Fernando Alonso is about to finish his debut season at Aston Martin. The two-time Formula 1 world champion has been able to return to the elite of the king of motorsports in 2023, standing on the podium up to eight times with his new team. Tied on points with the other Spaniard on the grid, Carlos Sainz, the last Grand Prix of the year, in Abu Dhabi, will serve to definitively know how the fourth and fifth places in the drivers' World Championship are distributed.

After the euphoria of Brazil, with that third place tied by just 53 hundredths against Checo Pérez's Red Bull, came a race in no man's land in Las Vegas. The debut of the new American circuit of the championship was not very satisfactory for Alonso. He started ninth and finished in the same position, after seeing his performance hampered as soon as he started: in the first corner, he went off and spun, including contact with Valtteri Bottas, which forced him to go into the pits to fix the damage. The consequence of the misfortune was that he began to occupy the back of the grid.

Although the Spaniard recovered and ended up getting into the points, he did not seem completely convinced by the initiatory experience in Sin City. “The truth is that I started well, but in the first corner I lost the car.

I don't know if I was among several cars or if it was just me... But when I saw Bottas's Alfa Romeo in front, I thought the race was over. The grip level of the track was very low. With the cold hard tire it was difficult for us. I am aware that this problem is the same for everyone, but asphalt without grip on a street circuit is quite dangerous. We have done more than we thought, Lance started P19 and finished 5th, very top. With me we have lost an opportunity, but hey, I started 10th, I finished P9, it's okay”, he resigned himself to the conclusion of the event.

In fact, he left some obvious complaints, even though he expressed confidence that Las Vegas' second year on the calendar will be better. “These cars are not made to take curves at 80 kilometers per hour,” he admitted, although he also stated that “overall it was a good event.”

Alonso and José Andrés saw each other in Las Vegas
The Las Vegas GP brought a smile to Alonso's face, as well as a good time, as he was able to meet an Asturian celebrity like him and with whom he has a friendship: José Andrés. It was his countryman cook who decided to attest to the moment through social networks, specifically Instagram. “It's always good to meet a great Asturian boy. A great friend. Thank you for all the great moments that you have made us live”, was the text with which he accompanied an image in which both appear in Las Vegas.
