The next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be revealed this year ahead of a launch in 2026, the company's CEO has confirmed.

The Stelvio will be followed by a next-generation Giulia, and both models will continue to be built in Italy.

Alfa Romeo also confirmed that both the Giulia and Stelvio will be offered with hybrid powertrains.

UPDATE 3/21/25: Alfa Romeo confirmed to Car and Driver that the next-generation Stelvio will begin production for North America in 2026 with both electric and hybrid powertrains. Alfa Romeo also shed light on the future of the outgoing models: “In North America, the 2.0L gas powertrain for Stelvio and Giulia will continue to be available through the 2026 calendar year.”

Alfa Romeo desperately needs some fresh metal to rejuvenate its lineup. A next-generation for the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV are on the way, with both set to adopt electric powertrains. But earlier this year, Alfa Romeo confirmed it would follow a "multi-energy approach," suggesting electricity wouldn't be the sole motivation for the two upcoming models. Now, Alfa Romeo has confirmed the next-generation Stelvio will arrive first and that both models will be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

The confirmation came via a LinkedIn post from Santo Ficili, the CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, who assumed the roles following the corporate shakeup caused by the departure of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares last fall. While we already knew the aging Stelvio and Giulia were due for new generations—the Giulia originally arrived for the 2017 model year, while Stelvio showed up for 2018—we now have more concrete details about the upcoming versions.

The next-generation Stelvio will hit the road first, with Ficili stating that it will be revealed this year ahead of a launch in 2026. The CEO said the Giulia would follow but didn't specify when, although we expect the next iteration of Alfa Romeo's sports sedan to be unveiled sometime in 2026. Comments made by Ficili earlier this year also suggest that the Giulia may morph into an SUV-like vehicle with a taller body.

Ficili also confirmed that the original plan for Alfa Romeo to go all-electric by 2027 has been scrapped, as he stated that the Stelvio and Giulia will be offered with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. Both cars will be built on the STLA Large platform, which also underpins the latest Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S.

Ficili didn't say what engine will provide the internal-combustion portion of this new hybrid system, but we can take an educated guess. The new Charger is currently sold as the electric Charger Daytona model but will soon be joined by the Charger Sixpack, which will pack the Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six, currently found in the Ram 1500 as well as the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The 3.0-liter makes 420 horsepower in its standard tune, and 550 hp in the "High Output" setup.

Since we already know that it will work with the STLA Large platform, it seems likely that the Hurricane engine will form the basis of a new hybrid powertrain in the Alfa Romeo models. While it's possible that the Alfas could use a different hybrid system—like the four-cylinder-based setup found in the Tonale hybrid—we think the Stelvio and Giulia will stick to six cylinders. Ficili also confirmed both the Stelvio and Giulia will continue to be assembled in Italy. More details on both models should emerge later this year.
