  1. The US has issued a sanctions waiver for banks to transfer $6bn (£4.8bn) of frozen Iranian funds from South Korea to Qatar, paving the way for the release of five Americans held by Iran. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Congress that the money would provide "limited benefit" to Iran as it could only be used for humanitarian trade. He also confirmed that five Iranians detained in the US would be freed as part of the prisoner exchange deal. Republicans condemned the transfer. One senator accused President Joe Biden of paying a "ransom to the world's worst state sponsor of terrorism". Last month, US officials said four American-Iranian dual nationals had been taken out of Evin prison in Tehran and moved to house arrest. Three of the prisoners were named by a lawyer as Siamak Namazi, Emad Shargi and Morad Tahbaz, who also has British citizenship. The fourth was not identified, nor was the fifth, who was already under house arrest. Who are the dual nationals jailed in Iran? Tens of billions of dollars owed to Iran for oil and other exports are believed to have been frozen in bank accounts across the world since 2018, when then-President Donald Trump abandoned an international nuclear deal with Iran and reinstated US sanctions. The waiver issued by the US means that certain banks in Europe, Asia and the Middle East will not face punishment for moving the $6bn held in South Korea to Qatar's central bank. "Allowing these funds to be transferred from restricted Iranian accounts held in the [Republic of Korea] to accounts in Qatar for humanitarian trade is necessary to facilitate the release of these US citizens," Mr Blinken said in a letter to Congress on Monday. Last month, he stressed that Qatar had agreed to ensure the funds were used by Iran "strictly for humanitarian purposes and in a strictly controlled way". He also said Iran would not have direct access to the funds and there would be "significant oversight" from the US. Despite such assurances, the Republican chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee criticised the Biden administration for moving forward with what he called "its $6bn hostage deal". "The Americans held by Iran are innocent hostages who must be released immediately and unconditionally," Rep Michael McCaul said in a statement. "However, I remain deeply concerned that the administration's decision to waive sanctions to facilitate the transfer of $6 billion in funds for Iran, the world's top state sponsor of terrorism, creates a direct incentive for America's adversaries to conduct future hostage-taking." White House spokeswoman Adrienne Watson insisted that the waiver was only a "procedural step" in what remained "a sensitive and ongoing process". Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani meanwhile expressed optimism that the prisoner swap would take place "soon". link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-66784817

  3. A fresh football season in eFootball 2024 arrived on mobile devices on the 7th of September. Fortunately, this time around, we didn’t experience any extensions of maintenance, which certainly sweetened the update. With each new season, the thrill of assembling the ultimate squad reaches new heights, and this season is no exception. However, as the dust settles on the new update, it’s apparent that not all players are in agreement about whether the gameplay has improved. Many find themselves disappointed as the game hasn’t introduced a significant array of new features. So, in this article, we’ll dive into a comprehensive review of the latest iteration of eFootball 2024, covering the pros and cons of the football title from KONAMI. Improved gameplay mechanics is a big positive When reflecting on eFootball 2023, it’s clear that the game had its fair share of gameplay problems. Throughout the season, many players found themselves grappling with various issues in the gameplay department. With the exception of a few fleeting moments of improvement, consistency remained elusive. However, it appears that this scenario has taken a turn for the better in eFootball 2024. The gameplay is now more balanced, with the faster speed of play affecting the decision-making in a positive way. The increased pace of play has positively impacted decision-making. Players exhibit greater responsiveness, and surprisingly, the removal of player playstyles hasn’t had a detrimental effect on player movement. They feel like real players, and in most cases, you will find them to be enjoyable to control. Coming to the passing and shooting, as mentioned before, the pace of gameplay being increased also has an effect on this. The ball now exhibits improved movement, with passes carrying an impressive weight to them. Shooting, in particular, has become a more realistic experience, with the ball’s trajectory and the subsequent movement of the net adding to the overall authenticity of the game. link : https://gamingonphone.com/reviews/efootball-2024-review-a-fresh-apple-in-an-old-basket/
  4. Starfield is Bethesda's first new IP in over two decades. It's been a long wait for the game, and it's not without its flaws, as we've outlined in our Starfield review. From a rather "tame and sterile" outlook on humanity's spacefaring future to inventory management that's "as cumbersome as ever," there are certainly facets that can be improved. That's where Starfield mods could come in. Although it's not launching with it, official Starfield mod support is on the way and will be available at some point after launch. Modders aren't waiting for that--we've already seen DLSS added, among other things--and the history of Bethesda games like Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 4 suggests an abundance of mods will eventually be released. Naturally, I also hope to see achievement unlockers, which allow players to earn achievements even with the use of mods and console commands. Mods have the opportunity to not just add interesting new content, but also improve on those aforementioned flaws. Below, we've outlined a number of ways in which mods could eventually improve Starfield. link : https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/how-starfield-could-become-a-much-better-game-through-mods/2900-4849/
  5. SpaceX has officially received the list of actions that it needs to take to ensure that the Starship rocket complies with FAA regulations. SpaceX's April Starship test launch was quite a spectacle. While it saw the world's biggest rocket successfully soar to the sky after clearing the pad, the remainder of the flight provided metal-fueled fireworks that saw the rocket flip multiple times in mid-air before exploding. The FAA released today's press release explaining the work it has been doing with SpaceX after the April test attempt. Simultaneously, SpaceX also released a press release clearing up some uncertainties about a couple of failures during the April launch. SpaceX Confirms Flight Termination System Delay, Provides Reasons For Starship Test Flight Malfunction Apart from the mid-air gymnastics, which were quite a sight on their own, the April test also saw multiple fires in Starship's engine bay. Several of the rocket's engines also fizzled out during the flight. SpaceX's latest statement shares that the engine problems ultimately led to an unsuccessful second-stage separation and orbital test flight. According to SpaceX, propellant leaks at the rocket's tail (aft) end led to multiple fires inside it. These affected the primary Starship computer, which eventually failed. This failure was the primary reason behind the rocket's explosion since it made SpaceX unable to communicate with the engines, leaving SpaceX unable to communicate with the 394-foot-tall rocket. Interestingly, SpaceX also mentions that it upgraded the rocket's thrust vector control (TVC) system. This system is responsible for moving the engines, allowing SapceX to control the rocket. SpaceX's details about the upgrade start out by 'clarifying' that the upgrade is "unrelated to any issues observed during the first flight test," as it explains that the new TVC system uses fully electric motors with fewer points of failure and greater energy efficiency.` lin: https://wccftech.com/spacex-confirms-engine-fires-lead-to-massive-rocket-explosion-in-april/

  8. State election officers have a near-unified message about the possibility of challenges to Donald Trump’s eligibility for the ballot in 2024: We want nothing to do with this. “I don’t think it’s the role of the secretary of state to make a judicial determination,” Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, a Republican, told NBC News. “My job is to create the process and the environment in the state of Missouri where candidates can run and the voters of the state of Missouri have the accessibility, the elections have security and credibility, so that the people of the state can make a decision.” At issue is a rarely used provision of the U.S. Constitution — Section 3 of the 14th Amendment — which bars any person who took an “oath” to uphold the Constitution from holding public office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the nation. Some critics of the former president have said that Trump should be disqualified from appearing on the presidential ballot because of this provision. Secretaries of state in New Hampshire, Arizona, Michigan and Colorado have faced, or are preparing to face, legal challenges to Trump’s eligibility as they prepare state ballots for the upcoming Republican presidential primaries. link : https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/state-election-chiefs-look-courts-deal-trump-ballot-challenges-rcna104315
  9. In an automotive world that’s rapidly evolving towards sustainability and innovation, Volvo Cars stand tall as a prime example of growth and adaptability. The latest sales report from the renowned car manufacturer has sent ripples of excitement through the industry. With global sales of 54,165 cars in July, Volvo Cars has demonstrated a remarkable 21% increase compared to the same period last year, marking the eleventh consecutive month of impressive year-over-year growth. The numbers don’t lie, and they tell a story of resilience and progress. Over the course of the first seven months of 2023, Volvo Cars achieved a significant milestone, selling a staggering 395,856 cars on a global scale. This remarkable achievement showcases an 18% surge in sales when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. One of the most notable facets of this triumph is Volvo Cars’ Recharge line-up. This distinctive range of chargeable models, all equipped with fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains, has witnessed an almost twofold increase in sales as compared to July of the preceding year. In fact, Recharge models contributed to an impressive 35% of Volvo’s total global car sales during the month. What’s even more striking is that fully electric cars from Volvo’s portfolio represented a solid 10% of the total sales. Europe, a region that’s deeply invested in the future of sustainable mobility, has stood as a beacon of success for Volvo Cars. In July alone, the brand’s sales soared to 20,286 cars in Europe, marking an astonishing 28% jump from the previous year’s figures. A key driver of this European success story is the Recharge line-up, which accounted for an impressive 56% of all Volvo car sales in the region. Furthermore, the share of fully electric cars within this thriving market stood proudly at 13%. The surge in sales isn’t just a testament to the car’s performance and design; it’s a reflection of Volvo’s unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability. As the world ushers in a new era of automotive excellence, Volvo Cars has embraced the challenge by introducing a range of electrified vehicles that are capturing the attention and admiration of consumers worldwide. In conclusion, the recent sales data from Volvo Cars resonates with a powerful message: progress and sustainability can indeed go hand in hand. With a remarkable 21% increase in global sales in July, Volvo Cars showcase its ability to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing landscape. The Recharge line-up’s impressive performance emphasizes Volvo’s dedication to offering eco-friendly options that don’t compromise on power and performance. As Volvo Cars continues to chart its course toward a greener future, the automotive world can only wait with bated breath to see what remarkable feats lie ahead. Volvo Cars’ sales in the US increased by 57 percent to 10,785 cars in July. The number of Recharge cars grew by 226 percent compared to last year and of all cars sold in Volvo Cars’ second biggest market, 29 percent was a Recharge model. Sales in China reached 14,182 cars, a decrease of 8 percent compared to the same month last year. The share of Recharge models accounted for 8 percent of the total sales in China. link : https://www.automotoworld.info/driving-forward-volvo-cars-accelerates-with-impressive-21-sales-surge-in-july/
  10. With around 17,000 places to eat in Hong Kong, you're never far from a steaming bowl of something delicious. The city's culinary landscape features world-class Michelin-starred tasting menus and fine dining, but the majority of restaurants are humble, local spots where the prices are low and the proudly Cantonese dishes are comforting. The combination of cramped home kitchens and expensive groceries means that for many, dining out is more cost-efficient than cooking at home. Consequently, brightly lit tea houses and noodle shops, busy takeaway stands and full-service restaurants all compete for an annual dining market where diners spend the equivalent of almost £9.2bn. If you ask almost anyone in the city, they'll invariably have their own suggestion of where to find the best version of a particular dish. We're confident, however, that you can't go wrong at these eight tried-and-tested spots serving beloved Cantonese classics, from bamboo steamers filled with dumplings to glistening roast meats on rice. link : https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20230908-hong-kong-must-eats-iconic-cantonese-dishes-and-where-to-try-them
  11. Around 75 crocodiles made a break for it when a lake in Maoming, Guangdong province overflowed. While some were recaptured, local authorities shot or electrocuted others "for safety reasons". Chinese state media report that eight reptiles have been rounded-up so far, leaving dozens at large. Villagers close by have been told to stay at home. Typhoon Haikui has been tearing across south Asia for more than a week, affecting China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. Seven people have been killed and three others are missing in southern China following the typhoon - now downgraded to a tropical storm - which has caused landslides and flooding. Dozens injured after Typhoon Haikui rips across Taiwan Sixty-nine adults and six juvenile crocodiles escaped following the floods, according to Maoming's Emergency Management Bureau. No casualties have been reported but officials admitted some of the reptiles are still in deep water. Emergency services have been using sonar equipment to find them. "It is currently under control, but the number of crocodiles that escaped is a bit high," a staff member at the district's emergency bureau told Dazhong Daily, a state-run newspaper. Most of the recaptured crocodiles have been shot to death, one firefighter told Chinese media. They are said to be Siamese crocodiles, the Washington Post reports. These are freshwater reptiles that can grow to around 3m or nearly 10ft long, according to Crocodiles of the World, a UK zoo. The average weight of the adult crocodiles that have been captured is about 75kg, and they measure more than 2m in length, the firefighter said. Maoming in Guangdong province is home to a number of crocodile farms. They are bred for their skin as well as for meat. link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-66784618
  12. It's the oldest fixture in international football and the latest meeting of Scotland and England throws up all sorts of intrigue 150 years on from their first encounter. While the gulf between the sides has varied over their long and entwined history, both nations meet at Hampden Park for this heritage match for a contest that could be hard to call. The last meeting of the pair ended in a 0-0 draw at Wembley in Euro 2020 at the start of England's journey all the way to the final, and Gareth Southgate's side look well on course for returning to the tournament next year despite being held by Ukraine on Saturday. For Steve Clarke's Scotland, five wins from five games has them within touching distance of a second European Championships in a row, with many fans eager to see if they can claim their first win over the Auld Enemy this century. Southgate 'not too harsh' on players after draw 'Scots trying to close the gap' Scotland manager Clarke says Tuesday's friendly against England will be the perfect barometer of the progress his team has made. Scotland are on the brink of reaching Euro 2024 after winning all five qualifiers so far and have risen 20 places to 30th in the world ranking under Clarke. "In my lifetime, England have moved a bit in front [of Scotland]," he said. "We are trying to close the gap on them and we'll find out on Tuesday how much we've closed that gap." The Scotland boss expects "a competitive friendly, if you can have such a thing" at Hampden Park, not least because some players from the same club will be facing each other on the international stage. He believes the run of matches that will mean Scotland take on England, followed by Spain in an away qualifier, and then a friendly against France in October, will help accelerate the development of his players. Scotland need just two points from their final three qualifiers to guarantee an appearance at back-to-back Euros, although their place in next summer's finals could also be secured on Tuesday if Norway and Georgia draw in Oslo. link: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66714087
  13. n the village of Ouirgane in the Atlas Mountains, residents gather on piles of debris around the home of a mother and daughter buried underneath. Like many mountain communities, Ouirgane suffered major losses in the earthquake that struck Morocco on Friday night. Buildings have been destroyed and most residents are now either sleeping in tents or have left. Police and rescue workers tell us more than 30 people died here. The cemetery is dotted with new graves covered in branches. For now, everyone is focused on the two missing women: Fatima and Hajar. They lived on the ground floor of a three-storey building in the centre of the village. It now tilts to one side and is surrounded by piles of rubble, and small traces of lives now destroyed: a teapot, a child's Disney rucksack, a floral scarf. Crowds gather around the building and pray for good news, as rescue workers use a sniffer dog to search for signs of life. Residents tell us they will not leave until Fatima and Hajar are found, dead or alive. "In our culture, we eat from the same plate. We share food and we share plates. We're a family," one man says, as a crowd around him nod in agreement. "They're our sisters," says another. Among the crowd is Fatima's sister-in-law Khadija, who lived in the top two floors of the building. She was in Marrakesh when the earthquake struck. She tells us that Fatima's husband was pulled from the debris but later died, while her young son is in hospital after spending hours trapped in the rubble. She says Fatima and Hajar, 40 and 17, had the "same nature", describing them as "peaceful" people. "Fatima never argued with anyone, or had problems with anyone," she tells me. "Hajar would keep to herself. She was shy. She was studying and was among the top students." But hopes of finding them alive are slim, and fade throughout the day. In the late afternoon, a body is found. Rescue workers move slowly and carefully as they take the body out of the rubble and onto an orange stretcher, covering it with blankets. It is Hajar, they say. They lift the stretcher and carry it through the streets towards a clearing in front of the local cemetery. The crowds follow solemnly behind. After the body is washed, the stretcher is placed on the ground, and the men file in rows behind it. And then they pray. After the burial, the crowds file back to the building, waiting for news on Fatima. No one we speak to now has any hope of finding her alive, but they say it is important that her body is recovered. Morocco earthquake movement mapped from space Why Morocco is wary of earthquake help from abroad 'We need help from whoever will give it' "Everyone underground here has been brought out - alive or dead. Fatima is the only one left," one man says. "I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't drink until we take Fatima from underground." "The whole village needs to get her body out. It needs to happen today, not tomorrow," another man says as he walks back from the cemetery. Fatima's neighbour Said echoes this. "We can't do anything until we get her body out. Please God, let it be today." Among the crowds is rescue worker Mohamed Khoutari, who is taking a short break after days of searching through the rubble. "When we started we thought maybe they would be alive but with time we have realised it's not possible," he tells me. "There are no signs of life - no movement, no sound." But he says the workers must put the same effort into retrieving bodies as finding survivors. "I cannot move from here until we find Fatima," he says. As night falls, blankets are passed up to the search teams, and in low murmurs among the crowd, word spreads that Fatima's body has been found. She is moved onto a stretcher as the Muslim call to prayer rings out through the mountains. Khadija sobs, and is supported by family members. Residents again follow the stretcher through the streets towards the cemetery. When the burial is over, they return to makeshift tents, and those who have travelled from outside to help get in their cars and drive away. The streets fall quiet. But questions linger over how Ouirgane and other stricken communities can move forward. "I never imagined that I would see my neighbours pulled from the ground like this," Said says. "The problem now is the future of this region. What will the future of our village and the people here be?" link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-66785729

  15. Starfield has now surpassed the Steam concurrency peak of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which registered 287K concurrent users when it launched twelve years ago, entering Steam's all-time Top 30. It is not the highest concurrency peak of a Bethesda Game Studios title on Steam; Fallout 4 reached a peak of 472K users when it launched eight years ago. However, it was a given that a meaningful portion of players would opt to access the game via the Microsoft Store and the Game Pass subscription service, as per Microsoft's policy. We'll probably never know exactly how many full-price units have been sold since Microsoft stopped disclosing those a long time ago. Still, as announced on Thursday by Bethesda, the sci-fi roleplaying game is already the studio's biggest launch with over six million players across all platforms. Bethesda also plans to keep gamers glued to Starfield for a long time between official DLCs (Shattered Space being the first story expansion), free updates, and mods. On that note, in an interview published a couple of days ago by Japanese website Famitsu, Game Director Todd Howard revealed that the official Starfield modding tools will be released sometime in 2024. Here's the relevant quote (translated through Google): With mods, you will be able to do almost anything, just like in previous works. Mod support will be available next year, but we love it too, so we'll do it in a big way. This isn't surprising, either, as there is usually around three months of waiting from a Bethesda Game Studios launch and the public modding tools release. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched on November 11, 2011, and the mod tools were shared with the community on February 7, 2012, alongside the High Resolution Texture Pack. It took a little longer for Fallout 4, which launched on November 10, 2015 and received its own modding tools in PC Open Beta on April 26, 2016. As such, it is conceivable that the Starfield modding tools may be available in January or February at the latest. The absence of Bethesda's toolkit hasn't stopped the huge modding community from creating all sorts of great mods that enhance the visuals, performance, gameplay, and quality of life. Just yesterday, renowned texture modder Halk Hogan announced the upcoming release of Starfield HD Reworked Project to improve texture quality without damaging the performance. link : https://wccftech.com/starfield-surpasses-skyrims-steam-concurrency-peak-mod-tools-coming-in-2024/

The Florida Supreme Court was confronted Friday with whether to overrule broad abortion rights protections provided for decades under the state constitution and instead uphold a law signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that bans the procedure in most cases after 15 weeks of pregnancy. If the 15-week ban remains on the books, an even stricter six-week ban passed by the Republican-led Legislature this year and signed by DeSantis would automatically take effect about a month after the court renders a decision. The seven justices — including five conservatives appointed by DeSantis, a GOP candidate for president — heard oral arguments in Tallahassee in the lawsuit brought by Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and others. They claim the Florida Constitution’s unique privacy clause for more than 40 years has explicitly protected a right to abortion in the state and should remain in force. link : https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/florida-abortion-rights-stake-state-supreme-court-takes-challenge-gop-rcna104119
  19. We all love to see unreleased, camouflaged cars out in the wild. There’s something tantalizing about them — you can make out the general shape of Car, but all those little details are hidden away from your prying eyes. The imagination runs wild, trying to conjure images of what might be beneath that dazzling paint. Of course, companies have capitalized on this. Modern “camouflage” is branded, meant to tell viewers exactly what car lies under the disguise — even if we can’t quite make out how the vehicle looks. So it’s only natural that an automaker would try to take this one step further: Selling production cars decked out in camouflage. Audi, with its RS e-tron GT “project_513/2,” is doing just that. The name refers to the RS e-tron GT’s original, internal development code. The number “ defines the product’s segment, generation, and body style,” according to Audi, which I presume is why the fraction hasn’t been reduced to a proper project_256.5. The name pops up in the infotainment screen, on the windows, and even embossed into the leather interior. The project_513/2 also gets a unique set of wheels to complement the black-and-gray livery, but the rest of the non-cosmetic options are pulled from the car’s parts bin: Ceramic brakes, rear-wheel steering, carbon accents, and front seats that are both ventilated and massaging. If you’re aiming to be one of the 75 lucky buyers of the project_513/2, double-check your bank balance before you start writing checks. The car will retail for $179,900, before fees for destination, paint, and your usual tax and title. Though, Audi knows the current market — the company outright states that “Dealer sets actual price.” Though, if you’re spending $180,000 on an Audi, do you really care about a few grand in markups? link : https://www.automotoworld.info/audi-will-sell-you-a-camouflaged-rs-e-tron-gt/
  20. This year, Sally Ferns Barnes will take just 225 wild Atlantic salmon into her tiny smokery in West Cork, Ireland. Last year it was 370. She is the last person in Ireland to exclusively smoke wild fish. The salmon will be fished from the Blackwater River by Mikey Walsh and Eamon Uniacke, who continue a tradition laid down by generations of their families. Walsh is a fifth-generation salmon fisherman, but low quota means less income, so he also drives the local school bus and tends a farm. Uniacke rents out bouncy castles and has a coach hire business. Barnes smoked her first fish in 1979: mackerel, over an old tea chest with wood chippings and a damp sackcloth. Her then-husband, Colin, was a fisherman; he'd bring home mackerel, crayfish, lobster, crab and salmon. Some of the catch would feed them and their two children; whatever remained, Barnes preserved to sell or barter with neighbours in exchange for potatoes and seasonal gluts. Life in Ireland's coastal villages was hard, and these communities sustained each other by sharing food. The last year Colin fished for salmon at sea, in 1979, he didn't get paid. His buyer, after negotiating a price for the salmon, took the entire catch, prepared, smoked and sold the lot, and then drank every penny away. After paying for crew and provisions, Barnes and Colin were left hopelessly in debt. The buyer eventually handed over a kiln in partial restitution for the money owed, which Barnes used to teach herself how to cold-smoke salmon. Cold smoking is a delicate method of preserving fish. Unlike hot smoking, which cooks the fish and results in a product with a short shelf life, cold smoking is more akin to dehydration, extending shelf life for months. Wood is set to smoke at a low temperature away from a chamber where salt-cured fish is hung. Smoke travels along a pipe into the chamber, gently enveloping the wild fish in a preserving vapour of smoke, forcing out moisture and preserving flavour. Cold-smoking fish is a labour-intensive process, from the preparation of the fillets to salt curing and smoking. It results in a food of high skill, high regard and high value, and is an ideal income generator for fisher-families during leaner winter months when harsh weather frequently rolls in off the Atlantic Ocean forcing small fishing boats to tie up and wait it out. link : https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20220629-the-last-of-irelands-rare-wild-salmon
  21. In August, when Zoom ordered its workers back to the office, shock rippled across the internet. The video conference platform, which has now become nearly synonymous with remote work, seemed to be flying in the face of the very thing they represented. The company now requires employees living within 50mi (80.5km) to work from the office at least twice a week. Zoom is just one of the latest businesses to issue an office return ultimatum. Amazon sent a warning email to employees they believed were disobeying its three-days-in-the-office rule. Google released a memo giving managers permission to factor unexcused absences from the office into performance reviews. Advertising network Publicis bluntly told US workers that failure to come into the office three times a week could impact salary increases, bonuses and promotion opportunities. Many workers who've gotten used to lenient remote work policies are unhappy amid increasing calls for autumn returns. Some companies are digging in their heels, threatening to punish workers who stay at home. Others, however, are taking less hard line approaches, and many say these gentler tactics are working. Managers are taking note. Listening to workers Bosses are, by now, no stranger to employee pushback on office returns. James Arnall, marketing director for employee rewards program Perkbox in London, has struggled to get his team of 15 workers across the UK and Australia back to the office. In November 2021, after a difficult month for sales, Arnall and the other managers in the company decided to enforce more time in the office – four days a week. "We thought we'd always worked better together in person, across the sales, marketing, customer success and revenue teams, because excitement would build up at the end of the month." link : https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20230907-the-perks-and-incentives-coaxing-workers-back-to-the-office
