[Politics] Winter calls on the traditional right: “Stop being afraid of all the Republicans”

Deputy Gonzalo Winter (CS) analyzed the right after its defeat in the last plebiscite and sent them a message: they have to separate from the Republicans because agreements can be reached with the traditional right.

In conversation with Al Pan Pan with Mirna Schindler, the parliamentarian assured that in Chile, “there are different types of people on the right. There is a right that has a legitimate ideological contradiction with our sector and with that world we can eventually reach agreements, but they are constrained and have not had the courage to separate or rebel against the hegemony of others who all they want is to boycott.” .

That right that only wants to boycott, according to Winter, are the “Republicans, always with the capacity to hegemonize the bloc and to permeate all other right-wing parties with their way of doing politics. With his way of doing politics I mean changing the public policy debate for personal conflict, and not for the underlying issue,"

Although Winter recognizes that the Republican right is weak after being defeated in the plebiscite, he also emphasizes that only his text was defeated and not his way of doing politics. “It is one thing that his text has been defeated and another thing is that the other right understands that the way of doing politics that the Republican has, which is a way of doing politics that completely ignores the result of the legislative process, the of public policy development, and that the only thing that is focused is on the conflict.”

“If one analyzes José Antonio Kast's speech, he is a guy who in a mud fight, in a television debate, is extremely skillful, but in a discussion about the pension system, he is extremely unskillful. So, he generally wants to avoid any type of agreement,” he stressed.

“Let us remember that the Republican Party has never reached an agreement in its history. They have not reached an agreement on any issue with another political party. In the Chamber of Deputies, in the Senate, they have never reached an agreement, they have never signed a document that has the signature of another party next to it,” he criticized.

For this reason, Winter asks the traditional right, that is, Evópoli, RN and the UDI to “stop being afraid of the Republican Party, and understand that there is a country that needs to raise pensions, to have a patriotic attitude, and also that they understand that there are progressive forces here, of which I am part, that we have also given a lot to reach the points of agreement that we are proposing. Let us remember that what the UDI is saying today that it would never approve, are issues that were present in the reform of former president Sebastián Piñera.”
