[Sport] The anecdotes of Oscar and Jonatan Castellano, father and son idols of the TC: the Reutemann diver, the Milanese girl who got complicated on the track and a strong revelation

Throughout its 86 years, Road Tourism forged a strong family tradition and the Castellanos are a faithful example. Oscar was three-time champion in 1987, 1988 and 1989, and is one of the greatest idols of Argentine motorsport. His son Jonatan has been in the po[CENSORED]r category since 2006 in which he won eight finals, fought for titles and is the great reference for Dodge, the brand with which his father achieved his first two championships (the other was with Ford). Infobae spoke with both and they have beautiful stories of what it is like to share a life linked to motorsports.

They are from Lobería, a town in the South of Buenos Aires located 454 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires. It is part of a very strong iron region and Pincho Castellano (09/15/1948) made his first weapons in the zones and in 1971 he was champion of the “Cafeteras”, which were modified cupecitas and received that nickname due to their appearance. He later raced in the National Formula 2 and used a diver that Carlos Alberto Reutemann used in Ferrari. Already in the TC he was an early figure in the early eighties and starred in an unforgettable duel with Roberto Mouras.

El Pinchito came into the world on May 16, 1985 at the height of his father's heyday and from a very young age he accompanied him to the racetracks. Although Oscar retired when Jonatan was six years old, his crush and love for this sport captivated him since he was a child. They share this passion as their work in his field, which is a family business promoted by grandfather Néstor.

“It was the classic thing before going out to a final, calling him on the phone, talking to him, and after the race going to have coffee with milk at his house.

 

 

Obviously he misses it,” recalls Jonatan, who hopes to be able to switch to Ford due to a special request from Néstor. “The change of brand to Ford was due to a promise to the greatest Castellano, who always asked me to move to Ford, who wanted me to join the brand of which he is a fan. It will be for later,” he anticipates and it would be in 2025 with a Ford Mustang, one of the new generation cars.

Regarding this renewal of the cars, he states that “it is what is expected and evolution is moving forward. Without a doubt, when the coupecitas were around and the current cars arrived, there was a strong discussion like the one there is now, but I think that in the medium and long term it will be for the better. "I always imagined myself riding a Falcon, but it's the Mustang's turn to appear."

“The family passion comes from the beginning of TC. My dad's name is Oscar Roberto after the Gálvez brothers. From there, the old man's story enriched our passion for motorsports. It is the continuity with that legacy that I enjoy so much,” explains Pinchito.

“Jon”, as Oscar calls his son, started in karting and then made his debut in cars in Formula Renault. In 2005 he was champion of the TC Pista, which is the category before the TC, and since that time he has raced with a Dodge coupe that recreates the mythical “Clockwork Orange” that his father prepared and with which he achieved glory.

“You start because you like him. In my case it was because of a friend who raced karting and then time passed. I started on a Formula and at times I almost ended up down due to the situation in the country, but thank God we were able to continue,” he says about his beginnings.
