Capacity per module, frequencies and efficiency are increased, among other aspects. Micron has just announced the first 128 GB capacity DDR5 RDIMM memory modules. This has been achieved thanks to new monolithic matrix memories that offer 32 Gb. There are several aspects that change between DDR4 and DDR5 memories. The first and most notable is the increase in capacity per module that goes from 8 GB to 16 GB. In addition, the frequencies are increased, going from the "standard" 3,200 MHz to the new 4,800 MHz. One of the least talked about aspects of DDR5 is the possibility of using ECC technology. This technology allows the correction of errors in one bit, avoiding stability problems that can generate performance losses or blue screens. Large increase in capacity per module Micron has announced new DDR5 RDIMM modules aimed at servers. These new 128 GB modules allow frequencies of up to 8,000 MT/s, designed for modern Data Centers. Specifically, these modules have been developed for critical applications such as cloud solutions, artificial intelligence or databases, among others. The new memories are based on industry-leading 1β (1-beta) technology. This manufacturing process allows for chips with a density of 32 Gb in order to develop modules of up to 128 GB. Offers improvements over competing 3D products using TSV. Thanks to all these innovations, a 45% bit density improvement is achieved. These new memories offer a 16% improvement in latency and a performance improvement for AI training of up to 28%. All this with an improvement in energy efficiency of up to 24%. Aspects that are achieved through an innovative matrix that increases efficiency and density. Voltage control and update management systems are added to improve efficiency. These new 128 GB professional cutting modules will have different working frequencies. Initially, 4,800 MHz, 5,600 MHz and 6,400 MHz modules will be supplied by 2024 and in the future it could reach 8,000 MHz without problems. Quite a great achievement that will eventually reach the home user, but it will still take time. These types of solutions are great, as they allow you to increase capacity and reduce sales prices. Micron's new 32Gb memories could allow future expansion to more advanced standards such as MCRDIMM and MRDIMM, standardized by JEDEC.
