the impact of Mukul Roy's return to TMC, with Dilip Ghosh saying Roy himself wasn't sure whether the BJP 'gained anything' The BJP leadership in West Bengal downplayed senior leader Mukul Roy's exit from the party and his return to the Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, even as some raised concerns over "lobby politics" within the party. Speaking to reporters, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said that he was not sure if the BJP would lose anything from Roy's decision, given that he was "unsure whether we gained anything" from his entry three-and-half years back. "Right now, we are bothered about more serious issues as the cycle of violence goes on unabated in the state. We are bothered about the safety of our workers, who are being targeted by TMC activists," Ghosh added. BJP state unit vice president Joyprakash Majumder, on his part, extended his best wishes to Roy and said that he should immediately quit all saffron party posts. "Mukul babu is a veteran leader, he is a known face in Bengal politics. We wish him the best in his new innings but shouldn't he forthwith quit from the primary membership and all other posts of the BJP? Should he not resign as the MLA as he had won a seat on the Lotus (BJP) symbol," Majumder said. Roy, who held the post of national vice president in the saffron camp, along with son Shubranshu, was welcomed back to the TMC by party supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other senior leaders. He had joined the BJP back in 2017. Lobby politics in Bengal adversely affecting BJP Hours before Roy made his re-entry or ghar wapsi into the Trinamool Congress, former MP Anupam Hazra claimed that "lobby politics at play is adversely affecting the party". Taking to Twitter, Hazra said that it was high time that the state unit of the BJP put an end to the practice and utilise leaders according to their merit. The former MP, who had switched over from the TMC to the BJP in 2018, however, asserted that he will continue to be a part of the saffron camp under all circumstances. "Too much importance has been accorded to one or two leaders while ignoring and humiliating the rest. That has led to the present sad situation. There is also no trace of the royal passengers who had taken a chartered flight," the academic-turned politician, who had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2019, said. Hazra was possibly referring to TMC turncoats Baishali Dalmiya, Rajib Banerjee and Prabir Ghosal, who had taken a chartered flight to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's residence in Delhi earlier this year. He further said, "Please don't give me the tag of a disgruntled leader for this post. I am with the BJP and will remain in the BJP. But the dirty lobby politics should come to an end. This is all I want." A section of state BJP leaders are of the view that Roy and other senior leaders, including Sabyasachi Dutta, were not accorded due importance by the saffron party top brass during the Assembly elections, and only a handful of leaders, such as Suvendu Adhikari and actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty were given all responsibilities. Hazra hinted that he too was not made a part of important discussions at the party. "Hoping to get an invite to state unit meetings of the BJP as per protocol," he said.

Skincare aficionados need not be told about the multiple benefits of hyaluronic acid (HA). Considered to be one of the best ingredients, many people swear by it and use it as part of their skincare routines. But, not one size fits all when it comes to skincare. So despite the raving reviews — is hyaluronic meant for you? “It’s one of the most hydrating ingredients, but if misused, hyaluronic acid can actually dry out your skin,” said Dr Jushya Sarin, a dermatologist on Instagram recently. So here is what you need to know if you are planning to incorporate hyaluronic acid into your routine. What is hyaluronic acid? According to Dr Sarin, hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs “naturally in the skin and helps bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin so that it appears dewy, plumper, and hydrated’. However, it continues to deplete with age. HA can be found in sheet masks, serums and moisturisers. Explaining the reason behind the buzz for HA, a humectant that attracts water to the skin, she said, “hyaluronic acid is great for all skin types. In general, it is non-irritating and does not trigger rosacea, acne, or skin reactions. There is however a small chance of adverse effects.” She added that “the perception of hyaluronic acid as a wonder molecule for dryness and wrinkles is vastly overstated — and when used incorrectly, it can backfire.”

Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government never understood Covid-19, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the Centre was responsible for India’s current crisis and a third wave of infections was highly likely. Speaking to media persons in a live interaction, Gandhi said the “evolving” virus was strengthening by the day, and the central government’s ignorance of its nature was giving the virus space to grow and spread. Gandhi also said the “permanent” solution to fight the virus was vaccination, and the reason behind India’s poor Covid performance was because the Centre had “no vaccination strategy”. “The problem is that there is no vaccination strategy. The Prime Minister doesn’t think strategically. He is an event manager, he thinks one event at a time,” Gandhi said. If the current pace of vaccination continues, Gandhi said, India will face not only a third wave, but multiple waves of the virus. Targeting the Centre, Gandhi said, “You’re creating a liability for the whole planet. Why? Because you are allowing 97 per cent of the po[CENSORED]tion to be attacked by the virus as only 3 per cent are vaccinated.” He reiterated that the government had become overconfident and focused on “vaccine diplomacy” and exporting vital Covid jabs to the rest of the world, instead of anticipating a future crisis and need at home. On India’s Covid-19 death figures, Gandhi asked the government to tell the truth as the country’s current fatality rate according to him was a lie. “Actual death numbers might be disturbing but we must stick to telling the truth,” he said. India recorded 1.86 lakh new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the lowest spike in daily infections in the last 44 days. The number of active cases further declined to 23.43 lakh while over 2.48 crore people have recovered from the virus till now. With 3,660 new fatalities, the death toll is now over 3.18 lakh.
