  22. Internal Taxes (DGII) reported that, as of December 31, 2018, the Dominican vehicle fleet amounted to 4,350,884 units, registering a total of 253,546 new entry vehicles more than in 2017. The data is contained in the Statistical Bulletin of the Vehicle Park of the Dominican Republic, which contains the main statistics and transactions carried out by taxpayers, showing the composition of the vehicle park by vehicle class, origin, brand, color, year of manufacture, as well as by gender and age of the owners. Internal Taxes explained that motorcycles show a greater growth in absolute terms with 159,840 new registrations, for an increase of 7.1% over the previous year; followed by automobiles with an increase of 44,234 for a growth of 5.1%. They are followed by jeeps with an increase of 30,476 new units, an increase of 7.3%. According to the Bulletin, the composition of the vehicle fleet corresponds to 55.1% motorcycles, 20.9% automobiles, 10.3% are jeeps and the remaining 13.6% corresponds to cargo vehicles, buses, among others. Other information contained in the bulletin indicates that 77.5% of the vehicle fleet belongs to the male gender, while 22.5% to the female. Regarding the age of the owner, of the total number of vehicles registered in the name of individuals, 29.8% correspond to people over 56 years of age, 26.6% to people whose age is between 36 and 45 years, 26.2% to those who they are between 46 and 55 years old, 17.2% to people who are between 26 and 35 years old and the remaining 0.3% to those under 25 years of age. By categorizing by country of origin, excluding motorcycles, most vehicles are Japanese representing 66.3%, followed by those of American origin, with a participation of 10.6%, Koreans with 9.9%, Europeans with 7.1% and vehicles from other origins represent 6.2%. According to color preferences, gray, white and blue are the most predominant in the case of automobiles, with a participation of 21.0%, 20.9% and 14.2%, respectively. Regarding jeeps, the most predominant colors are white, gray and black, with shares of 25%, 19.1% and 15.9%, respectively.

President Danilo Medina met yesterday with various sectors of the country, including trade unionists, businessmen, and the Catholic and Evangelical churches, in order to discuss a plan for an eventual reopening of the economy, 72 days after Covid- 19 made a presence in the country, claiming the lives of 393 people and infecting 10,364. The first to be received were the union leaders represented by the president of the Autonomous Confederation of Classical Trade Unions (CASC), Gabriel del Río; the president of the National Confederation of Union Unity, Rafael (Pepe) Abreu and the president of the National Central of Dominican Workers (CNTD), Jacobo Ramos. So far it is unknown whether the state of emergency will be extended for the fourth time. Church representatives The head of state also held a meeting with representatives of the Dominican Episcopal Conference, who expressed their concerns about the country in the time after the coronavirus. After concluding this meeting, Medina met with representatives of the Evangelical Church to get their opinion on a gradual opening of commercial activities. Monsignors Benito Ángeles, José Dolores Grullón, Faustino Burgos Brisman and Santiago Rodríguez were present for the CED.
