[Software] Nintendo has a conscience: will there be a third Breath of the Wild?

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom has been, for many, one of the best of 2023. Not in vain, it has been nominated as one of the best titles at the Game Awards although finally, thank goodness, the injustice of raise it to the top of the award. Now, while we are still resting on the success of this cartridge, rumors of a new delivery are heard.

This information indicates that Nintendo could already be working on a new Zelda that would continue the line released by Breath of the Wild and that would involve telling us a story in line with Tears of the Kingdom. That is, a kind of third installment of the games that have arrived for Switch. Which would be, in the eyes of any Nintendo fan, something practically unprecedented if we leave aside the inaugural releases on NES or Nintendo 64.

But it has been the thinking head of the last great Zelda, Eiji Aonuma, who wanted to put a stop to those rumors that the Japanese are already developing a kind of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom 2 and has decided to cut it short . The next game in the franchise will not be a continuation of the one that arrived at the end of May 2023, so, we imagine, it will take a new direction.

Aonuma has confessed that if a third installment of this saga that began with Breath of the Wild and continued by Tears of the Kingdom were made, it would be "a sequel to a sequel, which becomes a bit beastly when you think about it." Project that even for the famous producer it seems excessive to take advantage of to develop a new title that would once again take material that we have all seen and enjoyed since 2017.

 

 

So nothing of that.

And one of the big criticisms that have been leveled at Nintendo regarding The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is that we had already seen a very high percentage of the content in Breath of the Wild and the – brilliant – addition of Crafting and construction can only be understood from the need to turn that defect into a virtue and give the game an extra depth that distracts us from focusing too much on what was identical to the previous installment.

Even if you are one of those who are part of Team Tears of the Kingdom and consider yourself a fervent defender of this second installment, we understand that you will be happy that Nintendo does not sell you for the third time a cartridge that is still basically Breath of the Wild with some additions and extra maps in what is one of the occasions in which the Japanese have managed to anger many of their most loyal followers.

Not in vain, for many, playing The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was like revisiting Breath of the Wild and that instantly took them away from enjoying it as it surely deserved. But faced with the possibility of repeating the play, Nintendo has preferred to say enough is enough. So thank goodness... don't you think?
