The National Association of Sanitary Services Companies (Andess) announced the first water study - commissioned by Criteria - to understand the level of awareness that people have about the water crisis, their consumption habits and care for water.

Among the main findings is that almost unanimity of those surveyed (95%) believe that despite this year's rainfall records, water restrictions and care should be maintained, in a context of drought that has been affecting for more than 14 years. to the country.

At the same time, there is a feeling of risk that remains, despite this year's frontal systems and rainfall records. That is why the majority (93%) agree that water care restrictions should be maintained.

Now, the majority of people (86%) declare that they have heard, seen or read about the water crisis and consider (85%) that it is a relevant issue for them. However, 77% consider that they do not have a sufficient level of knowledge on the subject and that, in general, in Chile there is low awareness (77%) regarding this phenomenon.

According to the results, people consider that there is still much to do in terms of water. In fact, the vast majority agree with trying to use water in the most rational way possible and not waste this resource.

Profiles around the water crisis
Regarding water problems, four attitudinal segments of people were found: denialists, guilty, evasive and active conscious.

Deniers (19%) are those who do not consider scarcity to be a phenomenon to which one must adapt; Rather, it is a situation that people exaggerate and that will not affect them personally.
Guilty people (20%) are people who feel guilty due to the negative impact they have on water scarcity; However, they do not show greater willingness to generate changes in their lifestyles.
Evasives (28%) are those who, although they think that water scarcity is a current situation, consider that humanity should worry about other issues first. On the other hand, they state that the blame for this situation lies with third parties and, for this reason, it should be others (authorities and businessmen) who look for solutions.
