NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4010 GPU is "seemingly" a reality, but instead of being an official release, the SKU is apparently being sold openly on Chinese marketplaces. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4010 GPU Is Apparently A "Repackaged" Model, But Coming With Out-Of-Box Driver Support Modded GPUs are something that is relatively easy to find on public marketplaces, many of those in China, given that individuals are always up to something. From changing PCBs to even integrating mobile GPUs into desktop form factors, you will always get surprises from modders in China. Similarly, the YouTuber Budget-Builds Official managed to get his hands on a GeForce RTX 4010 GPU, but interestingly, this particular SKU isn't an official one, but rather a modified unit that holds silicon of some other GPU model that we'll disclose later on. The GeForce RTX 4010 is built by an "unofficial" AIB partner called Shenzen Bitland, an ODM firm that specializes in repackaging and manufacturing hardware. Upon unboxing the package, the GeForce RTX 4010 was revealed to be a single-slot GPU with a blower-style fan design, suggesting that the SKU targets low-profile workloads. It looks like some sort of "cut-down" GPU model accessible to Chinese consumers, and this is the case since the part ahead is pretty interesting. GeForce RTX 4010 isn't an actual thing, at least in NVIDIA's books. Still, it looks like driver support was indeed seamless, without any problems. GPU-Z showed that the SKU had 4 GB GDDR6 memory and 96 GB/s bandwidth, suggesting that this GPU is indeed targeted for low-end workloads. Props to the Chinese seller for ensuring that the GPU works out of the box, given that this isn't usually the case for modded GPUs. Budget-Builds Official ran synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark along with several other gaming titles such as RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, and many more. The performance wasn't that bad, especially when considering that the GPU ran on unoptimized drivers. Despite this, the GeForce RTX 4010 managed to bring in 20-30 average FPS across multiple titles, which is decent enough considering the specifications onboard. Now, onto the twist: The "bogus" GeForce RTX 4010 is NVIDIA's RTX A400 Ampere workstation GPU since the spec sheet matches with GPU-Z results. The seller has also managed to bump up clock speeds by an extra 200 Mhz, adding a little more performance. This particular SKU was bought at £80, which is considered to be a decent price when you look at the state of Chinese markets. Interestingly, this GPU is popular among OEM builds. Well, there you have it. Another bogus GPU making the headlines and out of the ordinary turned out to be a decent package. We would never recommend getting hands-on with such SKUs given that they often come with a lot of problems hence sticking to "official" NVIDIA GPUs makes sense here. https://wccftech.com/nvidias-bogus-geforce-rtx-4010-gpu-surfaces-online-surprisingly-comes-with-decent-performance-driver-support/

While the visuals of The Witcher IV were undoubtedly the cinematic trailer's most impressive thing (although pre-rendered on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090), long-time fans of the series may have also noticed that new protagonist Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, known colloquially as Ciri, was voiced by a new actress. CD Projekt RED later confirmed the fact to The Gamer, revealing that Ciara Berkeley had replaced The Witcher 3's Jo Wyatt. Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer, we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series. This statement did not provide certainty regarding the character's portrayal in the actual game. However, The Gamer subsequently received confirmation that Ciara will also voice Ciri in The Witcher IV. Berkeley is a young actress with a very short career. So far, she's credited for taking on small roles in the TV miniseries Normal People and The Deceived, both released in 2020. This may turn out to be her breakout role, although it may be at least a couple of years before we actually get to experience her work - after all, The Witcher IV entered full production not long ago. Speaking of the character Ciri, CD Projekt RED has recently discussed why she was the obvious choice for the new saga's main character. The studio said Ciri deserved her own journey, and as she's just starting in her new role as a Witcher, this also means players will have much greater agency in defining her choices as a character compared to Geralt in the previous games. The developers also said they wanted to increase the gameplay variety available to players in comparison to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, taking a cue from Cyberpunk 2077 in that area. It might mean Ciri could sneak up on her enemies, unlike Geralt, though this is just speculation on our part for now. https://wccftech.com/the-witcher-ivs-ciri-has-a-new-voice-actress/

Elite sport funding body UK Sport says it will invest a record £330m in Britain's Olympic and Paralympic sports for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. More than 50 sports will benefit, though athletics has had its budget reduced for the second cycle running. Five new sports for the 2028 Games - baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, Para-climbing and squash - have all received funding. Breaking, which featured for the first time at the Paris Games this summer, is no longer eligible for support after it was axed from the Olympic programme. The total figure will top £400m with the addition of athlete performance awards (APAs), which are paid directly to individual athletes and contribute to their living and sporting costs so they can focus on competing - about £70m was awarded in APAs in the Paris funding cycle, which totalled £385m. Sally Munday, chief executive officer of UK Sport, told BBC Sport funding should not be looked at as either a "reward" or a "punishment" for performances at the Paris Games. "The decision that we've made against all the sports is we've looked at their potential," said Munday. "UK Athletics will receive in excess of £30m for the Olympic and Paralympic programmes and we believe that's going to put them in a great place to support their athletes in the lead into LA." Jack Buckner, CEO of UK Athletics, said the organisation was "disappointed" with the decision to reduce the sport's share by £1.725m, and highlighted the 10 medals at both the World Championships in 2023 and this year's Olympics "deserved a higher level of investment". Canoeing was another sport to have its funding cut, by more than £500,000. When the total funding for the Paris 2024 cycle is taken into account, modern pentathlon and equestrian have received a smaller budget, but rowing has increased to £24.85m from £22.72m, despite a cut between Tokyo and Paris. Meanwhile, British Basketball Federation chair Chris Grant said the sport "has entered a new era" with an award of £2.925m, primarily to help develop the 3x3 format of the game. Great Britain won 65 medals at this year's Games and 124 medals at the Paralympics. They finished seventh in the Olympic medal table, behind the Netherlands in sixth and fifth-placed France, but Munday said the aim is to be "consistently top five". "We'll be really forensic - were there contributing factors that we could do differently to make sure that we don't find ourselves in that position again?" said Munday. "We will be leaving no stone unturned to make sure that we've really understood what the factors are as to why we came seventh. But we're very clear we want to be consistently top five." https://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/articles/cjr2lgj0x31o

Canada's Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned from her post, citing disagreements with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on how to respond to incoming President Donald Trump's threat of tariffs. She announced her resignation in a letter to Trudeau on Monday, in which she said the two have been "at odds about the best path forward for Canada", and pointed to the "grave challenge" posed by Trump's policy of "aggressive economic nationalism". Freeland said the decision comes after Trudeau informed her last week that he no longer wanted her to be his government's top economic adviser. Her resignation came hours before she was due to provide an annual fiscal government update in parliament. In recent days, the two have also reportedly been in a dispute over a policy that would have delivered a C$250 ($175; £139) cheque to every eligible Canadian. The BBC has reached out to the prime minister's office and the finance department for comment. In her publicly-shared resignation letter, Freeland said Canada needs to keep its "fiscal powder dry" to deal with the threat of sweeping tariffs from US President-elect Donald Trump. She added this means "eschewing costly political gimmicks" that Canada cannot afford. Trump has promised to impose a levy of 25% on imported Canadian goods, which economists have warned would significantly hurt Canada's economy. Referencing the tariffs, Freeland called them a "threat" that needs to be taken "extremely seriously". She added that this means "pushing back against 'America First' economic nationalism" and working with unity in response to these tariff threats. Freeland and Trudeau were reportedly in disagreement over a series of recently-proposed policies by the prime minister designed to address the country's cost-of-living crisis. Among them is a cheque of C$250 that the government wanted to send to every Canadian earning less than C$150,000 annually. These cheques were expected to cost the federal government a total of C$4.68bn. Another is a temporary tax break on essential items during the holidays which is anticipated to cost C$1.6bn in lost tax revenue. Freeland's office had reportedly been concerned about the price of these two policies, saying they are economically unwise at a time when the country's deficit is growing. The tax holiday has since been approved in the House of Commons, but the C$250-cheques hit a hurdle when the New Democratic Party - a centre-left party in parliament - signalled it would not lend its support to the policy unless it is expanded. A poll by the Angus Reid Institute showed that four out of five Canadians viewed the cheques as a political move designed to win public goodwill as Trudeau's popularity plummets. Freeland, who also holds the position of deputy prime minister, has long been one of Trudeau's closest allies within his Liberal party. She has held the key role of Canada's finance minister since 2020, helping to lead the country through the pandemic and its aftermath. She replaced former Finance Minister Bill Morneau, who also resigned from his post amid a dispute with Trudeau over government spending policies, as well as conflict-of-interest allegations he faced involving a youth charity. Other members of the Liberal party's cabinet have since reacted to her resignation. "These are difficult and deeply personal decisions and obviously she's made that decision and I respect her for it," said Patty Hajdu, Canada's minister for indigenous relations. Minister of Transport Anita Anand described Freeland as a "good friend," and added: "This news has hit me really hard and I'll reserve further comment until I have time to process it." It is unclear if the fall economic statement will be delivered on Monday as planned in light of Freeland's resignation. A government official told Reuters news agency that the finance ministry is determining next steps. Canada's public broadcaster CBC reported that Freeland's resignation was not expected today, citing a senior federal government source. Freeland said she intends to stay on as a Liberal member of parliament, and that she will run again in Canada's upcoming election, which must be held on or before October. Her resignation comes after another cabinet member, housing minister Sean Fraser, announced he will not be seeking re-election, saying he wants to spend more time with his family. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2elggj813o

Today marks the twentieth anniversary since the release of VtM - Bloodlines, the beloved first-person roleplaying game set in the World of Darkness. Developed by the short-lived Troika Games, it was designed by some of the minds behind the first two Fallout games and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky, and Jason Anderson. The game's development was not at all easy due to milestone delays that eventually brought the project over its intended budget. Publisher Activision ultimately demanded a release candidate to ship the game no matter what, but Troika had only managed to do a few weeks of testing. Needless to say, this greatly affected the game's polish. VtM - Bloodlines was the quintessential gem in the rough, widely praised for its story, characters, and overall writing, while also being a bug-ridden fest. Despite the overall positive reception (it was rated 80% on Metacritic by critic reviews), sales were heavily disappointing. Following the game's launch, Troika tried to secure funding for its next project which would have marked a return to the creators' post-apocalyptic roots, but was ultimately unsuccessful. The company was forced to lay off its employees in late 2024 and shut down for good on February 24, 2005. As for VtM - Bloodlines, over time, it became even more of a cult classic, ultimately leading to the development of a sequel (which had even more problems than the original, though). Bloodlines 2 is currently scheduled for the first half of 2025, but in the meantime, you can download the freshly released RTX Remix Alpha 0.0.1 mod to celebrate the 20th anniversary. NVIDIA's remastering tool brings the visuals into 2024 with the power of remastered assets and path tracing, although of course, there are caveats. Only a small portion of the game has been fully remastered, and there are many bugs, which is in keeping with the game's tradition. What's in this release: -The Haven Apartments in Santa Monica. Full texture and model remaster proof of concept! Every prop and texture in the actual apartment rooms themselves, including the players room and adjacent 2 enterable apartments! Though at the 11th hour a few of them stopped displaying correctly... 99% of models are replaced with from scratch built models and retextured built to the proportions of the original assets. 99% of Textures inside the pawnshop apartment areas have been retextured using hi poly meshes for initial bakes for shape and normal info, then retextured using Substance Designer and Toolbag 4/5's texturing suite. -A rough emissive and lighting pass on the rest of the game VtM: Bloodlines uses the alpha channel as an emissive mask for many textures in the game. I did a rough pass of converting these to emissive maps and applying them to their corresponding textures. So now the things that should light up, should light up. (And some that shouldn't!) These emissive maps will get replaced when I remaster the individual textures fully. Link

Australian lawmakers have voted to censure an Aboriginal senator who heckled King Charles during his visit to Canberra last month, to express their "profound disapproval" of her protest. Lidia Thorpe shouted "you are not my King" and "this is not your land" shortly after the King addressed the Great Hall of Parliament, in an effort to highlight the impacts of British colonisation. The Senate's censure, which passed 46-12, described Thorpe's actions as "disrespectful and disruptive" and said they should disqualify her from representing the chamber as a member of any delegation. A censure motion is politically symbolic but carries no constitutional or legal weight. hortly after the Senate vote on Monday, Thorpe told reporters she had been denied her right to respond in the chamber due to a flight delay. "The British Crown committed heinous crimes against the first peoples of this country... I will not be silent," the independent senator said. Her protest last month drew immediate ire from across the political aisle, as well as from some prominent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders. But it also drew praise from some activists who argued that it highlighted the plight of Australia's first inhabitants, who endured colonial violence and still face acute disadvantages in terms of health, wealth, education, and life expectancy compared to non-Indigenous Australians. Despite the protest, the King was warmly greeted by Australian crowds during his five-day tour alongside Queen Camilla. “You have shown great respect for Australians, even during times when we have debated the future of our own constitutional arrangements and the nature of our relationship with the crown. Nothing stands still," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in an official address. Thorpe has a history of Indigenous activism which has, at times, grabbed global headlines. During her swearing in ceremony in 2022, the Gunnai, Gunditjmara and Djab Wurrung woman referred to the Queen Elizabeth II as a coloniser - and was asked to retake her oath after facing criticism. Last year, Australia decisively rejected a proposal to grant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people constitutional recognition and allow them to establish a body to advise parliament on issues impacting their communities. The referendum - known as the Voice - became ensnared in a bruising campaign, and both sides of politics have sought to move on swiftly, leaving uncertainty over future policy. While the data suggests a majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people voted 'Yes', support wasn’t unanimous. Thorpe herself was a leading ‘No’ campaigner, having criticised the measure as tokenistic. Australian senator censured for heckling King

We knew we’d be seeing the Google Pixel Fold at Google I/O 2023, and now the company's Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 rival has been officially announced as part of Google’s keynote. You can head over to our Google I/O 2023 live blog for news on all the other announcements, including the Pixel 7a and Pixel Tablet, but as for Google's first foldable phone, the company has revealed that this key rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a Tensor G2 chipset, just like the Pixel 7 line, along with 12GB of RAM, and a choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage. This is also apparently the thinnest foldable on the market at 12.1mm thick. In fact, when unfolded it's also the thinnest Pixel model, coming in at just 5.8mm. It has a 7.6-inch foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 5.8-inch FHD+ cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an IPX8 rating for water resistance, and Gorilla Glass Victus to protect it from scrapes and falls. The best cameras on a foldable The Google Pixel Fold also has a triple-lens camera on the back, which Google claims is the best foldable camera system. This includes a 48MP main camera, a 10.8MP telephoto snapper with 5x optical zoom, and a 10.8MP ultra-wide snapper. There's also a 9.5MP camera on the front, and an 8MP camera on the inside. As for the battery, that's a 4,821mAh one, offering over 24 hours of life, and up to 72 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. It charges back up at 30W. And the software is built for foldables, with new features like a dual screen interpreter mode, so when translating speech to another language, both the speaker and the listener can see a screen with the translation on it. Of course, there's a split-screen mode too, so you can make the most of that large inner screen, and there's tabletop mode, which lets you fold the display in half so it can sit on a table like a laptop, with the vertical screen showing the video while the horizontal section shows video controls. You can pre-order the Pixel Fold from today in the US and UK (though there's no word on Australia), and it ships next month. Prices start at $1,799 / £1,749 (around AU$2,655), and if you pre-order then you'll get a Pixel Watch thrown in free. That price is in line with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, so it will be interesting to see whether the Pixel Fold can match what's arguably the best foldable phone. Link

Tokyo-based game developer Game Freak, widely known to gamers for its work on the Pokémon series, announced a partnership with publisher Private Division on a new action/adventure IP. Codenamed Project Bloom, the new game appears to be targeting a more mature audience than the studio's previous titles, if the concept art is any indication. It is currently in early development and scheduled to be released sometime in fiscal year 2026. Kota Furushima, Director at Game Freak, said in a statement: We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to create new IP that is bold and tonally different from our prior work. From the beginning, Private Division was the publisher we wanted to work with on our new game. Their track record and global expertise give us all the confidence to create a sweeping new action-adventure game that we can’t wait to share more about in the future. Michael Worosz, Chief Strategy Officer at Take-Two Interactive and Head of Private Division, added: Over the past three decades, you’d be hard pressed to find a studio which has released more iconic hits than Game Freak. We’re ready to help Game Freak unleash their potential and we’re honored to be the first Western publisher to work alongside this exceptionally talented and proven team to bring a bold new IP to market. Beyond Pokémon games like Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, and Scarlet and Violet, Game Freak also released the roleplaying game Little Town Hero in 2019. However, the game didn't fare nearly as well as their main franchise, receiving mixed reviews. In Wccftech's, Nathan Birch rated Little Town Hero 6.5 out of 10. Here's an excerpt of what he thought about it: Game Freak’s latest side thing is Little Town Hero, an adventure that takes place entirely in your standard humble village so many JRPGs start off in. As with most Game Freak titles, Little Town Hero has a fairly simple and predictable story, but isn’t without its charms. Most of the game’s characters are likable, and it’s interesting to see Game Freak break free of their usual E-rated box (this game is rated T and features drinking, smoking, and some surprisingly freaky monster designs). That said, the story can get a bit repetitive – carrying on a Pokemon tradition, Axe has a rival in the game, who you end up fighting at least seven or eight times before the game is over. Your rival isn’t a terrible character, but the way they use him is overkill. [...] As you may have picked up on, I’m a bit split on Little Town Hero. The game’s issues are hard to overlook, and yet, I still happily gobbled up the game’s 10-to-12-hour story in only a couple days. For all the game’s shortcomings, I still found it strangely compelling, although I realize I might be an outlier. For many, if not the majority, or players, a little of this game will likely go a long way. As for Private Division, they've had a quiet couple of years except for the releases of OlliOlli World, Rollerdrome, and Kerbal Space Program 2, though the latter game wasn't that well received in its early access debut. Still, they have an interesting lineup beyond the newly announced Game Freak game. They'll publish a Middle-earth game in development at Wētā Workshop, a survival horror title from Bloober Team, and the ambitious next game from Ori developer Moon Studios, among others. Link
