ππ-πππππ δ½
Kia has just revealed as much of its future plans as strategically possible to its investor group this week, which means we get a public look into what new cars we can expect coming down the pipeline in the next few years, out through 2027. The Korean automaker is planning to have at least 15 fully electric cars on sale by then, with at least six new hybrid models also to be introduced in the meantime. These plans include previously announced cars and SUVs like the Kia EV3, EV4, and EV5, and likely refer to upcoming reveals including an EV6 refresh, compact EV2, and EV8 flagship sport sedan. Here's everything we know from the company's new presentation.Despite already being on sale elsewhere, the new Kia EV5 SUV is not going on sale in the U.S. this year, but the company's report indicates it could be in the future: "Kia will launch six EV models by 2026, starting with the upcoming EV3 in 2024, followed by EV2, EV4, and EV5 in major markets, including the U.S., Europe, and South Korea." For 2025 and forward, what's now expected to be an affordable compact EV2 model sounds enticing, as does the reportedly leaked EV8 all-electric Kia Stinger sedan replacement. According to Kia documents, three all-new EVs were introduced globally in 2023 (we think Kia means the new Niro EV, EV5, and EV9), one new EV is planned for this year with the production launch of the EV3, and then there will be five new global EV launches in 2025, an additional EV on offer in 2026, and then two more in 2027. Two additional new EVs will be PBVs, or personal business vehicles designed for commercial uses which Kia announced at CES earlier this year, with one coming in 2025 and another in 2027.At least one, maybe two electric pickup trucks (beyond a modified version of Kia's new PBV platform that can also be a trucklet) have been reported to be in development (said to be one for the U.S. and one in other markets), for launch by 2027. That leaves a few so-far unannounced mystery EVs out there for us to ponder. Find a car near you Existing gas and electric models will also get attention, with a refreshed EV6 SUV set for later in 2024 and a performance-oriented Kia EV9 GT trim coming in early 2025. Β A refreshed Kia Sportage SUV is also due this year, and there's supposed to be six hybrid models on sale by the end of 2024; Niro, Sportage, and Sorento hybrids are already on sale. Kia now says most of its major nameplates will get a hybrid option at least, sometime in the next few years. Additionally, the report today outlines development of next-generation hybrid powertrains for even more future models. The hybrid lineup will expand to nine electrified models offered by 2028. By the end of the decade, Kia hopes for a U.S. sales mix of 40 percent EVs and 35 percent hybrids (pending market or plan changes, and that'll be with a larger lineup and likely growth in sales, so the final mix could change).
