There is a new place on Earth where more are lightning strikes and is not Florida or Africa. According to a recent study, the new world capital of the rays is the Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela. The NASA averaged 233 rays per square kilometer per year in the lake using sensor observations aboard a satellite of the Agency. The Congo in Africa had been previously declared as the place where more fall rays of the Earth. The last study is derived from 16 years of observations. It concluded that the combination of the sea and the breeze of the valley that converge on the warm water of the lake cause them to develop electrical storms 279 days a year. The persistent development of these storms is focused in the areas where there is a high density of lightning. Although Africa lost the first place, continues to be the continent with the largest number of places in which frequently fall rays, followed by Asia, South America, North America and Australia.1 point

Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency, today announced the postponement until 2020 of the second mission ExoMars, a joint project with the European Space Agency (ESA) to look for evidence of life on Mars. The second mission of the joint project, originally scheduled for 2018, was postponed due to delays in the European space industry and Russian, as well as in the mutual supplies computer scientists. The Russian space agency, which underlined that it is a joint decision with the ESA, indicated that under these conditions the deferral is "the optimal solution" to carry out the project. The Russian mission-european ExoMars 2016 took off last 14 march from the cosmodrome Russian cosmodrome (Kazakhstan) and is expected to arrive at Mars in October when the space capsule is divided into two parts. The satellite Trace Gas Orbiter (OGTT) will be devoted to studying the gases from the martian atmosphere, while the module Schiaparelli will sit on the surface of this planet to validate the technology of landing for the second phase of the program, ExoMars 2020. At that stage, will be sent to Mars a vehicle with capacity to dig into the soil to a depth previously unpublished up to two meters.1 point

Are you a tech buff who is unable to keep off your phone even at the dinner table? In that case, your kids may not be happy with you at all, say researchers. A study which delves into the dynamics of technology and families reveals that the children of those parents who sporadically text even while driving or those who indulge in over-sharing on social media are not too impressed with their parents’ habits. The researchers noted that there have been similar hurdles in the past, as families grew accustomed to new technologies such as radio, television and video games in the household. However, the rapid evolution of technology in the past decades — notably the advent of the internet — has created a wide gap between people in relationships, especially familial relationships. “This challenge is exacerbated by the fact that parents themselves may be struggling to set and abide by the rules they set for themselves for technology use,” the authors indicated. The study states that as technology has become pervasive in children’s lives, establishing and enforcing rules has become increasingly challenging for parents. The principal concern — among both children and parents — was paying attention to those around, instead of technology. For the study, researchers from the University of Michigan and the University of Washington conducted a survey with 249 US child-parent pairs, exploring rules both for children — aged 10-17 — and parents along with enforcement challenges. The findings showed that 92 per cent of children feel that their parents need to show more interest while talking to them. The children desire that their parents should not post anything online about them without their prior permission. Moreover, the parents need to trust their kids to set their own boundaries. The kids do not want to see their parents spending all their time on the computer, tablet or smartphone. They hate using phone while driving. Rather, they want the parents to establish technology-related rules. Most importantly, the children want the parents to practice what they preach, the researchers pointed out.1 point
