The 2025 Nissan Altima drops the SR VC-Turbo from its lineup, leaving the 188-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder as the sole engine.

Nissan also introduces a new Special Edition package for the SV trim with technology that is more closely aligned with the upper trims.

Pricing for the 2025 Altima starts at $28,140 for the base model and ranges up to $35,970 for the all-wheel-drive-equipped SL.

One of the few sedans still on sale just got a little less powerful. Well, sort of. Nissan has dropped the optional SR VC-Turbo trim from the 2025 Altima lineup, leaving behind the rather unremarkable naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder to power the full lineup.

A Lone Engine Choice

Now the sole engine, the 2.5-liter produces 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Every Altima has a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), with the SR grade featuring paddle shifters for some faux-shifting fun. When reached for comment on the loss of the variable-compression-ratio 2.0-liter turbo four, a Nissan spokesperson responded to Car and Driver with the following statement:

"Nissan frequently adapts powertrain options across its lineup to meet the needs of customers. Our 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers the optimum balance of fuel economy and performance, combined with the AWD compatibility that more Altima customers are looking for."

Pricing for the 2025 Altima starts at $28,140 for the base S trim, which is $630 more than last year. Spending a bit more on the $28,570 SV opens the door to several options, such as all-wheel drive and upgraded technology for the cabin. The SV trim also adds a new $1090 Special Edition package that includes the same 12.3-inch infotainment system as the SL and SR, and it includes a wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate controls, and a sunroof. The package also switches up the SV's look by adding a rear spoiler, glossy black 17-inch wheels, illuminated kickplates, and a center console with pretend carbon fiber.

Stepping up to the SR trim brings the price tag up to $29,970, but the move improves upon the SV's standard features. The top-spec SL starts at $34,470 with front-wheel drive; the all-wheel-drive configuration starts at $35,970. According to Nissan, the 2025 Altima will hit dealer lots within the coming weeks.
