[Hardware] This mini PC has the ASUS ROG Ally CPU, but without its limitations

Have you ever wondered what would happen if we made a mini PC with the processor of a console like the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go? Well today you can find out, since we have been able to see a prototype of the future Phoenix Edge Z1 Mini PC.

This equipment would be made up of the Ryzen Z1 APU, the CPU with improved graphics that the latest generation consoles have, but how will it perform as a computer? We are going to discover all its details and characteristics, because one thing is clear: it will not have the biggest limitation that it has in portable consoles: consumption.

This is the Phoenix Edge Z1 Mini PC
And, despite being a prototype, a YouTuber called ETA PRIME has already been able to test it, so we can see, in a clearer and more realistic way, all the characteristics of this miniature computer made up of the same processor that runs the ROG. Ally, among others.

This raises doubts about whether it will really go on the market or if collective financing is expected for it. Surely this prototype has been created to see the public's reaction, and thus know if its manufacturing is really worth it, so, although it is likely that we will see it, we do not believe it will be in the short term.

Thanks to this design we can really see the power of the AMD Ryzen Z1 because we forget about the limitations that a console has, such as, mainly, cooling, which means that we cannot see how far it could go. However, thanks to this model, we can verify it.

In the tests carried out by this YouTuber, which we will leave you below, an improvement can be observed with respect to the scores given by the consoles, something that could be expected, however, its TDP is around 40W, not being able to improve that mark much, something that does not quite convince and does not offer anything striking.

While it is true that we will have better performance than in an ASUS ROG Ally, the difference is not as much as one might expect and, therefore, despite being a great option, it is not surprising.

ETA Prime mentions that a new "Extreme" model would be planned, which would improve these weak points, however, we cannot talk about something that we do not know how it will work, but rather about what we have in sight today, and, despite To be good, it leaves us with a strange taste in our mouths.

In any case, the price would have to be analyzed, from there it would depend on whether it is an acceptable model or not. The YouTuber estimates it at $299, although of course, that is what he believes it should be worth for power and performance, now we will see, if it goes on the market, how much we are talking about.

And you, what do you think of this mini PC? For that price, would it seem like a good option to you, or are you looking for greater power? It would really be much cheaper than the console and we would have more power, although of course, with other limitations. We will wait to see what the company does and if it really shows us another improved model before launch, although it is also possible that everything comes to nothing.
