With the console wars heating up, it is worth wondering where does Nintendo Switch stand in this war? As PlayStation and Microsoft duke it out over Call of Duty, Nintendo has been publishing platform exclusive after platform exclusive. The question that begs to be asked is how these games hold up? Let us dive into Pokemon Violet – the latest pokemon game – to get that answer. With decades of Pokémon experience, I was prepared to once again catch them all, but since I wanted to write a timely review. I decided to catch some, level up a few, and beat the storyline quickly. Campaign The story begins with your character attending his first day of school. The school’s director visits your home to apologize for not sending orientation documents. You’re then introduced to three different Pokémon: a fire type; a water type; a grass type. I went with the fire type crocodile, Fuecoco. (A strong choice for players, since he will be a dual-type Pokémon by the final evolution.) After picking your Pokémon, you are suddenly introduced to Arven, a character whose request will send you on a series of side missions. You then trot your way to the center of the map where the academy is conveniently located. Outside the campus is a bunch of bullies who you can choose to confront. They introduce themselves as Team Star. After familiarizing yourself with the campus, you go back to your dorm room and sleep. The next morning you attend a ceremony outside on the school grounds. The director tasks the students of the academy to find their treasure. The “treasure” will be found in three storylines. The first narrative is the typical path of Pokémon trainers, which is battling with Pokémon to become champion. The second is beating Team Star, but the storyline evolves into understanding why team exists in the first place. The third plot is finding magical herbs with Arven, which takes you across all parts of the region to find these herbs Verdict Pokémon Violet and Scarlet are must-have games for the Switch. This version of Pokémon is crafted perfectly for veteran and novice players. I appreciated that it was possible to gain experience points to level up Pokémon by having automatic battles with wild Pokémon and capturing new Pokémon. The storylines themselves were captivating as they were difficult. This meant that if you hope to beat the campaign, you will have to play all storylines and capture a good deal of Pokémon to get to the endgame. I would recommend this game to anyone with a Switch. However, if you are looking to play something a little more on the wild side, I have something in mind for you. Bayonetta 3 When I think of Nintendo exclusive games, Bayonetta is not the first franchise that comes to mind. I think of Pokémon or – something family friendly. Bayonetta 3 does not pretend to be that. (Although, if you want a more PG version, you can play in Naïve Angel Mode. I didn’t.) The game provided a vastly different experience that would change my perception of what is truly a Nintendo game. First, let me dive into the campaign. Campaign The campaign begins with playing an alternate version of Bayonetta. After button mashing for a little bit, Bayonetta is quickly defeated by the mysterious Singularity. This leads Bayonetta’s friend, Viola, to travel to an alternate universe. In the second universe, a second Bayonetta is introduced and quickly enters a battle against monsters dispatched by the main villain Singularity. Bayonetta is quickly joined by her friend Jeanne in combat to battle the monsters. Both Bayonetta and Jeanne retreat into Rodin’s bar. Rodin, the arms dealer from hell, then begins to explain that the monsters aren’t from supernatural plains of existence. Viola then introduces herself and explains where the monsters come from and the threat to their world posed by Singularity. Viola presents a solution to the second Bayonetta and Jeanne to find gears that can help defeat Singularity. The campaign ensues from there. Verdict The rest of the campaign is a hack and slash adventure that tests your ability to button-mash through some difficult challenges. As you traverse through bosses and hordes of minions, you will find Bayonetta has unique outfit choices. There is a better part of a level where Bayonetta wears a revealing swimsuit while dancing on a giant spider. This doesn’t detract from the multiverse plot which will keep you entertained, but I wouldn’t recommend this for younger audiences if you have an issue with nudity. I would buy this game if you were looking to play a mature Nintendo exclusive. With that said, why combine two reviews into one? It isn’t simply to make one of my managing editors, Brian, a happy camper so he can save on inches when publishing for the print version. It’s because these two games respectively demonstrate the complexity of Nintendo’s overall situation in the console war – which is waged largely between Xbox and Sony. While Xbox and Sony owners battle over the teraflops that their respective consoles display, Nintendo is fending for itself pretty well. Nintendo’s vitality comes from appealing to wide audiences with memorable characters and gameplay, which these games accomplish. Pokémon accomplishes that easily with its story, familiar gameplay, and constantly improving features. Bayonetta is truly for a unique audience and doesn’t fit the typical family friendly play that Nintendo generally offers. Yet Bayonetta proudly waves its banner as a Nintendo exclusive, regardless of first appearing on Xbox and PlayStation. As it stands, Bayonetta 3 is best known for its memorable characters. Bayonetta’s existence on the Switch is simply proof that the company is willing to go outside the realm of family friendly games to ensure that Nintendo appeals to its vast audience. In other words, you will find the qualities of a Nintendo exclusive in each, despite their differences. https://www.stripes.com/living/entertainment/video_games/2022-11-24/pokemon-violet-scarlet-bayonetta-3-review-8176430.html

It’s a Sunday – or at least feels like one. Waking up with a start, you realise you’ve fallen asleep in front of the TV. The dog barks impatiently for his dinner. Reluctantly, you leave your wife’s warm embrace, put your son to bed and drag up the dog chum from the basement. This is how developer Jumpship’s debut begins: not with a bang, but a yawn. It’s an endearingly intimate glimpse of country life, which, predictably, doesn’t last. As soon as you’ve dealt with your mutt’s mealtime, an explosion rocks your countryside abode. Running outside to survey the damage, you see glowing obelisks swarming the sky, their lasers destroying farmland. It’s all extremely HG Wells, and after a strange glowing lifeform knocks you unconscious, you’re mistaken for dead, setting the stage for a tense, solitary journey. Somerville is atmospheric, unashamedly British sci-fi. When films and games so often have us witnessing the apocalypse through American eyes, there’s something oddly comforting about how close to home this horror feels. From sprinting past hay bales and traversing fields ripped right out of a National Trust guide to climbing over dusty Fiat 500s on an abandoned A-road, this is an English armageddon. The regular reappearance of your loyal little terrier is a welcome sight amid the increasingly barren, death-strewn vision of the home you once knew. In true video game fashion, the aforementioned extraterrestrial encounter leaves you coursing with otherworldly electromagnetic abilities, which are useful for solving puzzles. With a squeeze of the left trigger, your bandaged arm becomes a Thanos-esque glaive, emitting a surge of environment-mani[CENSORED]ting electricity that can affect lightbulbs, fuse boxes, batteries and any other working wiring you stumble upon. Somerville tells its entire four-hour story without uttering a single word. Much like co-creator Dino Patti’s previous games, Limbo and Inside, Somerville communicates through expressive animations, quiet interactions and simple controls. From fleeing four-legged cuboids as you duck and weave through an eerily abandoned music festival, to hardening a river of plasma in order to seal off a flooding cave, its simple mechanics are used effectively. But I spent way too much time meandering around each new vignette, wrestling with the camera as Country Dad clumsily fumbled around near the one thing I wanted him to interact with. He walks painfully slowly, and fiddly movement is always an immersion-breaker. Much as in Breath of the Wild, music and subwoofer-bothering sound effects are employed sparingly. For long stretches of your perilous journey, your only audio accompaniments are the gentle patter of rain and the impatient huffs of your furry companion. When you are about to have a close encounter of the murderous kind, the sound makes you very much aware of it. This sense of quiet foreboding makes Somerville a decidedly wintry game. As the days grow shorter and the outside world becomes less inviting, this is an adventure built to be enjoyed in one rainy evening, ideally in a dimly lit room. Somerville is the only game that has ever had me hiding from aliens in a grimy festival Portaloo. Yet its last-ditch attempt at a galaxy-brain sci-fi ending lands with a disappointing thud. While its head-scratcher finale leaves you wishing its nonverbal narrative was a little more verbal, Somerville remains a masterclass in minimal storytelling; a series of memorable, haunting vignettes. https://www.theguardian.com/games/2022/nov/24/somerville-review-xbox-pc-jumpship

Dr Farooq Adil (IR Expert) There is no ethnical differences between both of the countries. Whether it is any meeting between the high officials or either a layman meets one another, there is no difference in their behaviour and attitude. We can totally rely on them in any terms, they are very helpful. Even the leaders of both countries are very much adjoined and have a brotherly relation among. As far as transfer of technologies is concerned, Turkiye has always provided assistance to Pakistan in any means possible. It is pertinent to mention here that the pact of these ships and its homework was done in the PML-N tenure under the leader ship of Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif, so the credit goes to them. It was a joint venture, where it was decided that 4 ships will be manufactured, out of which 2 were made at Karachi shipyard and the other 2 at Istanbul shipyard. The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Turkiye is like our second home and there are no differences in home. But, there is great worry in our enemies, especially India, as we can see that they are presenting false narratives and plotting several propagandas to create chaos in the region. Naila Chohan (Former Ambassador) It is a very welcoming development for the country, especially in terms of our defense system. There are no questions about the understanding of the countries. But, when we talk about ground realities, we don't see as much economic and trade cooperation as we see during the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This is the second visit of PM Shehbaz, during this year. His addresses in the business circles are very important. Earlier, they inaugurated PNS Babar and now PNS Khyber. It is a great development for both of the countries. A MoU was signed that 2 ships will be manufactured there and 2 will be made here. Turkiye is the member of NATO, OIC and UN, this is why it holds great importance and as we do have great relations with them, and so it will be very beneficial for us. Whereas, several agreements have been signed among both. Turkiye has even offered duty relief on 261 tariff lines. Another joint venture of Iran Turkiye and Pakistan, Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is also an example of our everlasting relations. It was decided that the offices will be established in different countries and training will be provided accordingly to the competent individuals. Therefore, this development is very fortunate for Pakistan in terms of strengthening our relations with Turkiye. With the grace of Almighty Allah, we'll see that these relations will touch its heights. Saleem Akhtar (Retd Rear Admiral Pak Navy) This is the most technological advanced surface platform in the Pakistan Navy. It has several features and state of the art weapons system fitted on it, so it will definitely augment the capability of the naval forces, to maintain peace and stability as well as power equilibrium in the Indian Ocean region. The addition of a platform of such a nature will enhance the capability of the Pakistan Navy. We look forward to the construction of those ships being manufactured in the Karachi shipyard. As the transfer of technologies is associated with this project. Whereas, the design and capabilities provided to the Pakistan Navy will definitely help us in the future, as such ships will then be manufactured by Pakistan itself. Basically, there was a time when a ship was made for a specific purpose. Nowadays, these are multi-dimensional ships equipped with multiple weapons systems. It can work against submarines, air defense systems, other missiles fitted on board and it is comparatively smaller than a destroyer. So, it's much cheaper and effective. Aslam Chandio (News Editor TRT World) Earlier today development preferential trade agreement was signed among Pakistan and Turkiye in Islamabad, between the Turkish Trade Minister and Pakistan's Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was also present there. It was a great step towards trade and economic cooperation, it was being said that in the near future it will lead to free trade agreement. The relations among both countries are headed there in terms of trade and economic cooperation. Today, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and PM Shehbaz jointly inaugurated the third Corvette ship. It is a great step for the defense system of Pakistan, it is also the example of great brotherly and historical relations among both. The PM Shehbaz, while addressing, also gave the reference of the cornerstone of friendship laid down in the 1920s. Turkiye has always helped us in our difficult times, whether it was the 2005 earthquake or the recent flash floods. They also talked about renewable energy. Where, electricity can be produced through wind and solar. He also invited more investors to Pakistan,4 in these renewable energy projects, as many already have invested in these projects. Recently, Turkiye has very much developed its strategic and defense system. If we look at these Corvette ships, these are domestically designed and produced ships. They also have domestically developed fighter drones and attack helicopters. So, if Pakistan and Turkiye will further assist each other, it will be a win-win situation for both. Both are deeply connected, in terms of people to people connection, political relations, trade and economic cooperation, etc. It is a great step from Turkiye, to become self-sufficient in developing its defense system. So, it is a great opportunity for Pakistan to further develop such cooperation. https://radio.gov.pk/25-11-2022/analysts-applaud-pakistan-turkiye-everlasting-bilateral-relations-especially-in-defense-economic-sectors

National Geographic, citing researchers at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, estimates there are between 50 billion and 430 billion birds po[CENSORED]ting the planet, outnumbering humans by up to approximately 50 times. Spread across 9,700 species, according to the Proceedings of the Natural Academy of Sciences, it's a challenge to spend a day outside without encountering dozens or even hundreds of them. Are birds mammals? No, birds are not mammals. Rather, they are avians. Mammals are characterized by their milk glands, hair, vertebrae and their birthing of live young (being viviparous), according to Britannica. Additionally, mammals are warm-blooded, says WorldAtlas. Similar to mammals, birds “are warm-blooded, breathe air, and possess vertebrae” as noted by AZ Animals. A key difference between the avian bird and mammals is the birthing process: birds lay eggs. Mammals nearly exclusively birth live young, with some exceptions, including platypuses. Birds also possess feathers, rather than mammalian hair. AZ Animals says although some birds may have hair bristles on or around their head, they are feathered animals. While mammals feed their young milk from their mammary glands, birds possess no such gland, WorldAtlas explains. According to AZ Animals, “no bird nurses its young with milk the way mammals do.” What are avians? Avians, the species encompassing birds, are primarily distinguishable by the presence of feathers, says Britannica. With an underdeveloped sense of smell and limited sense of hearing, the sense they rely on most is their sight. They predominantly navigate their environment via flight and perching. Not all avians fly, though; ostriches, at nine feet tall, and emus are notable flightless birds, despite having wings. What other winged animals are or aren’t mammals? Ducks are birds. Therefore they are avians and not mammals, says learnbirdwatching.com. Chickens are also avians, not mammals. The warm-blooded, feathered loveable penguins are avians, not mammals, despite their flightless nature. Owls, both barn and typical, are included in the avian order and are not mammals, according to encyclopedia.com. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/are-birds-mammals-what-to-know-about-the-feathered-animals-and-their-traits/ar-AA14yd7G

Detective Michael Lollo of the NYPD has spent much of his life responding to emergencies. But he never expected his heroics would include donating a kidney. However, after noticing a billboard ad about organ donation in Times Square and reading a newspaper article on the subject, his interest was piqued. Eventually, after two attempts to donate a kidney fell through, he was linked with Ruth Tisak, the 59-year-old wife of a Marine veteran. Though the recipient and donor initially remain anonymous in transplants, the strangers bonded through letters. But with the surgeries a success, they were finally able to meet. And later, their friendship became a family affair when Michael and his family met Ruth and her relatives to share Thanksgiving dinner. Demand for the current generation of Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox consoles has been through the roof for the better part of two years now, and that should only amplify during Black Friday. We can't guarantee you'll be able to get the Switch, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S you've been eyeing this holiday season, but to help make your search a little bit more convenient, we've compiled all the product listings we can find for each console in one place. Again, demand for these machines is high, so not every console may be in stock by the time you read this. And though Black Friday is near, we don't expect to see many outright discounts on most consoles, either — at the time of publication, the only deals available are for the lower-power Xbox Series S and the base Nintendo Switch. We'll update this article over the course of the week if new offers pop up. For now, though, let us save you a bit of Googling. Nintendo's primary deal this Black Friday bundles the base-model Nintendo Switch with a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and a three-month subscription to its Nintendo Switch Online service. If that sounds familiar, it's because Nintendo has run this exact same promotion during Black Friday for the last few years. It's hard to call this a great deal at this point the Switch OLED is a pretty firm upgrade, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a five-year-old rerelease of an eight-year-old Wii U game. But if you don't need the OLED model's upgraded display and just want to save a few bucks, there's at least some value here. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still receiving updates and normally retails around $50, while a 3-month Switch Online membership normally goes for $8. The $350 Switch OLED is the newest Switch model, so it should be unsurprising to hear that Nintendo isn't advertising any deals for the device this Black Friday. Really, discounts of any kind for the console have been exceedingly rare since it launched in October 2021. Stock for the Switch OLED is generally spottier as well, but we've rounded up where it's available below. As a reminder, the Switch OLED isn't any better at running games than the standard model, but its 7-inch OLED display is larger and more vibrant, it doubles the internal storage (64GB), its built-in kickstand is much sturdier and its updated dock has an Ethernet port. We gave it a review score of 89 last year. https://www.yahoo.com/video/best-black-friday-game-console-deals-on-the-nintendo-switch-xbox-series-s-play-station-5-and-others-140003269.html

Aside from seeing one trailer for Astlibra Revision, henceforth referred to as “Astlibra,” in a Metroidvania Reddit group, I hadn’t heard much else about this game. It appeared to be a bit too chaotic to click with me, and I sort of dropped to the wayside. Receiving the game for review gave me the opportunity to see how this game performs when I’m able to start from the beginning of the journey and build my way up to the cacophony of action that was present in the video and demo. Fortunately for me, this review convinced me of just how wrong I was on this assessment, and now, I hope to present to anyone that reads this why Astlibra is a game that deserves far more than a passing glance. First and foremost, I want to set the record straight on something regarding this game. Though the screenshots may lead someone to believe that this is a Metroidvania title, I feel that this impression may be a bit misleading. It is actually more akin to a classic action RPG with platformer elements such as Nihon Falcom’s Ys 3: Wanderers From Ys – though I feel that this game vastly improves on that title. Musically, Astlibra provides a similar association with Nihon Falcom classics as well. The gameplay takes place across a series of chapters where the player character is tasked with traveling to a new, self-contained location from the main town. After completing a chapter, it is possible to return to old locations to obtain items that may have been missed. But the sense of expanded exploration usually felt in a Metroidvania game is not present here. Not a detriment to the game in the slightest, given that I believe that it accomplishes what it sets out to do; however, I could see someone being disappointed if a Metroidvania is what they wanted here. As stated above, the narrative of Astlibra takes place across a series of chapters as the player character, along with their partner “crow” companion, Karon, work with an adventurer’s guild to make a living while also seeking to find a long-lost friend that they were separated from during a monster assault on their village some years prior – an attack that left them in some rather bizarre circumstances. There are several additional elements to muddy up the works, such as time travel, mysterious adversaries, and of course, a fun arena sidequest, but it provides enough engagement to motivate someone to press on through the game. I didn’t particularly find it to be gripping, but I was very much interested in learning just what happened to the player character and seeing them through on their journey.Combat in Astlibra is very active and offers a quality number of actions for combat versatility. There’s the basic single-button combo attack function which varies in reach and speed by way of what weapon is equipped at the time. When equipped with a shield, there is the ability to guard against both melee and projectile attacks that activates a cooldown after each use in order to prevent overuse. There is also a very cool “summon” mechanic in which Karon, the crow companion, will be able to transform into a variety of different creatures for one-time attacks by expending SP points that are accrued by landing blows in combat. More are unlocked as the game progresses, and it is possible to have six different transformations available for use at a time. Lastly, with thorough exploration, a variety of scrolls can be uncovered that add even more attacks to the kit, such as a rising slash for launch combos. Quite possibly, the most addictive aspect of Astlibra is the fact that the game constantly gives you the feeling that you are obtaining something new and growing as a character – some of those ways I will describe. Skills and abilities each cost a certain number of crystal slots to apply. Weapons, shields, and armor can be leveled up through use until they are mastered – each bestowing the player with a new ability or more crystals for equipping more abilities. Skills such as dashing and double jumping come from this, so it is imperative to mix and match equipment to master as much of it as possible. Leveling up the character allows for skill point distribution to a variety of stats, and, to prevent analysis paralysis, these allocations can be freely re-distributed at the wandering shop that follows the player throughout the game. Upon death, most enemies drop colored crystals, which can be collected. These crystals come in six different varieties and can be taken to a growth board at any time, where they can be spent to unlock a multitude of upgrades ranging from minor stat increases to leveling up currently held summon skills to even entirely new summon skills to equip. Lastly, there’s even a mechanic where items can be applied to Libra scale with them, bestowing greater benefits the closer to perfect balance the scale gets. Even if the combat weren’t already a joy to engage with , the sense of always being close to obtaining something new always kept me wanting to play for just a little longer each session. https://www.heypoorplayer.com/2022/11/22/astlibra-revision-review-pc/

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed politicians making trips to the U.S.-Mexico border as a "political stunt" Tuesday. Jean-Pierre made the statement in response to questions about House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., making an appearance at the border on Tuesday. President Biden has yet to visit the southern border nearly two years into his presidency as the country wrestles with an unprecedented border crisis. "I've heard that Kevin McCarthy is at the border, and the question we have for Kevin McCarthy--who's soon to be Speaker McCarthy--is, what is his plan? What is he doing to help the situation that we're seeing?" Jean-Pierre began. "He goes down there, and he does a political stunt like many Republicans do, but he is not actually putting forth a plan." "McCarthy has no plan. The Republican Party has no plan. They do nothing except political stunts," she continued. The U.S. has seen record levels of illegal immigration throughout the Biden administration. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 230,000 border encounters in October alone, an all-time monthly record that broke the previous record set in September. September data revealed that fiscal year 2022 ended with 2,378,944 migrant encounters, the highest ever recorded in a fiscal year. That figure does not include the 599,000 known "gotaways" that CBP sources told Fox News evaded capture over the same period. The Biden administration has repeatedly sought to dismiss border surges as a yearly pattern. While the southern border has seen a pattern of increases in migration each spring, the surges in both 2021 and 2022 far outpaced previous years, and that pace only escalated throughout the year. Vice President Harris, who Biden tapped to lead the administration's effort to address border crisis, has argued the border is "closed," telling migrants firmly, "Do not come," last year. Nevertheless, many of the migrants Fox News spoke to earlier in November described the border as "abierta," or "open." Some of the migrants also praised Biden personally. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/white-house-dismisses-visiting-southern-border-as-political-stunt-for-republicans/ar-AA14qsI6

Traces of the last suppers of some of the world's earliest known animals may have been discovered in their 558-million-year-old fossils. In the moments before the animals were entombed forever, they grazed on green algal slime on the shallow sea floor, according to an analysis of different types of molecules known as sterols, which were preserved in the fossils. The finding, published today in the journal Current Biology, sheds new light on an enigmatic group of organisms that first appeared on Earth in the Ediacaran Period around 600 million years ago. Most scientists had assumed these animals dined on cyanobacterial mats, said study co-author Jochen Brocks of the Australian National University. "But we can see now these were actually already eating algal mats," Professor Brocks said. "It's probably the difference between eating a raisin and eating a watermelon." And while some animals absorbed nutrients through their skin, the analysis also suggested others were more advanced and digested food in much the same way as we do. Failed experiments, weirdos and modern animals The shallow seas of the Ediacaran Period were filled with a rag-tag bunch of large, soft-bodied organisms. "It's a mixture of different creatures at the very early stage of evolution, with failed experiments and weirdos, but amongst them the modern animals that would then make it into the Cambrian Explosion," Professor Brocks said. What we know about this relatively idyllic time before the rise of predatory animals with claws, shells and spikes in the Cambrian Period is imprinted in rocks such as those in South Australia, where they were first discovered. "These fossils are usually poorly preserved. They're like a death mask in metamorphosed, very rough sandstones," Professor Brocks said. "All we have is casts of the surface, we don't know what they look like from the underside or inside." As a result, scientists have long debated whether these creatures were animals or strange types of plants or algae. Then in 2013, palaeontologist Ilya Bobrovskiy from GFZ-Potsdam in Germany discovered exquisitely preserved fossils in the remote cliffs of the White Sea in Russia. The fossils included round-shaped creatures known as Dickinsonia that settled on slime, worm-like Calyptrina and Kimberella, a primordial organism that resembled a slug with a snout. Analysis of the Dickinsonia fossils by Dr Bobrovskiy at Dr Brock's lab revealed they contained cholesterol found in animals. The team then decided they wanted to find out if any of these fossilised animals had guts. It was largely thought that Dickinsonia and Calyptrina were passive feeders that absorbed nutrients through their skin, similar to tiny, transparent placozoa and tube worms that live in our oceans today. But Kimberella was thought to be more advanced and have a gut, based on pairs of scratch marks and what could potentially be balls of poo seen around fossils. "The only explanation for that was it scraping stuff up, pulling it into a mouth and digesting it," Professor Brocks said. "But if you look at the fossils, even at the organically preserved ones from the White Sea, you don't see a gut; you don't see anything." An ancient animal with a modern gut Animals usually have food in their gut when they die, so the researchers thought they might be able to work out if Kimberella had a gut by what it had been eating. Algae contains a particular cocktail of plant sterols and some fatty molecules (cholesteroids such as cholesterol and ergosteroids) found in animals, fungi and mould. On the other hand, bacteria contain another fat molecule known as hopanol, instead of cholesterol. The analysis suggested that Kimberella gobbled up mainly algae. The structure of these molecules also indicated they'd broken down in an anoxic environment like the gut. "We can see the algal sterols in the Kimberella fossil, but they decayed in the typical anaerobic gut way, very distinct from the decay pattern in the mats," Professor Brocks said. To their surprise, they could also see that the animal's gut was taking up cholesterol rather than plant sterols. "Kimberella had absorbed the cholesterols for its own use and only left ergosteroids and plant steroids in the gut," Professor Brocks said. "That is quite some sophistication — that's like us." The team's analysis also suggested the worm-like Calyptrina had a gut. "It was probably feeding off what it was getting at the surface, like maybe microalgae floating by." But the iconic Dickinsonia was a bottom feeder that absorbed its food as it lived on its algal mat. "We analysed 17 fossils and not a trace of a gut ... so that almost certainly confirmed Dickinsonia was a pretty ancient weirdo," Professor Brocks said. Debate about engimatic Ediacarans far from over Palaeontologist Jim Gehling of the South Australian Museum is a world expert in Ediacaran biota from the red Precambrian sandstone of the Flinders Ranges. Dr Gehling said the findings that Kimberella actively foraged "fits what we find in the trace fossils" in South Australia. But the debate about how these organisms functioned is far from over. "This has been one of the most controversial parts of the fossil record for a long time," Dr Gehling said. "Every textbook tells you that real animals began at the Cambrian and Ediacarans were a failed experiment." While he has advocated organisms such as Dickinosonia were animals, he said others were not convinced the Russian fossils could have preserved material for millions of years. "I'm not an organic geochemist and don't claim to have any wisdom on that, but what I do know is they do have rich, organic material trapped in that sediment [in Russia]," he said. "It's not been buried by kilometres of rock like the Flinders Ranges material has been." That means that the geochemical signatures seen in the fossils could be valid. But, he said, it was still important to query the science and see if the same signatures could be found in more fossils from Russia and different parts of the world such as China and Canada. "When you think everything you read in the textbooks is right, then you've got a problem because textbooks always will be behind what's happening in active research," Dr Gehling said. "We are looking for people who are willing to test, and if necessary, we have to abandon ideas and accept better explanations." https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/worlds-earliest-animals-in-ediacara-ate-algae-and-even-had-sophisticated-guts-study-suggests/ar-AA14qnwQ

Two drones have been shot down in the city of Sevastopol in Crimea when Russian air defences were activated, according to the regional governor. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel describes sanctions against Russia as “unfair” during a trip to Moscow, where he and President Vladimir Putin unveiled a statue of Fidel Castro. Ukraine’s national grid operator says Russian damage to energy facilities is “colossal”, but dismisses calls for civilian evacuations. Explosions have killed three people in two villages in Russia’s Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, according to local officials. A bipartisan group of 16 US senators has asked the Biden administration to carefully reconsider Ukraine’s request for lethal Gray Eagle drones to fight Russia. The Biden administration has so far rejected requests for the Gray Eagle drone, that has an operational ceiling of 29,000 feet and can fly for more than 24 hours, basing it on concerns that the drones could be shot down and may escalate the conflict. As Russia increasingly turns to kamikaze drones and attacks civilian infrastructure, Ukraine has strongly appealed to the US to supply it with powerful drones that can help them gain advantage in the conflict. In their letter, the senators have given Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin until Nov. 30 to explain why the Pentagon believed the drone was not appropriate for the fight in Ukraine. As Russian attacks continue to affect Ukraine’s power capacity, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the country to conserve energy. “The systematic damage to our energy system from strikes by the Russian terrorists is so considerable that all our people and businesses should be mindful and redistribute their consumption throughout the day,” Zelenskyy said in a nightly video address. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also reiterated the need to save electricity and said that because of the rising power consumption, emergency shutdowns may need to be carried out in addition to the planned ones taking place currently. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2022/11/22/russia-ukraine-live-news-kyivs-security-service-raids-church#:~:text=A bipartisan group, fight in Ukraine.

The business of game streaming is fraught, but the convenience, paired with a great service like Xbox Game Pass and a strong internet connection, is very compelling. It’s by no means my ideal replacement for actually owning games, but a pretty fantastic companion nonetheless. So, when a company that generally makes great hardware accessories like Logitech decided it could make a handheld device dedicated to game streaming, I had to be at least a little bit curious. But having used the (shockingly expensive) $350 G Cloud Gaming Handheld, I have to say, I probably should have kept my curiosity to myself. And the most tragic thing is, it’s not entirely Logitech’s fault. Despite the dramatic improvements to game streaming since the days of OnLive, the technology is not ready for mainstream use. The state of American broadband is not ready for it either. Using traditional Android games as a backup when your internet is down isn’t as simple a solution as you might think. But it’s not all bad news. Here’s what works about the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld, and the things Logitech should fix if it ever gets around to a sequel. Inverse may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article. If you’re making a handheld in 2022, there’s a good chance you consider making one with the same form factor as the Nintendo Switch. It’s clear the thought crossed Logitech’s mind. The G Cloud Gaming Handheld has a 7-inch touchscreen sandwiched between joysticks, a D-pad, and X/Y/B/A buttons in the same arrangement as you’d find on an Xbox controller. There are L and R shoulder buttons above matching triggers too, with the only really “new” buttons being a yellow “G” button on the left side and a home button on the right. Along the top of G Cloud, there’s a volume button and power switch on the left and the microSD card slot on the right. The bottom of the device is devoted to tinny speakers on the left and right, and a headphone jack and USB-C port in the very center. For a more detailed look at the Logitech G Cloud’s components, here are the specs: Logitech G Cloud Tech Specs Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G Octo-core CPU Display: 1,920 x 1,080, 16:9, 7-inch LCD touchscreen Audio: Stereo speakers, dual microphones, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack Battery life: 23.1Wh, 6,00mAh Connectivity: Dual-band Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Bluetooth 5.1 Storage: 64GB, microSD card expansion slot OS: Android 11 https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/logitech-g-cloud-review-xbox-game-pass-on-the-go-has-one-big-problem/ar-AA14gHMn

With the excellent Spider-Man: Miles Morales now on PC, let’s talk about how Sony isn’t getting it and how supersampling is going to save gaming. Sony and their plethora of first-party games are back in focus, as Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now available on PC. A superb, condensed adventure through the lens of the new, teenage Spider-Man, it’s yet another walk down recent memory lane. Just like with the Uncharted PC port, there’s nothing new to talk about the game here. Miles is a great character, maybe one of Brian Michael Bendis’ best creations since Ultimate Spider-Man.The superhero moments and the bombast? Perfection. Miles and his early-years reactions to things like Rhino, or trying to keep his secret identity is priceless – if a little lost in the noise of a fairly predictable villain arc. Spider-Man Miles Morales: Key details Price: $49.99/£39.99 Developer: Insomniac Games/Nixxes Software Release Date: November 18, 2022 Platforms: PS4, PS5, PC Spider-Man Miles Morales trailer: Spider-Man is a button masher I will say that, with Batman: Arkham Asylum being over 10 years old at this point, its combat system feels tired. Insomniac know that it was the only way to accurately portray Spider-Man in a modern video game context, but the overall bashing of buttons and the requirement to hold them for certain combos makes combat sometimes feel like a chore. For a company renowned for going above and beyond to add new flavors of powers to the repertoire, it does feel like they hinged too much on gadgets rather than Miles himself. Although the addition of new powers and options is welcome, if you didn’t enjoy Marvel’s Spider-Man’s combat, you can safely skip Miles Morales.Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is an excellent romp, the tastier, Diet Coke version of the original’s full-fat experience. It never outstays its welcome and the rhythm it puts out is far more enjoyable than the slog some of these open-world games can fall into. https://www.dexerto.com/gaming/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-pc-review-1987660/

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Friday. But this is not what caught the attention of the world. The fact that Kim was holding hands with his daughter made more headlines than the actual launch. Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) confirmed on Saturday that Kim Jong Un attended the launch of the ICBM “together with his beloved daughter and wife.” For a person who has kept his personal life behind the curtain, Kim’s daughter, who has not been named by KCNA, tagging along with her father has been seen as an important development in North Korea’s political future. The pictures released by KCNA mark the first official confirmation of the existence of the North Korean leader’s daughter. This is the first time she made a public appearance. On Friday, North Korea launched an ICBM called ‘Hwason-17’. The missile travelled for 1,000 km before it landed 200 km west of Oshima-Oshima Island in Japan. Kim’s daughter was photographed in a white puffy coat holding hands with her father as they inspected the launch. Let’s take a closer look. They say never to mix your work life with your personal life. Kim Jong Un takes this very seriously because there is very little known about his private life. But in 2013, when former basketball star Dennis Rodman met Kim he mentioned his wife and his daughter. Rodman told The Guardian that he spent time with the Jong Un family and that Kim had a “baby” named “Ju Ae”. “I held their baby Ju Ae and spoke with Ms Ri as well”, he said. Perhaps impressed by Kim’s parenting skills, Rodman described him as a “good dad”. Back in 2012, speculations about Ri being pregnant sprang up after a photo that showed her wearing a long coat was making rounds and it was believed that she wore it to hide her baby bump. According to a report by Al Jazeera, by the looks of it, Ju Ae is estimated to be around 12 or 13 years of age. Kim and his wife Ri are believed to have three children, two girls and a boy. Some observers even believe that one of these children was seen in footage during a national holiday in September. ‘North Korean regime is here to stay’ Analysts and experts believed that Ju Ae’s public appearance was not just a coincidence and that Kim Jong Un might have planned it for a long. Soo Kim, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) told AFP, “To introduce his daughter to the world at this juncture could be designed to send an international message that the North Korean regime is here to stay.” “In a way, it’s a symbolic picture of Kim passing the sceptre of the rule to the next generation. The photos also suggest a degree of closeness and comfort between Kim and his daughter”, which could indicate that she is being groomed for future leadership,” added Soo Kim. While others think that bringing his daughter and wife to the launch might also be a part of Pyongyang’s – the political centre of North Korea—plan of depicting Kim as a “normal” leader. North Korean studies scholar Ahn Chan-il said, “Pyongyang seems to be trying to brand itself as a ‘normal’ nation – while conducting these ICBM launches that show off its military prowess – by showing images of Kim being a seemingly loving father.” He added, “It is also a gesture of stabilising the regime by declaring to the outside world that it is now heading for its fourth-generation succession and that it is well-prepared for it.” According to a report by BBC, Ju Ae’s appearance might also be a hint that she has been chosen as her father’s successor, since the political power of the country has always been exercised by the family, meaning that Kim will want one of his children to take over. Michael Madden, a North Korean expert from the Stimson Centre in Washington believed that Ju Ae’s public appearance could be her father’s way of showing “that the fourth generation of power succession is going to come through my bloodline.” Some experts have also pointed out that by unveiling her daughter at such an important launch suggests that she will one day play a role in further developing the country’s military weapons. According to BBC, recently Kim announced that under no circumstance would he give up his nuclear weapons. Therefore, his daughter’s appearance is a way of showing the world that his nukes are here to stay and will be managed by the next generation. What are Kim’s succession plans? The North Korean leader has made sudden disappearances in the past few years which has raised questions about his succession plans. According to a report by Reuters, Pyongyang has not officially announced Kim’s successor yet, analysts say that her sister, Kim Yo Jong along with his loyalists are ready to form a regency until a successor is ready to take over. These speculations gained ground when in 2020, Kim missed a key state anniversary event on 15 April and rumours of him being seriously ill or possibly dead spread like wildfire. https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/what-we-know-about-kim-jong-un-s-daughter-who-made-her-first-public-appearance-today/ar-AA14ixjL

A Shropshire woman who caused dozens of animals to suffer while running an illegal dog breeding business has lost an appeal against her prison sentence. Alison Bransby, 62, made £150,000 from the animals and was sent to jail for 22 weeks on October 6 at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court. Bransby, of Hollins Lane, Tilstock, had admitted 17 animal welfare offences relating to 27 dogs, eight puppies, two cats, a horse, a lamb, a terrapin and an African grey parrot at an earlier hearing. This included one offence of breeding and selling puppies without a licence. But she launched an appeal at Worcester Crown Court which was dismissed by a judge today (November 18), meaning Bransby’s lifetime ban on keeping all animals will also continue. She will also have to pay costs of £44,000. Thirty five dogs, including cavapoos, cockapoos, dachshunds, Cavalier King Charles spaniels and terriers were found living in "appalling" conditions at her property after the RSPCA and West Mercia Police carried out a warrant at the address on February 24 2021, the RSPCA said. The investigation was launched following complaints from members of the public who had bought puppies and dogs from the farm which later became ill. The court heard how Bransby was illegally operating an extensive commercial dog breeding operation at the site and advertised the enterprise on different websites. Dogs and puppies were housed in wooden sheds, pens and kennels, some barely bigger than a large rabbit hutch. She’d made £150,000 from illegally breeding and selling the puppies, and about £9,000 in cash was seized from a safe at the property during the operation. In her evidence, Kate Parker, the RSPCA inspector who led the warrant, said: “There were wooden sheds with stable type doors. Inside I could see a typical breeding set up for puppies, with a heat lamp angled over a plastic dog bed, an empty bowl and some soiled rags inside the bed. "Inside a lean-to type construction there was a row of metal constructed kennels. There was a thin layer of sawdust on the concrete floor, clutter, household items and electrical cables dangling inside, accessible by the dogs housed in each. “I offered Alison Bransby the opportunity to sign over animals she wished into the care of the RSPCA to assist in reducing numbers and ease difficulties in caring for them on site, to which she disagreed.” Among the large number of dogs found was an emaciated and elderly King Charles Cavalier called Teddy, who is thought to have been used for breeding. Curled up in a plastic bed in the corner of the dark kitchen, he was found to be blind and deaf with only one tooth left in his mouth. His fur was stained with urine and he was suffering from severe, untreated ear disease which was so long-standing that both ear canals had effectively collapsed. Such was the extent of his neglect that he was put to sleep on veterinary advice to prevent further suffering. Dozens of other neglected and poorly animals were discovered at the property, which a vet said had been inadequately cared for for at least nine months due to the severity of ear and dental disease present in some of the cats and dogs. They included: Fifteen dogs of various ages and breeds - some with urine stains on their fur and significant underlying health conditions - living in dark, cluttered and unhygienic conditions in the kitchen with limited access to water bowls and bedding. Eight puppies, born to a one-eyed mother dog, found in an outdoor kennel block with no water whose basic standards of animal husbandry had not been met. Four dogs living in one of several substandard kennel blocks and pens that had severe dental disease and had been suffering for at least four months because of the defendants' failure to seek veterinary treatment. Two cats that had been suffering unnecessarily for a period of at least six weeks and six months respectively due to significant ear disease, with one of the animals having a visible protruding mass. A lamb whose lower eyelids had rolled in, causing pain, trauma and ulceration to the surface of the eye. A terrapin with a heavily deformed shell living in an enclosure with no UV or heat source. An African grey parrot with extensive fur loss to his chest living in a filthy cage with a thick layer of dried faecal matter. A thoroughbred mare called Ruby with severely overgrown hooves that had not been treated for at least six months and teeth that had not been seen for two years. A vet said that none of the 41 animals that were seized had been provided with a suitable environment by the defendants and insufficient steps had been taken by them to protect the animals from pain, injury, suffering and disease. The vet added: “It was abundantly clear from the layout of the property, the dogs present, the previous advertisements and the presence of puppies that the property was being used as a dog breeding establishment, which was unlicensed. As such the dogs should have been housed in accommodation consistent with a licensed breeding establishment, which makes specific requirements in relation to space provision, as well as the materials from which the kennels are constructed. “The external kennels and pens that the dogs were being housed in fell far short of the licensing standards and hence it is my expert opinion that the environmental provisions for the dogs were unsuitable for their needs.” RSPCA animal centres in Leicester, Birmingham and Aylesbury, assisted by a number of the charity’s fosterers, took in the animals. All but three have since been rehomed. Sadly Ruby the horse and both cats were put to sleep on veterinary advice to prevent further suffering. Speaking after today’s hearing, chief inspector Ian Briggs from the RSPCA’s special operations unit, which investigated the illegal selling, said: "We’re pleased this case has finally concluded and that the vast majority of the animals who suffered such terrible neglect are now living happy lives in loving new homes. We'd always encourage anyone thinking of getting a puppy to adopt rather than buy, and to do lots of research first to ensure they source a dog responsibly.” https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsbirmingham/shropshire-woman-who-neglected-dozens-of-animals-loses-appeal-against-prison-sentence/ar-AA14hhNd
