In novels, fantasy movies, and games like Dungeon & Dragons, the humble village tavern is frequently the locale where grand adventures begins. Most fantasy tabletop RPG stories swiftly leave the tavern behind in favor of more perilous locales, but these games place taverns and their stalwart custodians at the heart of their narratives. A good number of tabletop RPG campaigns begin with the DM or game master saying, "You all meet in a tavern" - or, at least, that's how the stereotype goes. Other stereotypical tavern-centric RPG tropes include the bard flirting with the wait staff, the rogue picking everyone's pockets, the barbarian getting black-out drunk, and brawls breaking out at the slightest of provocations. Modern-day fantasy writers and GMs generally try to avoid "tavern openings" in their stories, but the image of a rustic tavern filled with light and laughter is as much an icon of Western fantasy as spaceships are to science fiction. The following tabletop RPGs, each focused on the challenges and foibles of running a fantasy tavern, are thematically similar to the Star Trek: Lower Decks spin-off series; rather than telling the stories of brave heroes saving the world, these RPGs focus on the small, yet meaningful, stories that play out in the backgrounds of epic fantasy narratives - people providing meals, brews, and beds for the mysterious strangers passing through their towns and going on small adventures of their own to protect what they've built in their neck of the woods. Stewpot: Tales From A Fantasy Tavern Stewpot: Tales From A Fantasy Tavern is a narrative RPG by Takuma Okada, creator of journal games and experimental RPGs like Alone Among The Stars. Set in a classic world of fantasy adventure, Stewpot: Tales From A Fantasy Tavern is about retired fantasy heroes who settle down to run a tavern of their own in a tranquil community, each player taking on a specific responsibility in the tavern. Mechanically, Stewpot is composed of 14 different story games, each with unique rules players use to figure out how they settle tavern brawls, help people in their town, serve food for special guests, or share their hard-earned wisdom with new adventurers starting out. The Broken Cask The Broken Cask is a solo tabletop roleplaying game about someone starting up and managing a tavern in a fantasy world. Unlike Stewpot: Tales From A Fantasy Tavern, The Broken Cask focuses more on the entrepreneurial side of running a tavern, with the player hiring staff, building new rooms, serving up new signature dishes and brews, and then tackling an assortment of challenges randomly generated via a dice table. Ugly Gryphon Inn Ugly Gryphon Inn, similarly to The Broken Cask, is a solo tabletop game about running a fantasy inn straight out of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting. In contrast to the solid rulebook and dice tables of The Broken Cask, Ugly Gryphon Inn uses playing cards to represent different fantasy hero guests who visit the player's inn. The goal is to keep guests from leaving the inn by making sure their needs and desires are satisfied, both in their rooms and in the public tavern. As described by Dicebreaker, each "Guest Card" lists specific desires of said guest, ranging from food and drink to entertainment or the chance to sleep uninterrupted.

"YOU have breast cancer". Those words coming from a surgeon left me speechless and cold sweat was dripping from my forehead. The sternness of his voice gave me the message that it was real. The world was in total darkness and I could feel death knocking at my door. What am I going to do? Nevertheless, my husband was my pillar of strength in the journey towards recovery. Close family members provided the much-needed emotional support to fight this life-threatening disease. Strong willpower, commitment and determination to recover at soon as possible to take care of my family was my immediate concern. I felt that a half-hearted patient will never ever see light at the end of the tunnel. YOU MAY ALSO LIKE ISG a key cog in MAHB airport network amid pandemic Pursuing human wellbeing - key to post-COVID-19 recovery success National vaccination programme key to economic, financial recovery, say economists Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination success key to economic recovery: APIB Acceptance of the disease by the patient herself is by itself a colossal task. This is where the husband, close family members and close friends play an important role to convince the patient. Emotional support from the above group is of utmost importance. However, this group may "fail" to convince the patient that she can recover and control the disease. Who then can convince and give her confidence that she may recover? This is where fellow "comrades" (long-term survivors in remission) can help calm the nerves of these helpless souls. Sharing sessions among old and new patients are effective in creating a calm, supportive and relaxing atmosphere to restore the self-confidence of the newly diagnosed patients. Breast cancer associations are of great value at this juncture. Truth be told, a new patient will definitely listen and trust a survivor's advice compared to her mother or sister because a long-term survivor has gone through a similar experience and "passed the test". Generally, there are five steps to deal with cancer. Firstly, adhere to the specialist's advice and never defer treatments. Our main objective is to kill cancer cells. However, you may consider alternative therapies upon completion of the treatment. Next, change your lifestyle in terms of food intake. You have to bid farewell to your favourite food. Abstain from consuming fast food, processed meat like burgers, sausages, canned food or fruits and carbonated drinks. Replace them with fresh fruits, vegetables and ulam (raw vegetables). Choose fish and skinless chicken, preferably ayam kampung. Thirdly, according to Western and Eastern theorists, a highly oxygenated body can help to kill or at the very least control the growth of cancer cells. Breast cancer patients should practise special breathing techniques such as those prescribed by Guolin Qigong so that more oxygen is inhaled in every breath. To learn these useful techniques you can contact the Guolin Qigong Association of Malaysia. Next, after having done our level best to control the disease, we can only surrender to the Almighty. Being close to the Almighty can give a lot of calmness and security that He is "listening" to you. Never miss your prayers. Thanks to the Almighty that I have successfully controlled my breast cancer for 26 years. My mission is to encourage newly diagnosed breast cancer patients to follow the above-mentioned steps. Lastly, a breast cancer patient undergoes severe stress and emotional trauma to accept the disease itself. Some display "Disease Denial Symptom", which means that whatever is told by the specialist is false. The patient is in denial. As such, bear in mind that we need a strong commitment and willpower to change our entire lifestyle and to surrender to the Almighty. Believe me, there is always a reward for every sacrifice. From the beginning, my mission is to inspire my new "friends" to address their pertinent issues related to recovery and move on to a normal life.

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland Saturday called on Israel and Palestine to avoid escalation in East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. "I condemn all such acts of violence, and I reiterate my call upon all sides to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan," he said in a press statement sent to Xinhua. Over the past two days, violent clashes broke out in East Jerusalem between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli police forces during their protests against assaults of extreme Israeli groups in the city. In support of the protests in East Jerusalem, militant groups, including the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), fired a barrage of more than 35 rockets and projectiles from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israel. Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses said Israeli fighter jets struck early Saturday military posts and facilities that belong to militant groups in Gaza in response to the rockets fire. "I am alarmed by the recent escalations in Jerusalem and around Gaza," Wennesland said. "The provocative acts across Jerusalem must cease and the launch of rockets toward Israeli po[CENSORED]tion centers must stop."

The 3D Systems additive manufacturing technology that is available in the UK from the Engineering Technology Group (ETG) has now been enhanced with the release of 3D Sprint 3.0. The exclusive new software technology for preparing and optimising CAD & polygon data and managing the additive manufacturing process on the 3D System’s plastic 3D printers offers significant enhancements over previous versions, the company states. Introduced to the marketplace in December, the 3D Sprint 3.0 software includes key new features and enhancements that bring new value to users, with a special focus on capabilities that support the move from rapid prototyping to serial production. The software solution has been lauded for its ability to perform as a single software application that takes the user from CAD to print with increased efficiency and optimised data management that streamlines the time to print parts with a single, easy-to-use interface. The 3D Sprint 3.0 software has several general enhancements that include the ability to import industry-standard 3MF format files, a new tool to space and align parts on the build platform and the ability to delete sub-parts and reset parts to their original size and position. Further improvements include more detailed and data-rich reporting and the ability to separate parts in random colour for easier identification. With the 3D Systems Multijet Printing (MJP) line that is available from ETG, the 3D Sprint 3.0 software provides the end-user with the ability to auto-place parts by height for better quality and print speed whilst also providing the facility to include more parts on the build tray. The 3D Systems MJP Series also benefits from the new scale and offset Wizard that can calibrate the printer and deliver parts that are more precise than ever before. Also in the ETG portfolio is the Figure 4 Series of 3D printers and for this product line, the new 3D Sprint 3.0 software provides the ability to add struts to reinforce supports as well as introducing improved printability checks. With regards to the Projet 6000 and Projet 7000 Series of additive machines in the 3D Systems Stereolithography (SLA) Series, customers can now benefit from new support structure options to improve the print success rate, part quality and enable easier post-processing whilst using less material. Additionally, the new software platform provides more build style flexibility and it enables users to copy build styles from one part/region to another.

The founder of a po[CENSORED]r crypto exchange in Turkey has disappeared, with media reports indicating that he has fled the country with $2 billion as roughly 300,000 frustrated users have suddenly lost access to their accounts. In Turkey, the national currency lira has been in a secular decline for nine consecutive years, urging people to take some risks in a bid to protect their savings and maybe even earn something. As a result, the recent rise of cryptocurrencies predictably attracted many investors who hoped to protect their money and possibly gain some more. But things did not go well for them as Thodex, one of the country's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, went bust. Governments cannot control cryptocurrencies. As a result, they can quickly rise to an all-time high (or rapidly drop), making them a particularly attractive investment instrument — especially for those willing to take a risk. In Turkey, anyone can establish a crypto exchange with just 50,000 liras (about $6,000) in capital, reports Bloomberg. As a consequence, crypto exchanges are often run by people without proper financial education and serving unqualified investors that do not understand all of the risks. Thodex was one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Turkey with 700,000 users, many lured in by an introductory offer of 'millions' of free Dogecoins. Apparently, most of those Dogecoins were never distributed. To make matters worse, media reports say that as many as 391,000 users have now suddenly lost access to their accounts. Following the reports, Thodex "temporarily" closed the platform to address an "abnormal fluctuation in the company accounts." Meanwhile, Faruk Fatih Ozer, the founder of Thodex, has flown to Albania, taking $2 billion of investors' money with him, reports CNBC (citing local Turkish media). As one would expect, the Turkish Justice Ministry is seeking a so-called "red notice" with Interpol to arrest Ozer. Thodex denies all the allegations and says that the problem impacts 'only' 30,000 of its clients. The company further states that the inaccurate media reporting has ruined its reputation, making it impossible to continue operations. "The allegations that [accounts of] 391,000 people disappeared after a loss of approximately $2 billion, which was [reported] to the public on 22.04.2021, are unfounded," a statement by Thodex reads. "It is necessary to make this statement in order to respond urgently to these claims that go beyond the limits of honesty and conscience." The founder of Thodex vows to return investors' money but hasn't revealed how and when he plans to do it. Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the investors said the money had become "irretrievable," according to Bloomberg.

Grand Theft Auto 5's heists are often considered to be the best missions in the game. Here are three non-heist missions that are equally fun. Grand Theft Auto 5 is brimming with high-octane missions that Rockstar Games liberally scattered throughout the virtual city of Los Santos. GTA 5's heists are often regarded as the most chaotic and devilishly fun quests that give players several ways to tackle increasingly daring, Mission Impossible-style robberies. While these grand larcenies have become some of the game's most memorable moments, there are countless other side quests and story missions that are equally as thrilling. Rockstar designed Los Santos to be a living and breathing world that will constantly surprise players no matter how many times they've returned to the bustling cityscape. GTA 5 is home to a treasure trove of secrets and Easter eggs that gamers could spend months trying to find. Those hidden gems are complemented by a massive roster of can't-miss minor missions and heart-pumping storylines that are every bit as exhilarating as the game's heists. Rockstar lets players do everything from solving a cold murder case to fending off a swarm of alien attackers and getting roped into a shady battle between two government agencies. Every square foot of Los Santos is full of colorfully chaotic characters and unexpected events that have made GTA 5 one of the most memorable open-world adventures in recent memory. Here are three of the most exciting game missions that aren't heists. [Warning: Grand Theft Auto 5 spoilers below.] GTA 5 Best Non-Heist Missions: Grass Roots In the game, GTA 5 protagonists - Michael, Trevor, and Franklin - will all receive a Strangers and Freaks side mission, called Grass Roots, at different points of the story. A marijuana legalization activist named Barry will offer the characters a sample of his special strain of weed that has a distinct effect on Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. Both Michael and Trevor are thrown into a hallucination-induced rage that requires Michael to spray down alien invaders with a minigun, while Trevor assaults an army of clowns with a shotgun. On the other hand, Franklin isn't affected by Barry's grass and is instead asked to complete a favor for him. The Strangers and Freaks side missions are supposed to keep players guessing what outlandish characters Rockstar will introduce players to next. Grass Roots is particularly special because it results in a thrilling mini-game for Michael and Trevor, and it gives hilarious insight into the characters' reaction to marijuana and some of their irrational fears. It features subtle storytelling, exciting gunplay, and side-splitting interactions with Barry. GTA 5 Best Non-Heist Missions: Three's Company While the Grass Roots quests feature a dedicated story snippet for Michael, Trevor, and Franklin, Three's Company is the first GTA 5 mission that sees the trio collaborate as a unit. The Federal Investigation Bureau coerces Michael into extracting a person of interest from the International Affairs Agency's skyscraper headquarters, which Michael accomplishes with the help of Trevor and Franklin. Trevor pilots the helicopter that lets Michael break into the 36th floor of the IAA building, while Franklin provides support and cover with a sniper rifle from atop a neighboring building. Three's Company is the precursor to GTA 5's heists and serves as an exciting tutorial of how the game's protagonists will work together to accomplish even more dangerous robberies. Switching between perspectives and timing Michael's entrance and escape for the first time is an addictive thrill ride that will have newcomers glued to their screens. It's also a key moment in the story that unlocks the ability to freely swap between Michael, Trevor, and Franklin at any point while exploring Los Santos and leading into GTA 5's controversial torture scene. GTA 5 Best Non-Heist Missions: The Wrap Up Three's Company introduced players to the clash between the FIB and IAA, and The Wrap Up is GTA 5's climax to the rivalry between both agencies. Michael meets his FIB contact Dave Norton for a debrief, but the meeting quickly turns into a standoff when Dave is betrayed by his partner that attempts to arrest him and Michael. The IAA and the mercenary group Merryweather also show up when tensions are high, which results in an all-out firefight that players need to navigate using primarily Michael, with Trevor making an unexpected appearance later in the missions. The main story quest is an unforgettable moment of sheer mayhem that is one of GTA 5's most exciting firefights. To top it off, The Wrap Up also sows distrust among the game's three protagonists, which eventually leads to players having to make one of three decisions of how to end Grand Theft Auto 5.

For the past 20 years UK Post Office employees have been dealing with a piece of software called Horizon, which had a fatal flaw: bugs that made it look like employees stole tens of thousands of British pounds. This led to some local postmasters being convicted of crimes, even being sent to prison, because the Post Office doggedly insisted the software could be trusted. After fighting for decades, 39 people are finally having their convictions overturned, after what is reportedly the largest miscarriage of justice that the UK has ever seen. The impact on these employees has been vast: according to the BBC, some have lost marriages or time with their children. Talking to the BBC, Janet Skinner said that she was taken away from her two kids for nine months when she was imprisoned, after the software showed a £59,000 shortfall. She also says she lost a job offer because of her criminal conviction. The time she and others like her spent in jail can’t be bought back, and it happened because software was taken at its word. According to the BBC, another woman, who swore she was innocent, was sent to prison for theft while she was pregnant. One man reportedly died by suicide after the computer system showed that he had lost almost £100,000. Within a few months, his replacement also faced losses due to discrepancies from the software. THE UK’S PRIME MINISTER WEIGHED IN, CALLING THE ORIGINAL CONVICTIONS “AN APPALLING INJUSTICE” Horizon was made by Japanese company Fujitsu, and information from it was used to prosecute 736 Post Office employees between 2000 and 2014, some of whom ended up going to jail. Bugs in the system would cause it to report that accounts that were under the employees’ control were short — the BBC has reported that some employees even tried to close the gap by remortgaging their homes, or using their own money. It does seem like the nightmare for the employees may be coming to an end. The 39 who had their convictions overturned are following another six who were cleared of wrongdoing back in December. The Post Office has also been working on financially compensating other employees who were caught up by the software. In 2019 the Post Office settled with 555 claimants and paid damages to them, and it’s also set up a system to repay other affected employees. So far, according to the BBC, more than 2,400 claims have been made. Earlier this month the chief executive of the Post Office said that Horizon would be replaced with a new, cloud-based solution. In the same speech, he said that the Post Office would work with the government to compensate the employees who were affected by Horizon’s inaccuracies. The UK’s prime minister Boris Johnson also weighed in today, calling the original convictions “an appalling injustice.” Some employees seem happy with just a monetary settlement and their names being cleared. But there is also now a campaign group calling for a full public inquiry, and some of the people whose names were cleared today have called for those in charge to be held responsible. The BBC reported that the Post Office argued the errors couldn’t have been be the fault of the computer system — despite knowing that wasn’t true. There is evidence that the Post Office’s legal department was aware that the software could produce inaccurate results, even before some of the convictions were made. According to the BBC, one of the representatives for the Post Office workers said that the post office “readily accepted the loss of life, liberty and sanity for many ordinary people” in its “pursuit of reputation and profit.”

The Animal Crossing series began 20 years ago and has since produced five versions of the main game, and a handful of spin-offs as well. The most recent iteration is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is an island-based life simulation game. New Horizons recently received two huge item crossovers in the form of Mario items, and Sanrio amiibo cards. This seems to be a trend for Nintendo, so what other crossovers have the Animal Crossing games seen through the years? Nintendo has been putting references to their other games in Animal Crossing since the original. In Dobutso no Mori (the very first game in the series, released only in Japan) when players inspected a cabinet they would sometimes be greeted with the message "You found 100 Rupees! But you can't use them here." This, and other references to the Zelda games were still kept when the enhanced version was translated and released internationally. The tradition still continues, as players can find Zelda items in other Animal Crossing games as well. In all of the mainline Animal Crossing games, Mario items can be found. Though depending on the game, the way in which they are obtained changes. For example, in Animal Crossing: City Folk they only appear in game via the floating presents that players can shoot down with the slingshot tool. The Mario items in Animal Crossing are unique from others in-game, as they keep their 8-bit styles and shading. These retro items come with their own lighting mechanics and do not respond to the lighting in the room like other items. Animal Crossing's Biggest Crossovers Explained The Hello Kitty collection of items first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf as part of the Welcome amiibo update, in which players could purchase amiibo and use them to summon villagers and other characters to their town. The player would talk to Wisp, a ghost friend that would magically turn into whichever character's amiibo was tapped on the 3DS. The character would then show up in their own RV and players could either invite them to live in their town, or get items from them that were themed after that villager. The Hello Kitty items were available only through Rilla's RV, who is a gorilla-villager sporting the signature Hello Kitty red bow. The Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo update gave players access to a whole new set of characters that were not in previous Animal Crossing games. Because amiibo figures are a supported feature for many Nintendo games now, there are several instances of amiibo being designed for one game, but working with others. This includes amiibo that are designed for Super Smash Bros, being compatible with Animal Crossing: New Leaf. This gave players the option to summon villagers that were designed after Splatoon characters and even Zelda-themed villagers. Other more subtle cameos include Louie, a gorilla-villager who resembles Donkey Kong and wears a shirt referencing Luigi, as well as a few dialogue options with NPCs. The most notable of these is Gulliver, who has a few references to other games when players speak to him. One dialogue option with Gulliver in Animal Crossing: Wild World involves him asking the player if they have seen a space fox or a bounty hunter that can roll into a ball, which are references to Star Fox and Samus of Metroid. Animal Crossing has had some truly memorable crossovers through the years, and it will be interested to see what new ones may happen next.

RAMALLAH, Palestine The foreign minister of Palestine said on Wednesday that his country was mulling whether to ask the UN Security Council to issue a resolution allowing Palestinians to hold elections in Jerusalem. Speaking to Palestine's official radio broadcaster, Riyad al-Maliki said "contacts continue with the International Quartet [US, EU, UN and Russia] and a number of foreign ministers in the world to pressure on Israel not to hinder conducting the elections especially in Jerusalem." Al-Maliki described plans to hold Palestinian elections in Jerusalem as "an issue of great importance," adding that the international community did not abide by its commitment to pressure Israel to allow the ballot in the city. An interim agreement signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel on Sept. 28, 1995, included an article allowing Palestinian residents to cast their votes in Israeli post offices. On Sunday, a member of the ruling Fatah group's central committee, Hussein al-Sheikh, said the Palestinian Authority had made an official request to Israel two months ago to allow the elections in Jerusalem, but "there had been no response so far from Tel Aviv." Palestinians residing in East Jerusalem took part in previous elections conducted in 1996, 2005, and 2006. They voted in six Israeli postal centers set up in the city. The votes were then sent by mail to the Palestinian Central Elections Commission. International law views both the West Bank and East Jerusalem as occupied territories and considers all Israeli settlement-building activity there illegal. Palestinians are set to elect a new legislature on May 22 and a president on July 31 after a gap of 15 years. *Ahmed Asmar in Ankara contributed to this report from Ankara

As data pervades all aspects of our lives, we are moving into an era that can only be described as software defined everything (SDE), where the value within data networks shifts decisively from hardware to software. For the users, it means that the hardware—server, storage, or network—is no longer provisioned manually by IT staff. Technology Trends Listed below are the key technology trends impacting the software defined everything (SDE) theme, as identified by GlobalData. 5G 5G deployments are capital intensive compared to earlier mobile generations. The use of often higher frequency spectrum bands and expected increases in both data volumes and connected devices require significant network densification through small cells. Software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualisation (NFV) bring cost savings and improved operational efficiency for operators. These technologies are key elements of 5G implementation and are already being deployed by many operators. Commodity hardware Traditionally, data centre hardware was specialised and operated on closed, proprietary standards. White box devices are generic, non-branded hardware and have increasingly replaced proprietary hardware in the data centre. They are developed by smaller manufacturers and are cheaper than their proprietary counterparts. They may come pre-loaded with open-source software or may be sold as a bare metal device. Merchant silicon or off-the-shelf chips replace custom silicon in data centres. Custom silicon, usually ASICs (application-specific integrated circuits), is designed by the company selling the switches in which they are used. Open source Traditional networking infrastructure was controlled by proprietary software running on proprietary hardware. SDN decouples the software layer from the underlying hardware and allows the use of open standards. This has resulted in the rise of open source network controller software. Unlike proprietary software, anyone can modify and enhance open source software (OSS). OpenFlow was the pioneer in open source SDN and was adopted by many telecom operators and cloud providers. This was followed by the launch of the Open Networking Lab (ON.Lab), which released the Open Network Operating System (ONOS) source code (SDN controller) to the open source community. Security In principle, software defined architecture provides a means to automate virtual security measures for the data centre. The security functions, such as firewalling and intrusion detection, are decoupled from the proprietary hardware. This allows the data centre administrators to update and manage security from a central point using software tools. Where compliance with local regulations is a factor, appropriate security protocols can be applied specifically to the appropriate sensitive data as required. SD-WAN Wide area networks (WAN) are rarely cloud-friendly. Many branch offices often do not directly connect to a cloud service but are routed to headquarters first. This leads to latencies that impair the performance of in-branch cloud-based applications. SD-WAN is based on a centralised software control function that securely and intelligently directs WAN traffic. It optimises the connections between geographically distributed locations to reduce latencies and improve software performance. Intent-based networks (IBNs) IBNs are SDNs where the software can make real-time decisions and implement changes to the network. The concept is that humans tell a network an intent and the network software figures out what action is needed to fulfil that intent. The IBN relies on machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to fulfil the intents. Once the intent has been defined, IBNs, guided by AI frameworks, continuously self-monitor and automatically fix problems or achieve real-time results. AI SDN architecture automates network configuration and management, but it is still based on static code. It takes the predefined hard-coded commands to take action. SDN benefits from the use of AI and ML, which provides the software with learning and decision-making abilities. The AI-based SDN effectively solves the problem on the machine end and reduces the need for human intervention. At the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC), Telefonica showed its framework for intelligent connectivity. Hyperscale internet data centres Hyperscale data centres run more than 100,000 servers and are linked through high-speed fibre-optic networks. The cloud providers and internet giants, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Facebook, have been bringing hyperscale data centres on stream over the last few years. As software is detached from hardware in an software defined data centre (SDDC), it allows these companies to remove expensive proprietary data centre hardware providers like HPE, Dell, and Cisco. Cloud SDNs have become an integral part of cloud-based IT (information technology) infrastructure. As enterprises increasingly embrace cloud services, SDN provides a centralised way to manage data and workload between distributed locations. The new SDN offerings are not only for private data centres but are integrated with public clouds. For example, the SDN controller of Cisco’s Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) uses native APIs offered by public cloud providers and integrates with them. Silicon photonics Silicon photonics is an emerging technology that combines laser and silicon technology on the same chip. It allows data to be transferred between computer chips by optical rays, which can carry far more data over longer distances in less time than the electrical conductors traditionally. This supports faster interconnects between data centres. Photonic chip technology is still in the research phase. The costs of manufacturing silicon integrated circuits with embedded photonic elements have held back progress in the technology. Intel has emerged as a leader and has demoed its 400G silicon photonics transceiver at its Interconnect Day event in 2019. At the same time, Cisco exhibited its silicon photonics platform at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference.

Many safety-critical areas of our lives are being controlled by computer systems: from airbag controls in cars and landing gear on airplanes to essential infrastructure such as energy supply and telecommunications. But are these systems reliable? Computer science professor Jan Reineke of Saarland University thinks not - because a crucial component of today's computer systems renders the development of safe and secure IT applications impossible at a fundamental level. To change this and to improve the interaction between hardware and software, the computer scientist is now being funded through an ERC Advanced Grant with around 2.5 million euros over five years. Jan Reineke's current project addresses the interaction between hardware and software. In order for software to be executed, it must first be translated from the higher-level programming language in which it was written by a programmer into a language that the hardware understands. It is this machine language, the so-called instruction set architecture, that Jan Reineke is focusing on in his research. The instruction set architecture is the interface between hardware and software. It can be thought of as a contract that regulates the interaction of the two components. Accordingly, another name for it is Hardware-Software Contracts. "These 'contracts' provide guarantees about how the machine code is to be executed by the underlying hardware, the microarchitecture. But they also specify what the machine code must look like in order for the hardware to be able to understand it," the computer scientist adds. According to Reineke, current instruction set architectures have blind spots in two crucial areas: "First, they provide no guarantees whatsoever about how long software takes to execute. Second, they lack basic security guarantees against malicious attacks," says Reineke. The resulting problems have far-reaching implications: The lack of time guarantees is the reason why time-critical systems such as an airbag control system depend on complex but fundamentally inadequate computing models. Lack of security guarantees on the hardware side led, among other things, to the well-known security vulnerabilities 'Spectre' and 'Meltdown' at the beginning of 2018, which to this day affect almost all modern processors, regardless of whether they are in a PC, smartphone or a vehicle control system. "The goal now is to rethink from the ground up how this interface between software and hardware should be defined so that it is both efficient and secure," says computer scientist Reineke. Doing this, many other aspects have to be considered. On the one hand, the instruction set architecture must leave enough creative freedom for hardware developers; on the other hand, it should make the development of safe and secure software as simple as possible. The project, entitled "Abstractions for Safe and Secure Hardware-Software Systems", is funded by an "Advanced Grant" from the European Research Council (ERC) with around 2.5 million euros over five years. ERC Advanced Grants are among the most prestigious research awards worldwide. A total of 2678 projects were submitted for the current funding period, of which 209 were approved (about 8%). The research project described is the sixth ERC Advanced Grant and the 24th grant overall from the European Research Council, which has been granted for a project at the Saarland Informatics Campus. There, Jan Reineke is based in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University.

The po[CENSORED]r battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is apparently getting a sequel, as several leakers claim. According to a report by TechRadar, the rumored sequel to the massively po[CENSORED]r online battle royale game is currently in development at Krafton. Numerous leaks have been pointing to the existence of PUBG 2, though a few of the rumors originally seemed to suggest that it's not going to be a battle royale title like its predecessor. A boy plays PUBG at his home in Tehatta, Nadia, West Bengal, India on July 3, 2020. As Indians had to confine themselves to their homes due to the Coronavirus, many have turned to online games leading to a spike in app downloads and usage. India surfaced as the largest contributor in terms of the number of downloads for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG). (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto via Getty Images) Most of the details come from a series of tweets by a user with the handle PlayerIGN (not related to the gaming website of the same name), reports PCGamesN. According to the leaker, PUBG 2 is likely to be released next year, though no date was mentioned. These bits of information seem to coincide with the upcoming release of another Krafton game, PUBG: New State, which is a mobile-only title currently in pre-registration mode on the Google Play store. (Almost) Everyone Will Have a Crack at it PlayerIGN also reveals that "PUBG 2" supports cross-play, which means that both PC and console gamers will get to play together without any platform restrictions, reports GFinityEsports. If this info is true, then PC players can invite their console-playing friends to try and compete against each other for that coveted Chicken Dinner. One can assume that Krafton, one of the main proponents of the battle royale game genre during this console generation, is also planning to release the game on last-gen Xbox One and PS4. There's no word on a possible Nintendo Switch release yet. As for a mobile release, Krafton will possibly put out a sequel for PUBG Mobile, which despite being banned in India is still one of the most po[CENSORED]r games on Android and iOS. It Is Now Looking For An Indian Partner A Battle Royale Game Renaissance If you look around Steam or any other online game store, you'll tend to find a battle royale game in the "most po[CENSORED]r" list these days. And frankly, this is due to the first steps taken by a few game modders back in 2013. (Photo by Visual China Group via Getty Images/Visual China Group via Getty Images) That was the year that DayZ, a survival game that Digital Trends cites as among the first ones to tease the commercial and competitive potential of a battle royale game, released. Originally starting as a multiplayer mod for Arma 2, DayZ was one of the first to put players in a wide space where they have to forage for gear, all while competing with other players for said gear. As a result, the battle royale game genre was born, and boy, did it blow up. Following in the successful footsteps of PUBG, games such as Fortnite and Rules of Survival saw their share of massive player bases. Even the long-time AAA series Call of Duty joined in on the fray with their free-to-play title called Warzone, which is even making fans of long-time PUBG streamers like Dr. Disrespect, among others.

Insieme alle zone arancioni, a quelle rosse e a quelle bianche definiscono cosa è possibile fare e cosa invece viene vietato.

As presidents, prime ministers and premiers met for a virtual summit on Earth Day aimed at cutting carbon emissions, millions across the world are already trying to do their bit to make a difference to the environment. US President Joe Biden concluded the virtual summit with a pledge to cut his country's emissions to around half of 2005 levels and urged others to do the same. While most of us may not be able to make policy with the stroke of a pen, many are making changes to live a greener lifestyle. BBC News spoke to three people in Yorkshire who believe that action against climate change starts at home. In Leeds, Tamsin Constable, her partner and two teenage children have ditched the family car and now use other ways to get around. As well as saving money on insurance, fuel and other car-related costs, Ms Constable said the change, which has resulted in more walking and cycling, has improved the family's physical health and they now feel "less stress". "We just do not have to think about congestion and traffic jams, or where to park," she said. "We thought that not owning a car would be much more of a challenge than it's proved to be. "On balance, over the last 15 months it's going OK and the truth is we haven't really missed the car at all." The family still hires or borrows a car every couple of months and does bulk shopping, "working the wheels really hard". Ms Constable, who works for Leeds City Council promoting safe and sustainable transport, said ditching the car was made easier as the family lives in an area with good transport links and she appreciated "that everybody does not have that infrastructure". Presentational grey line 'Lovely to hear nothing' For many, the car is an essential part of the school run - but how many drivers switch off their engines at the school gates? Abi Thomas, from Bradford, puts leaflets on cars outside schools warning about the impact of pollution from idling vehicles. She was inspired to start her campaign because two of her children have asthma. "It's just a simple thing, really. Just trying to take a positive approach to helping people think a little bit more about the emissions from their cars," she said. Drivers had been "really positive" about the leaflets, she added. "One stopped me a couple of days after I'd given her a leaflet and said thank you so much and I really support what you're doing." Ms Thomas said she thought her campaign was having an impact: "My friend said to me in the morning as we walked down to the car park at school, 'It's so lovely to just hear nothing'. "You don't realise until all the engines are switched off what we're used to." Presentational grey line 'Gradual changes' Robert Gordon, from York, has cut down on his plastic use by stopping shopping at supermarkets and taking his own containers to refill at shops. Mr Gordon, who is a member of the Green Party, said that at first he tried to cut out all plastics, but found it "incredibly difficult". "Since then I've tried to aim for more realistic goals of only cutting down on non-recyclable plastic," he said. The 25-year-old said he was encouraged to see more and more people changing their shopping habits. "Sometimes there can be a big upfront cost, whether that's time or money," he said. "But by making changes gradually, for example when you need to replace your toothbrush replacing it with a bamboo one rather than a plastic one, then gradual changes like this over time can make the transition much more manageable and you're still having that positive environmental impact."

NEW YORK, Thursday, April 22, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine's Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, urged today the world countries to press Israel, the occupying power, not to block the upcoming Palestinian national elections in occupied East Jerusalem. Speaking before the UN Security Council's virtual session on the Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, he said the recent few days saw Israeli occupation forces briefly detain candidates for the Palestinian elections in occupied Jerusalem and banning them from holding a press conference to discuss the matter. "That there is an urgent need to ensure that Israel does not put obstacles in the way of the Palestinian elections," said Mansour, as he called upon international partners to overcome all difficulties and obstacles in the way to holding the elections, especially in East Jerusalem, the occupied capital of the State of Palestine. He added, "We have met all the requirements [for the elections], and there is full readiness to hold the elections that must include East Jerusalem according to the agreements signed, as was the case in the 2006 and 1996 elections." In the meantime, Mansour pointed out that the Palestinian people are suffering, like all peoples of the world, from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and said Palestine was grateful to the international community for its support to the Palestinian people during the pandemic. He said, "It would have been possible to alleviate the suffering had Israel lifted the restrictions imposed on the Palestinian territories and facilitated the entry of vaccines, instead of just providing vaccinations to workers and residents of East Jerusalem without paying attention to the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip." Mansour welcomed the recent report of the UN Secretary-General which affirms that settlement construction and expansion in the Palestinian land impede the establishment of the Palestinian state and the achievement of the two-state solution. He urged the International Quartet to support more positive steps in order to restore negotiations and ensure that the parties adhere to the principle of achieving peace and security. Mansour said that President Mahmoud Abbas' initiative on holding an international peace conference falls within the same framework. M.N
