In India, there are many beautiful states and cities, and if the pandemic year has taught us anything, it is the value of exploring and finding out more about domestic destinations. In the latter half of 2020 and beginning 2021, Indian travellers visited — and plan to visit — more places within the country than they have ever done before, mainly because of international travel restrictions. And as a result of all these escapades, it has now been revealed that the state of Kerala is the most welcoming region in the county. As part of its Traveller Review Awards 2021, digital travel company Booking.com revealed the top five most welcoming regions in India, and the state of Kerala topped this list, followed by Rajasthan, Goa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The most welcoming cities in India are (ranked 1 to 5): Palolem (Goa), Agonda (Goa), Mararikulam (Kerala), Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), and Thekkady (Kerala). While hotels remained the most-awarded accommodation type in India for 2021, followed by resorts, three out of the five top-awarded accommodation types are: homestays, guesthouses and apartments. Alternative accommodations accounted for 30 per cent of all new bookings in the third quarter of 2020, per the data shared by Booking.com. In terms of international travel, the top three countries with the most number of winners this year include Italy, followed by Spain and France. India ranked higher than New Zealand, Turkey, Chile, Colombia and China. The Booking.com Traveller Review Awards 2021 offers insights into traveller preferences throughout the past year, revealing that travellers appreciate staff, cleanliness and location most when reviewing award-winning properties on the platform. With consumers increasingly becoming conscious of health and hygiene, on average, winners had a cleanliness score that was 17 per cent higher than the average cleanliness score for non-winners, suggesting it may be a differentiator for a more-perfect welcome.

Four Moroccan artists, including three models and a singer, took part in designer Simon Porte Jacquemus’ spring 2021 collection fashion show that is now available for viewers online. The fashion show, which was held last July in the French Vexin Regional Natural Park, just outside of Paris and surrounded by wheat, featured three models of Moroccan origin: Nora Attal, Imaan Hammam, and Malika El-Maslouhi, and Belgian-Moroccan rapper and singer Hamza Al Farissi. Jacquemus recently released a video of the fashion show showcasing his spring 2021 collection that consists of flowing pants, maxi-dresses, loose blazers, polo dresses, and trendy tops, all in soft shades of beige, ivory, white, mint green, gray, and pink. The fashion show only had 100 guests due to France’s state of health emergency rules. The French designer dedicated this romantic spring collection titled “Amour” to his team. “The great thing about L’Amour is how it can hold out – sometimes even get stronger – in the absence of people being together,” Jacquemus said in an Instagram post. British-Moroccan Nora Maria Attal walked the outdoor runway in a cropped blouse and skirt of nude colors. Models.com ranks the 21-year-old ranks as one of the top 50 models worldwide. Attal has participated in many international fashion shows, including on other Jacquemus runaways, and modeled for other prestigious designers such as Prada, Fendi, Dior, Chanel, Versace. Imaan Hammam paraded the “Amour” runaway show in a beige pinstripe, fishtail cut jumpsuit. The Dutch-Moroccan model has appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine 18 times, including four times on the American edition. The Moroccan model has walked the runaways of some 43 top brands including Dior, Victoria’s Secret, Valentino, Prada, Hugo Boss, Givenchy, Michael Kors, Fendi, Versace, and others. Hammam also designed and released her own clothing collection in collaboration with fashion brand Frame. The third Moroccan model who walked in Jacquemus’ fashion show was Moroccan-Italian Malika El Maslouhi. She sported a pair of coral high-waisted trousers and a crop top. Like Hammam and Attal, the 20-year-old rising model has also walked for top designers such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Hermes, and others. Vogue magazine also named the model one of the best performers at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in the spring of 2020. When it comes to music, Jacquemus chose Belgian-Moroccan rapper and singer Hamza Al Farissi to take part in the fashion show video with his hit song “God Bless,” featuring rapper Damso.

Italian police have recovered a 500-year-old copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s 16th century Salvator Mundi painting of Jesus Christ that was stolen from a Naples church during the pandemic without the priests even realizing it was gone. The discovery was made when Naples police working on a bigger operation found the painting hidden in an apartment. Police chief Alfredo Fabbrocini said the apartment owner was detained after he offered a “less than credible” explanation that he had “casually” bought it at a market. The painting is a copy of the Salvator Mundi (Savior of the World) by Leonardo that sold for a record $450 million at a Christie’s auction in 2017. The unnamed bidder was later identified as a Saudi royal who purportedly purchased it on behalf of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. It was supposed to have been unveiled a year later at the museum, but the exhibition was delayed indefinitely and the work hasn’t been seen in public since. The copy, attributed to the Leonardo school but not the Renaissance artist himself, had been housed in a small museum in a side chapel of the Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples, which had been closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Fabbrocini said the discovery was particularly satisfying “because we resolved a case before it was created.” He explained: “The painting was found but its custodian hadn’t realised it was stolen.” The painting depicts a robed Jesus holding a crystal orb and gazing directly at the viewer. The San Domenico basilica says the painting was probably made by a Leonardo student in the 1520s and purchased by Giovan Antonio Muscettola, an adviser to Emperor Charles V and ambassador to the papal court. It was housed in the basilica’s Muscettola family chapel. It was restored prior to being exhibited in a 1983-1984 show “Leonardo and Leonardism in Naples and Rome.”

The US’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara puts immense pressure on France to follow suit, argued Moroccan political analyst Samir Bennis. According to the foreign policy expert, France needs to officially recognize Morocco’s territorial integrity, or else it might lose its position as a privileged partner of Morocco in favor of the US. Bennis made the statement during the sixth Morocco Day event, held online on January 18, in response to a question about the future of Morocco-France relations, in light of the American support of Morocco in Western Sahara. “France should be worried about its interests in the region because, with the US’ recognition of the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, Morocco is in a better and stronger position than ever before,” Bennis said. “France used to draw the Sahara card in order to pressure Morocco into striking this deal or that, but, with the US’ recognition, France will be overtaken by the US,” he continued. Bennis argued that the time when France used to monopolize investment deals in Morocco is over. In the future, he predicted, Morocco will not have to exclusively rely on France to attract foreign investments. “Morocco is a sovereign state and it has proven that over and over again over the past few years,” the expert said, stressing that Morocco’s position on the global stage has become significantly stronger over the past decade. “It is important for France to take bold and clear action and to show resolute and clear support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara,” Bennis declared. “It is not enough for France, nor Spain, which both share historical responsibility in the conflict, to say that the Moroccan Autonomy Plan can be the basis of a political solution. They have to follow in the footsteps of the US and say that the Moroccan Autonomy Plan is the only basis of the political solution.” The political analyst believes that France’s decision about Western Sahara will shape the future of its bilateral partnerships with Morocco: “The ball now is in France’s court.” Unless France officially recognizes Morocco’s territorial integrity, Morocco will focus on forging partnerships with other countries, notably the US and the UK, Bennis predicted. “I think there is a trend in Morocco to open up more to the US and other countries, because Morocco does not want to be dependent on one or two countries. It wants to diversify because when you diversify you are on a stronger footing than when you depend on one or two countries,” he said. “It is in the best interest of France to hurry and show willingness to support Morocco in a bold and unambiguous way. Otherwise, it will be overtaken by the US, and maybe the UK as well,” he emphasized.

Ever since there came a surge in her po[CENSORED]rity, people took notice of vice president-elect of the United States Kamala Harris’ fashion choices — of the subtleties and the statements she has made and continues to make with her ensembles. Among other things, Harris has been spotted in her statement pearls and her Converse shoes during numerous public outings. In fact, when she and her husband Doug Emhoff had recently sat down for an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the latter had told host Jane Pauley that Harris was in “Chucks and jeans” when he had met for the first time, and that she has “several closets full of them”. On January 20, as Joe Biden prepares to take office as the 46th President of the United States, Harris will make history as the first woman, the first Black woman and the first woman of South Asian descent to be elected vice president. And it is only fitting that Harris’ supporters celebrate her victory by rocking “Chucks and pearls”. According to a report in Popsugar, thousands of her supporters are planning to wear classic Chuck Taylors and a string of pearls on Inauguration Day (January 20). Besides planning to emulate her style, the group has formed a Facebook page ‘Chucks and Pearls Day, January 20th, 2021‘, which currently has over 85,335 members. “We love our new VP and we know how much she loves chucks and of course, those Pearls. We want women from all walks of life to honor her by wearing chucks and pearls on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2021. We can meet here to show off pictures of blinged out chucks, regular chucks, strands of pearls and stacks of pearls. Let’s share ideas of Inauguration Day celebrations, how will you celebrate? You, your chucks and a glass of wine? However you celebrate, share a post, let’s enjoy this historical event together (sic),” the page description reads. In fact, per the report #ChucksAndTaylors was also trending on Twitter. It also mentioned that as an accessory, pearls have been close to Harris’ heart, for she “likely wears [them] in honor of [her] sorority’s founders, aka the ‘Twenty Pearls’, and to represent solidarity with her sisters”.

The general manager of Renault Commerce Maroc, Fabric Crevola, said that sales of new vehicles in the automotive market declined by nearly 20% in 2020, compared to a year earlier. Around the world, plant-based foods and diets are being recognised now more than ever — especially in the last few years, when the focus has shifted towards a more healthy lifestyle and food choice. A vegan restaurant in France has recently won a Michelin star for serving only animal-free products, The Guardian reports. According to the outlet, it is the first time that Michelin star has been awarded to such an establishment in France. The restaurant — ONA (Origine Non Animale) — is being run by one Claire Vallee in the city of Ares, near Bordeaux. It was launched in 2016 by means of crowdfunding from supporters and a loan from a green bank. Vallee was quoted as telling AFP that she received a call from the Guide Michelin informing her of its decision. “It felt like I got hit by a train.” A spokesperson for Guide Michelin told the agency that ONA is “the first vegan restaurant in France to win a star”. Per The Guardian report, in addition to the classic star, Vallee’s restaurant also won a green star, which was introduced by Michelin last year, so as to reward establishments with a “strong record for ethical practices”. The restaurant offered seven dishes on its gourmet menu before it had to close because of Covid-19 restrictions in the country. Vallee’s personal favourite combinations include pine, boletus mushroom and sake, or celery, tonka, and amber ale. But, the journey was not easy. When Vallee had approached traditional French banks for loan, she was told: “the outlook for veganism and plant-based food was too uncertain”. Looking back, she holds no grudges for she feels “everybody does their job”.

Almost a year ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior royals so as to seek more financial independence, away from UK’s tabloid’s culture. But since then, there have been rumours of a rift in the family, especially with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton. And while Harry and Meghan are doing well for themselves in the US now, there is some kind of regret over tensions in the family. According to a report in the Insider, journalist Tom Bradby, who is a friend of the couple, appears to have said that while he thinks the duke and duchess are “content”, they are dealing with “heartbreak” related to Harry’s family. “I think they are feeling better, yes. So are they unhappy? No, I think they are content, the things they are doing they are quite excited by,” Bradby has been quoted as saying, according to People magazine. Talking about the duke, Bradby continued: “I think he is heartbroken by the situation with his family. You don’t necessarily need to have knowledge to know that, but I think it is true. The situation with the family clearly isn’t ideal, and it has been a very difficult year for them all.” The journalist had previously interviewed Harry and Markle for an ITV News documentary, during the fall 2019 royal tour. In the interview, he had asked the duchess if she was okay, and she had said: “Not many people have asked if I’m okay.” The video had been widely shared at the time and continues to be discussed today. It seems that Harry and Meghan are trying to make things right by the Cambridge royals, for it was recently reported that they had sent a gift over to Kate Middleton, for her 39th birthday, one that had surprised the duchess — she was even “taken aback” — for she wasn’t expecting anything from them. A source close to Meghan and Harry, meanwhile, had previously shared with People magazine that the couple is “hoping 2021 can be a time of healing not just for the world, but for their family”. The outlet reports that Harry and his older brother William’s “already fractured relationship” suffered more when “Harry fell for Meghan in 2016”. William, it is being said, “wasn’t afraid to voice his reservations” about the romance.

Rabat – In a statement to local news outlet, minister of energy Aziz Rabbah stated Morocco is heavily investing in the field of renewable energies in the southern provinces. Rabbah said Morocco’s investment in renewable energies is a “historic opportunity” to advance the country’s economic standing. The constantly growing field will “diversify the country’s economy” and position the North African country as a self-sufficient producer of energy. The minister added the country’s southern provinces are rich with natural resources and have the potential to attract big projects from national public and private sectors in addition to foreign investments. The southern provinces, especially the city of Dakhla, are experiencing a “big revolution,” added Rabbah. The new, in-progress project aims to connect Dakhla to an electrical network. It is set to cost MAD 2.5 billion ($ 2.79 million). The region will also become a center for scientific research in the fields of renewable energies, sustainable transport, and sustainable housing, the Moroccan minister explained. Dakhla will become a strategic and international hub and an essential axis for the African continent added Rabbah. The city will witness investments in air transport, maritime transport through the Dakhla Atlantic Port, in addition to the fields of agriculture, solar energy, and maritime energy. Rabbah’s statements echo Morocco’s plans to boost development projects in its southern provinces. On November 7, King Mohammed VI announced during his 2020 Green March anniversary speech a number of development projects in southern Morocco. The region’s development will go hand in hand with projects in the fields of renewable energy. Morocco has been increasingly investing in the field of renewable energy throughout the last decade. Minister Aziz Rabbah said the country’s investments in renewable energy has exceeded MAD 52 billion ($5.65 billion) over the past 10 years. The minister vowed that the North African country will inject another MAD 52 billion ($5.65 billion) into the sector. Morocco’s Economic, Social, and Environmental Council (CESE) forecasts that Morocco has the potential to produce 96% of its electricity using renewable energy sources by 2050.

As US President-elect Joe Biden makes arrangements to move into the White House, he may have to leave behind his high-tech exercise bike. The Peloton stationary bike, which gained po[CENSORED]rity with many celebrities and elected officials using it for cardio, could pose a national security risk, reported Independent. That is because the bike doesn’t just allow you to pedal but also gives access to many exercise classes, and is equipped with a microphone, and a built-in camera that connects through the internet. And experts believe that the technology could be prone to risks like hacking, according to Po[CENSORED]r Mechanics. “Because you’re connected to the Internet, even though there are firewalls and intrusion detection software … those things can be gotten around if you’re really good and skilled,” Max Kilger, director of the data analytics program and associate professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio told the magazine. In the podcast Here’s The Deal, Biden had earlier spoken about he relied on the bike for exercise during the pandemic. “I try to get out of bed by eight o’clock in the morning and I have a gym in my house, upstairs. I have a treadmill and a Peloton bike and some weights. And I try to work out every morning. That sort of gets me going,” the 78-year-old had said. As per Kilger, the bike would be safe to use inside the White House only if the camera, microphone, and networking equipment were removed. Before Biden, former POTUS Barack Obama too was allowed only a specially modified Blackberry for sending emails but no phone calls, he had revealed in his memoir A Promised Land.

Rabat – Parliamentarian Bruno Fuchs of France’s largest party stated that Morocco “can count on France” regarding the Western Sahara issue. “The conflict in the Sahara has lasted long enough and it must be brought to an end,” he told Moroccan state media in an interview on Thursday. The parliamentarian for French President Emmanuel Macron’s La Republique En Marche! (LREM) party expressed strong opinions on the conflict. Amid shifting diplomatic sands, Fuchs stated that “France has a very similar position, very close in any case.” He added that he wishes to see it factor into a “multilateral approach” to resolve the conflict. The French MP considers the US’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara as a positive step in the right direction. The move was “a very important step towards the resolution of this conflict,” Fuchs said while hinting at a future role for France. US recognition ”can be virtuous and must be continued and accompanied,” Fuchs stated. Closely aligned Fuchs appeared confident that France’s views on the Western Sahara issue align closely with those of Morocco. France has expressed it is “very, very close” to Morocco’s proposal because it offers autonomy to the Sahrawi people, Fuchs explained. “France continues to consider the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as a just, realistic and lasting solution to resolve the Sahara conflict,” the French MP said. France itself has a long history of regionalist and separatist movements, he said as he highlighted the similar perspectives of both countries. While the EU and France’s official position might appear reluctant towards Morocco’s framework for peace, “in reality we see permanent cooperation,” Fuchs stated. France “counts on Morocco on a daily basis” when it comes to counter-terrorism and broader security issues, according to the French MP. The parliamentarian from eastern France sees Morocco’s diplomatic gains in Western Sahara as a possible key to resolve other conflicts as well. US recognition of Moroccan sovereignty alone could already impact the stability of the Sahel, according to Fuchs. He sees the consequences reaching all the way to Palestine, where Morocco’s new ties could “be a factor” for peace.
