Returning to his nation, he was a fervent fighter against the Military Junta that ruled Argentina after the coup d'état led by Jorge Rafael Videla (1976-1983).

After his famous letter called Open Letter from a Writer to the Military Junta was published, he was assassinated on March 25, 1977.

Variations in Red (1953)
It was the first book published by Rodolfo Walsh. It is made up of three stories of murders solved by Commissioner Jiménez and the young Daniel Hernández, a young proofreader for a publishing house. Coincidentally, Walsh worked as a translator and proofreader for a publishing house.

Operation Massacre (1957)
This was his first non-fiction novel and the initiator of this genre, preceding by nine years In Cold Blood by the American writer Truman Capote, a novel that is commonly cited as the first work of this genre.

It is a detailed investigation supported by interviews with witnesses, survivors, relatives and authorities that details the murder of several prisoners on June 9, 1956, recorded in history as the murders of José León Suárez. This work was made into a film in 1972 with the film of the same name directed by Jorge Cedrón, whose script was co-written by Walsh.

A kilo of gold (1967)
This book is made up of four stories: Letters, The Earthly Trades, Footnote and A Kilo of Gold. This work of fiction was the third of its kind published by Walsh.

They are stories with different themes where the author shows off his quality as a writer and in Letters, for example, he makes different changes in the language, in the narrative form, elements that, together with the absence of punctuation in some moments, investigate the form of everyday epistolary, discursive or conversational speaking.

It is worth mentioning that his story A Kilo of Gold, which gives its name to the book, was one of the stories that served as the basis for the film Just Give It (1974) directed by Osiris Wilemsky.

Who Killed Rosendo (1969)
This text is another of his non-fiction novels, with deep investigations. It narrates the murder of the union leader of the Metallurgical Workers Union, Rosendo García, who died in a shootout where two people also died in May 1966.

The investigation was based on the testimony of witnesses and delved into personal interests, baseness and issues of this type that were experienced in the union climate of the time.

Satanowsky case (1973)
In this, another of the non-fiction novels published by Walsh, the murder of lawyer Marcos Satanowsky in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 13, 1957, is discussed.

In this text the author once again carried out another exhaustive investigation to end up accusing cover-ups, poor judicial action and immersion of national intelligence in the homicide, among other issues.
