2023 Bolt EV front three-quarter backed-in on a residential driveway

Thinking it's time to ditch gas and go electric? It's a good idea, but it's important to have a budget in mind because depending on the model you choose, you'll see massive differences in price. The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt starts at just $26,500, but this low-priced entry-level EV, and its EUV hatchback counterpart, will be discontinued after the 2023 model year. Prices can soar to well over $100,000 for an electric SUV, pickup or high-performance luxury car. Though most electric vehicles (EVs) are still more expensive than comparable gasoline-powered models, the difference is getting smaller, year by year. When you consider the cost of fuel, maintenance and purchase incentives, the price differences are reduced or eliminated. Most electric cars and SUVs still come with federal, state, local and utility buying incentives, thanks in part to provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. With increasing ranges and lower relative costs, today's EVs are no longer just niche vehicles. There are now models in nearly every vehicle class, from compact hatchbacks to sports cars to full-size pickup trucks. In this guide, we'll look at the prices of the EVs you can either buy today or will be able to purchase soon. Note that some of the models listed aren't yet available for sale or are sold out for the foreseeable future and thus may be subject to additional dealer markups – in other words, dealers might charge extra to take advantage of limited inventory. Not every EV is available for purchase or lease in every state. In some cases, the prices shown are from manufacturers' product announcements and may not match the final pricing when the vehicle goes on sale. The range figures shown come from the EPA or automakers, if official numbers are not available. Electric Cars These mainstream electric car models are the lowest-priced electric cars you can buy today. With the exception of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Hyundai Ioniq 6, they have shorter ranges than you'll find in other EV classes.Luxury electric cars typically have higher performance and, in many cases, greater range than their mainstream counterparts. They also have higher price tags, with some models going for well over $100,000. While traditional automakers are making a growing number of luxury electric cars, there are some new companies in the game, including Lucid and Polestar.
