Fire crews have warned people in the immediate area to keep their windows and doors closed while they tackle a fire on Wallace Way in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. A high-volume pump has been set up, resulting in the closure of a junction between Cadwell Lane, Wilbury Way and Woolgrove Road. A spokesperson from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said over 60 emergency calls had been made to report the fire. They attended fires at the site in September and last December. Two fires were also reported at the neighbouring Nationwide Metal Centre plant, in July and in February. Labour MP Alistair Strathern has previously called for "robust action" to reduce fire risks which he said had become a "common occurrence."
