“I have instructed my cabinet to resume the legislative process of the pension reform as soon as possible, in order to move it forward.” From the commune of La Pintana, where he participated in a discussion about security, President Gabriel Boric referred to what was discussed with the helmsmen of the ruling parties who attended La Moneda this morning for an expanded political committee.

The meeting took place one day before the 2023 constitutional plebiscite, where an overwhelming majority rejected the proposal for a new Magna Carta prepared by the Constitutional Council and supported by the Republican Party and Chile Vamos.

Yesterday, after knowing the results, President Boric called for unity and dialogue, thinking about reforms in health, education and pensions. The first steps are taken on the latter.

Today, the Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara (PC), confirmed that the Government will enter its expected indications into the pension reform project - whose parliamentary discussion was paralyzed pending the end of the constituent process - and announced that these include a new formula distribution of the 6% additional contribution.

Through her social networks, Minister Jara detailed that:

1% will go to strengthening the formal employment of women through daycare and modifying life expectations

2% will be for individual savings
And 3% for social security, which would allow all contributors to increase one UF (36 thousand pesos) for each year they contribute.
The head of the Labor and Social Welfare portfolio explained that the indications “largely include elements that were raised both in the technical tables and in the political tables that have been held during all these months, and seek to meet the objectives that "The bill aims to increase pensions for current and future retirees."

"Up to this point we have had a discussion that has allowed us to make progress on certain matters, and on others it has still been difficult to reach an agreement, but we hope that with the space that opens up with this new season of agreements that the President of the Republic can conclude a bill,” added the Secretary of State.

For her part, the Government's spokesperson minister, Camila Vallejo (PC), made an urgent call to carry out reforms such as pensions and the fiscal pact, highlighting the shared responsibility between the Executive, Parliament and the opposition.
