[Politics] Jouannet evades definition before plebiscite but highlights 12 edges as foundations of democracy

In conversation with Al Pan Pan with Mirna Schindler, the president of Amarillos, Andrés Jouannet, avoided referring to his party's position regarding the exit plebiscite, but he slipped the idea that they will support the “For” option because the text maintains the 12 agreed constitutional bases.

The deputy and president of Amarillos, Andrés Jouannet, avoided referring to the position that his party will take - considering that in the previous constitutional process they were supporting the "Rejection" option - but highlighted 12 edges of the current proposal as foundations of democracy.

In conversation with Al Pan Pan with Mirna Schindler, Jouannet initially stated that this constitutional proposal is not one that completely unites the country, but that the 12 borders are “a great advance” because “they are the founding elements of a democracy. Democracy is not more or less semi-democracy. Democracy is democracy, there is no such thing as semi-democracy. So, you have democracy and you have non-democracy.”

“These twelve edges - that Chile is a Social State of Law and respecting the national emblems, among others - guaranteed a high-intensity democracy. That said, the construction, in some way regulated the discussion, because those of us who were afraid also said that here this could go anywhere,” he added.

 

 

For the same reason, he did not advance a possible position of Amarillo regarding this new constituent process, but he pointed to a possible support for the “For” option, because he rescues “those twelve edges, which are very important.”

Regarding possible criticism, Jouannet said that “there are things that really should not be in the Constitution. But we have to put a counterweight and if I continue speaking out, I'm going to start speaking out about this. I prefer not to comment on that. What I do believe is that here we lost the opportunity (…) once it was the councilors' choice that we would all have gotten to work so that they could produce a consensual text like that of the experts.”

Regarding the possibility of reforming the text once it is approved, Jouannet again avoided the topic, because in his opinion, “there are many matters. We are going to have to speak in parliament because what we have to do now if it is approved (...) we are going to have a lot of work in the next two years if it is approved, a lot of work, because deep down, there is also a lot of opportunity to improve , without a doubt, because everything can be improved, everything can be perfected because reality changes.”
