Turkey is an orange cat who wanted to go unnoticed in a backyard to stay and live with her newborn felines in one of the gaps between some wooden boards, however, her mission was discovered by the owners of the home.

The resident, instead of removing them from his house, decided to support them and gave them a safer den, under a roof and a space where they have everything they need. The man explained to the rescuer that the cats were in a makeshift shelter under a foam board leaning against a fence.

Kali, a local animal rescuer, opened the doors of her shelter to the cat family and as the days passed, the kittens' mother quickly settled in and understood that it was the ideal place for her babies to grow up.

Capture the mom

The director of the Turtle and Foster Friends shelter explained in an interview for the Love Meow blog that when they went to pick up Turkey they had to make a whole plan to catch her, since at first she showed very hostile behavior and did not allow anyone to get close to her. children.

“She showed how smart she is and moved all the newborn babies to my friend's backyard,” Kali said. “We placed her babies in a carrier at one end of the trap with one of her kittens. “She went to look for her baby in a matter of minutes,” she explained about how they managed to catch the cat.

Kali shared that in the first few days the feline was not afraid of people touching her, however, she was apathetic and she just wanted to be next to her creatures. The rescuer explained that the animal changed its behavior as soon as it felt safe in the shelter.

“After about three days I was able to pet her and she even showed signs of enjoying my pets. Now, she meows at me for her wet food in the morning,” she shared. Turkey has now completely adapted to life in a house and the shyness she had with people completely disappeared.

Although the cat spends most of her time with her babies, now every time people come to the shelter, Turkey likes to stand next to her and she begins to “meow” as if she wanted to exchange with people.

The hard work of being a mom

The shelter administration explained that the babies are three weeks old and although they are only puppies, they already showed an active and very curious personality, for this reason Turkey does not take his eyes off them.

“She feeds and cleans them constantly, as five is a lot of work. “She is very protective and she watches me like a hawk when I bring a kitten in for a checkup,” the rescuer explained. Kali shared that the five cubs are very demanding and like to be in warm places.
