If the tech news is not the most provided in these times of containment - because of the cancellation of most of the events, and the postponement of others - Apple still decided to distill its novelties. After a salvo of launch of new products last week, with the new iPad Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini, the Cupertino company has just launched its new updates to the general public. Since yesterday, the final versions of iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, macOS 10.15.4, watchOS 6.2 and tvOS 13.4 have been available. While most of these updates only provide security fixes, the update is not that minor for the iPhone, and most importantly, the iPad. Here are the four most striking new features! On the iPad: trackpad and mouse support If it was possible to use a mouse on the iPad since the launch of iPadOS 13 in September 2019, the function was above all an accessibility setting not well suited to the device. This is how to support its future Magic Trackpad, the Cupertino company launches radically redesigned support for the mouse and the trackpad on iPadOS 13.4. Any third-party device is now recognized by the iPad, and there is a brand new pointer that "snaps" to the various elements of the interface. The different touch gestures are thus replaced by gestures made with the trackpad, definitely bringing the tablet closer to a small Mac backup. We tested this function at the editorial office (from home, of course), and we were pleasantly surprised by the fluidity and consistency of the whole. Craig Federighi, vice president of software engineering at Apple even demonstrated it on video, with the all-new iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard. ICloud Drive file sharing Promised by Apple during WWDC 2019 during the presentation of iOS 13, the file sharing function of iCloud Drive was finally put aside, despite its presence on the very first beta. Finally, we had to wait for version 13.4 to take advantage of it. File sharing in iCloud Drive works in much the same way as that in Dropbox, Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. It allows, using a link, to transfer any file or folder to a third party very easily. To use it, go to the Files app to find the folder to transfer, then click on "Share", and finally "Add people". Purchases shared between Mac and iDevice Direct repercussions of the "Marzipan" project, which aimed to reconcile the apps available on the iOS App Store and the Mac App Store, purchases made in one of the app stores are now synchronized with the other. In other words: an application purchased on the iPhone will be offered for free on the Mac, and vice versa, when it was necessary to buy the same application twice before. This change only bodes well for the future of the Mac, since iPad applications are gradually being adapted on the Mac App Store. Mail finally usable Flanked by multiple bugs since the arrival of iOS 13, Apple's Mail app finally gets improvements in iOS 13.4. If the general design does not change, the different display bugs have finally been fixed, and there is a brand new toolbar for filing emails, with more options. Of course, there are other new features, such as the appearance of a real-time karaoke mode in Music, the arrival of new Memoji stickers, or an accessibility option that allows you to activate "Say, Siri". permanently. So this is not a minor update that Apple has just provided in full confinement, the opportunity to spend some time discovering all the news, especially on the iPad.

Italy continues to count its dead. A total of 5,476 people have been killed by the Covid-19 pandemic, a coronavirus-related disease in the country, where 651 people have died in the past 24 hours, according to figures released Sunday March 22 by civil protection. The figure is lower than that announced on Saturday (793, a record), but it is still the second heaviest assessment since the start of the pandemic. The total number of positive cases also increased by just over 10% (59,158 or 5,560 more than on Saturday). The most affected region, Lombardy, remained in a critical situation with 3,456 deaths and 27,206 cases of contamination, against 3,095 deaths and 25,515 contaminations on Saturday. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced on Saturday that "all production activity in the territory that would not be strictly necessary" would be stopped. Only essential public services and economic sectors will be maintained. These measures "are severe, I know. But we have no alternative. We must resist," said the head of government.

All-new third-generation EcoDiesel engine offers 480 lb-ft of torque, best for a half-ton diesel Towing capacity up to 12,560 pounds, best for a half-ton diesel Available in all new Ram 1500 trim levels, including base Tradesman and off-road Rebel Priced as a $4,995 option over V6, $3,000-$3,300 over V8 Pricing starts at $36,890, plus $1,695 destination In 2014, Ram revived the half-ton diesel engine market with its first-generation EcoDiesel, which at the time was the only way you could get anything smaller than a 3/4-ton pickup with a turbodiesel under the hood. Fast-forward to late 2019, and the landscape the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel faces is very different. Now, not only does the F-150 have a diesel engine option, but Chevrolet and GMC will have diesel Silverados and Sierras, in addition to its diesel compact/midsize Colorados and Canyons. Can Ram come back and retake the leadership role it once had? We went to Duluth, Minnesota, to drive the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, to see if it can pass muster against the competition. Driving the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel The Ram 1500 stands out from the rest of the half-tons on the market with its combination of capability, comfort and technology. This generation Ram was all-new for 2019, and is the most luxurious, most capable and most technologically advanced truck Ram has ever made. It would behoove Ram to make sure the next generation of its diesel truck would meet the high expectations that the 1500 sets. Good news: It does. It begins when you start the truck. There’s very little noise coming from the 3.0-liter, 260-hp, 480 lb-ft V6 EcoDiesel. It emits a muted burble, just enough that you know it’s a diesel, but it’s such a soft purr there’s no question about the engine’s refinement. There are no rattles. There is no diesel smell. The strongest evidence that you are in a diesel-powered truck is in how it drives. Acceleration comes on strong and with confidence, without any noticeable lag. It feels more like a smooth, steady launch than the neck-bending sensation of a powerful gas engine. The newly recalibrated 8-speed automatic transmission works nicely with the EcoDiesel. You initially use a knob control on the dash for Park, Reverse, Neutral and Drive, but can manually control gears with pushbuttons on the steering wheel. We never felt that the truck was in the wrong gear, and shifts were smooth and predictable. Both the F-150 and the Silverado back their diesel engines with a 10-speed automatic, but we didn’t feel deprived when driving the Ram with the 8-speed. Towing with the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is a breeze. We took out a 5,100-pound trailer behind a Laramie Longhorn, and power delivery and transmission shift points were spot on. Visibility was very good, and we were happy with the size of the side mirrors – which isn’t something to be taken for granted. The rest of the driving experience with the Ram EcoDiesel is just as good as with the entire Ram 1500 line: The ride is comfortable, the interior offers luxury-like materials and quality, and the class-leading tech is easy to use.

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, spoke this Saturday, March 21 on the question of the shortage of masks in France to fight against the epidemic of coronavirus. Regarding the "duration" and "extent" of the containment period, he announced that the conclusions of the committee of experts would be released on Monday. The authorities have ordered "250 million masks" which will be delivered "gradually", the current shortage in particular for nursing staff is fueling a controversy, said the minister during a press point. "When the Covid-19 appeared, there were only (in France) 117 million surgical masks and no strategic state stock in FFP2 mask," he acknowledged. Regarding the distribution, for the next two weeks, he said, priority will be given for these masks to health workers in the city as well as to the hospital and to people working with the elderly. For example, the Ehpad will have 500,000 masks per day.

Buyers love rugged light-duty trucks like the Ford Raptor, Ram Rebel, and Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss. So, it only makes sense that some companies have extended those same (or similar) packages to their heavy-duty truck lineup, too. Already there’s the Ram Power Wagon, Ford Super Duty Tremor, and Nissan Titan XD Pro-4X. And now GM has its own entry: the GMC Sierra HD AT4. The Sierra HD AT4 (like all AT4 models) couples rugged exterior styling and off-road chops to a well-equipped cabin loaded with good optional tech. But because the Sierra’s competitors offer more in the way of safety, and because GMC has the priciest truck of the bunch (our tester costs a whopping $77,555), the HD AT4 feels like a less compelling choice in a class stacked with better alternatives. Design Two things we really like about the Sierra HD: it's comically large (with the extended box, this truck measures in at 22 feet long), and the oversized grille looks like it wants to swallow up everything else on the road. And in the optional AT4 off-road trim (a hefty $14,400 add-on to the base Sierra HD), it looks rugged. The AT4 model's massive grille gets darkened vertical chrome slats rather than the base model's bright chrome mesh. A set of 18-inch wheels with gloss black accents, wrapped in rugged all-terrain tires, replace the normal chrome set. And just below the grille, you'll find the same red tow hooks as on other AT4 models. As for the cabin, you do get an 8.0-inch touchscreen standard (though, it looks tiny on the otherwise gargantuan vehicle) on the AT4 trim, but cheap black plastic and faux chrome surround it, just like you’ll find in the more affordable Chevrolet Silverado and light-duty Sierra. There are some nicer materials within eyeshot – like leather and soft plastic – and the black leather seats have a nice finish, but we expect better materials of a truck that costs north of $77,000. Ford and Ram are lightyears ahead in terms of material quality and design.

The director of the Spanish health alert center Fernando Simon announced on Friday that the death toll from coronavirus in his country was now 1002 and 19,980 cases of contamination. Spain has surpassed the 1,000 dead mark due to the coronavirus and is approaching 20,000 cases, announced Friday the director of the health alert center Fernando Simon. The country has "1,002 deaths", 235 more than the day before, and "nationally we have 19,980 cases, with an increase of 2,833 cases compared to Thursday, an increase of 16.5%," said Fernando Simon at a press conference. Tenfold increase in deaths in one week The death toll has increased tenfold in seven days. But 1,585 people are now healed. The rate of increase in the number of cases detected has slowed compared to the previous day, where it had increased by 25%. But "it is very likely that (the numbers) underestimate the total transmission," admitted Fernando Simon. Data should be read with "laboratory overload" in mind, which can lead to distortions, he said. Spain notably lacks kits for testing, the authorities had already admitted. The majority of those infected are in Madrid, which has 7,165 cases (36% of the national total), including 628 deaths. Follow Catalonia (northeast) with 3270 infected and the Basque Country (north) with 1465 cases. About 52% of infected people are hospitalized, or 10,542 people, including 1,141 in intensive care. In recent hours, the main airports and ports of the country have been disinfected as well as retirement homes and prisons, by the approximately 2,640 soldiers deployed, said the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Miguel Angel Villarroya. 55 people arrested Fifty-five people were arrested on Thursday for failing to comply with the confinement measures, a figure "on the rise", said operational director of the national police Jose Angel Gonzalez, who warned that there would now be a " zero tolerance". A police helicopter spotted a youth party in an uninhabited area on Thursday, he said. Spaniards are not allowed to leave their homes except to work, shop for food or buy medicine.
