Gonzalo Montiel and Nico Domínguez's Nottingham Forest received a hard blow in their fight to stay in the Premier League. The British team suffered a four-point discount for failing to comply with the competition's economic regulations that put it in the red zone. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest is considering appealing the decision of the English League. The club's lawyers are meeting to analyze the best judicial path to follow in the face of the Premier's decision to sanction the club where Montiel plays.

The English team was accused by the Premier League of breaking the league's financial fair play rules and their case was sent in January to an independent commission, which is what determined this sanction. Forest reportedly exceeded the three-year losses of £105 million (€122 million) allowed by the competition. Since arriving in the Premier League in 2022, Forest has spent around €300 million signing 42 players.

The team from the north of England is in the fight to avoid relegation in the Premier. Before this sanction they had accumulated 25 points in 29 games and were in 17th place. That position kept Montiel and Nico Domínguez's team above the relegation zone, which was occupied by Luton Town (22 points), Burnley (17 points) and Sheffield United (14 points). After this 4-point drop, Forest sinks into the red zone. They now have 21 points and fall below Luton Town, who would now be out of danger. Forest de Montiel is the second English team to receive a point deduction sanction for failing to comply with financial regulations. Before, it was Everton's turn, which received a 10-point deduction, which was later reduced to 6 points after its appeal. Everton, however, could receive a new sanction, having been accused of a second irregularity in a longer period of time. In addition to Everton and Forest, Manchester City is also under suspicion, which was accused in February last year of 115 financial irregularities.
