Free three-month courses to help people with health conditions are on offer to islanders in Jersey.

Lifestyle Medicine Jersey, a non-profit organisation, said it had launched the courses to help people manage - and sometimes reverse - metabolic syndrome.

It is the name for a group of health problems - such as being overweight and having high blood pressure - that can put you at risk of type 2 diabetes or effect heart or blood vessels.

Dr Jo Darwood, GP and director at Lifestyle Medicine Jersey, said the courses were "all about prevention and empowerment".

She added: "By addressing the root causes of metabolic syndrome, we aim to help people take control of their health, reduce dependence on medication and live longer, healthier lives."

It has been funded by a grant from Jersey Community Foundation.

Organisers said it provided practical ways to improve health through lifestyle changes such as better nutrition, exercise and stress management.
