An American icon, one of Chrysler's best-known and long-produced cars, is about to leave us. We are referring to the already veteran Chrysler 300, which will suspend production towards the end of this month. However, in anticipation of that closure, the most desired model in the range, the 300C with a Hemi engine, says goodbye to the team of mechanics at the Brampton plant in Canada.

The history of the 300C

The 300 was born in 1955 as a luxury and customizable coupe. In 1957, engineers placed a 392 Hemi engine in the front, which changed the character of the model. This car was known as 300C.

Then, in the Daimler-Chrysler decade, the 300 came back to life under the name 300M, albeit with front-wheel drive and as a successor to the futuristic Eagle Vision. The true heir would arrive in 2005, with the name 300 "plainly" and based on the rear-wheel drive LX platform, developed in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz (it has elements and developments taken directly from the E-Class and S-Class).

Being for many the real successor of the original 300, due to its rear-wheel drive and its retro-futuristic design, it was obvious that it was also going to receive a Hemi heart.

The first in 50 years for a car with the Chrysler badge. That car was the new 300C, powered by a 340 HP 5.4 Hemi. Then in 2011, the power rose to 363 HP and finally, in its last year of production, it already had a 6.4-liter Hemi with 485 HP, which allowed it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.

It is worth noting that the Chrysler 300 had two generations, although in reality it was a profound facelift.

The last of his kind

Since the plans to resurrect Chrysler go hand in hand with electromobility, it was logical that the 300 had to be said goodbye at some point. The final 300C wears a Velvet Red color, Brembo calipers, an LSD differential, active suspension, black accents, and a special tricolor badge.

"Our workforce here at Brampton Assembly has a reputation for building high-quality cars and the Chrysler 300C was no different," said plant manager Alex Pittas. "We are proud of the work and detail we have put into the last 2,200 units that have come off our assembly line in 2023."
