[Animals] Brodie, the German shepherd who survived his mother's attack and found the love of a family

Brodie is a German shepherd who suffered his mother's contempt as a newborn. The canine was attacked by his mother when he was 13 days old. The bite to the skull caused serious facial injuries: his jaw was uneven and he is partially blind in one eye.
The people who took care of Brodie when he was a puppy managed to save his life and as the weeks went by they found loving owners who added him to his family. Amanda Richter and Brad Ames fell in love with the German Shepherd as soon as they saw a photo of him on social media and decided to start the adoption process.

The couple traveled to Old MacDonald Kennels in Alberta, Canada, to adopt him and that same day they decided to take him home. Shelter management explained that the dog caught the attention of several people, however, Amanda and Brad were a perfect fit for the animal.

Surviving contempt

Amanda Richter commented in an interview for the YouTube channel, GeoBeats Animals, that the veterinarian who treated Brodie believed that the dog was not going to survive due to the severity of his injuries. A family became interested in him before them, however, they returned him when he was six months old due to health problems.

Although he suffered too much in the first months of his life, Brodie was quite lucky and found a second family, with whom he will stay for the rest of his life. The owners of the crooked-faced canine explained that sometimes the animal can be a little hyperactive but the reality is that it just needs a little “patience.”

“We met him, we took him for a walk and we were with him for a few hours and we ended up taking him home the same day,” said Amanda Richter in an interview with Yahoo News. “He's definitely hyperactive but he's very intelligent. “His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks in 10 minutes, which tells me that he is a smart boy,” she added.

His new owners considered that his face is like a Picasso painting and that his personality is his best letter of introduction, since he is a loving canine that knows how to adapt to different situations.

Brodie's way

Richter explained that as the German Shepherd grew, he had health problems, his bones did not grow naturally and his injuries worsened. “Everything was twisting and fusing,” he explained of the way his face became more and more deformed.

His jaw is completely crooked, his teeth are not aligned and this ultimately causes some muscles in his face to stretch and others to contract, which completely atrophies his face. Brodie's owner shared that this is why one of his eyes protrudes to the side, while the other eyeball is partially blind.
