Four one-day-old ducklings have been rescued after they were found stuck underground in a BT cable culvert.

They were discovered at the side of the road on the B1188 between Dunston and Metheringham on the evening of 12 June.

Initially searching for an injured deer in the road, Lincolnshire Police Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) stumbled across the damaged cable with the ducklings stuck in water several feet below.

Two local residents and a gamekeeper assisted the RCAT officer in saving the four youngsters.

RCAT said that "without a doubt" the ducklings would have died if they had not been found.

It added the ducklings were "now in the care of a Wild Things Rescue carer in Sleaford."
