Chinese Firm Behind InnoGrit Unveils RISC-V Powered Gen5 SSD Controller: 14+ GB/s & Fanless Designs 1

YingRen Technology, the firm behind Innogrit, has unveiled a new Gen5 SSD controller based on RSIC-V architecture & it claims to enable fanless designs.

RISC-V and AI Technology To Power YingRen's (InnoGrit) PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD Controller
You might have not heard about YingRen Technology before this, but the firm is widely popular in the consumer SSD segment, as it is known as InnoGrit outside China. The company is responsible for some of the fastest SSD controllers out there, such as the 12nm InnoGrit IG5666, which Team Group T-Force GE PRO PCIe Gen5 SSDs utilize. Yingren Technology will capitalize on the AI hype by integrating the latest features into its upcoming PCIe 5.0 YRS820 SSD controller. In a recent showcase, Yingren revealed that their YRS820 Gen 5 SSD controller can achieve sequential read and write speeds beyond 14,000 MB/s and 12,000 MB/s, respectively, placing it among the top contenders in the market. The controller comes with random read and write speeds of 2 million and 1.5 million, respectively. Moreover, the controller comes with an open-source RISC-V architecture to align with US policies, a 4-channel PCIe 5.0 interface, and eight NAND flash channels, ensuring the best performance without compromise. The controller can support up to 8TB capacities.

More interestingly, YingRen states that they can achieve all of this high-end performance in a fan-less design which is something we look forward to seeing take practical application. Currently, all of the Gen5 SSD solutions that we have seen either come equipped with massive heatsinks or active cooling solutions.

Moving on to its "AI-inspired" features, the YingRen PCIe Gen 5 SSD controller reportedly comes with a built-in AI-based data acceleration feature aimed at reducing latencies and ensuring a speedier performance. The YRS820 SSD controller also comes with a variety of other perks, making it perfect for use in AI PCs, according to the company. In terms of the release date, Yingren Technology hasn't specified it, and we don't have a word on when we could see market adoption.
