Nicolás De La Cruz has already said goodbye to River Plate and his transfer to Flamengo in Brazil has been made official. In the run-up to Christmas, both clubs made a joint announcement on social networks confirming the operation.

“The player Nicolás De La Cruz was transferred to Flamengo and his career will continue there. Thank you for leaving everything in every game, Nico!”, published the official account of X (former Twitter) of the Millionaire. The 26-year-old player left the Núñez institution after having obtained his ninth title in the Champions Trophy against Rosario Central.

For its part, the Rio de Janeiro club also welcomed the Uruguayan midfielder on its social networks and celebrated his arrival: “What a Christmas gift! Welcome, De La Cruz.” In another publication, Mengao showed a video with the testimony of his new reinforcement.

“Nation, how are you? Here Nico De La Cruz. I am arriving in 2024 and in the coming years great things will come and I hope they will accompany us,” was the initial message that the 26-year-old footballer recorded with the Flamengo shirt.

Minutes after his transfer to Flamengo was official, De La Cruz wrote a letter addressed to the River public in gratitude for his six years at the Núñez club:

Today I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who was part of my incredible journey at River Plate. It has been an honor to wear this shirt and represent the club that I love so much.

I want to share with you that I have made the decision to embark on a new path but before leaving I want to thank the coaching staff, the props, the security, the managers who trusted me and my dear teammates. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, each of you has left an indelible mark on my experience.

To the fans, to that inexhaustible engine of passion and dedication, I owe a special thank you. Your unconditional support has been my great motivation in every game.

I close this stage with the certainty that River will always live in my heart. This club is and will always be my home and that of my family. Everyone, thank you for so much love. We will meet again at some point. See you soon River Plate!

The Uruguayan midfielder, who is part of his team, arrived at River Plate in 2017, from Liverpool in Uruguay and played 214 official matches, with 36 goals and 40 assists. In addition, he won a Copa Libertadores, a Copa Sudamericana, three Argentine Cups, two Professional Leagues, two Argentine Super Cups and a Champions Trophy.

The departure of the man born in Montevideo caused pain among River fans and in the last few hours a video went viral in which a girl who is a fan of the Millionaire receives the news of the departure of her idol.
