UN experts called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, supervised by an independent international body, the release of hostages taken by Hamas and Palestinians arbitrarily detained by Israel, and the provision of financial and humanitarian assistance within the framework of the creation of humanitarian corridors for Gazans. All this within the framework of Israel's order for 1.1 million people to evacuate the northern part of the Gaza Strip before the arrival of Israeli ground troops.

A group of United Nations experts have called for a truce between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Israeli Army, and have urged the international community to address the causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“As the number of civilian deaths from violence increases, we call for an immediate reduction in tensions in the region and an effective response from the international community based on international law and the protection of equal rights and dignity of everyone,” they said in a joint statement.

Experts call in the short term for an “immediate” end to human rights violations, a ceasefire agreement that is supervised by an independent international organization, the release of hostages taken by Hamas and Palestinians arbitrarily detained by Israel, and the provision of financial and humanitarian aid within the framework of the creation of humanitarian corridors for Gazans.

“Breaking the cycle of violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory is paramount. Armed attacks and military responses have already proven incapable of achieving security and respect for Human Rights.

 

 

"The restoration of international legality, accountability and respect for the humanity and dignity of all must prevail, including the end of Israel's 56 years of military occupation," they said.

The experts have “strongly condemned the horrendous crimes committed by Hamas” as well as Israel’s “indiscriminate military attacks against the already exhausted Palestinian people of Gaza, comprising more than 2.3 million people, almost half of whom are children".

“They have lived under an illegal blockade for 16 years and have already gone through five major brutal wars (…). This amounts to collective punishment. There is no justification for violence directed indiscriminately at innocent civilians, whether by Hamas or Israeli forces,” the text continues, recalling that it is “absolutely prohibited by International Law and constitutes a war crime.”

Since the start of the offensive last Saturday, 1,200 deaths have been reported in Israel and 1,500 in Gaza, to which more than 35 deaths have been reported in operations and clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank.

Previously, the United Nations announced that the Ministry of Defense and the Israeli Army have given a period of 24 hours to evacuate 1.1 million Palestinians who are in the northern area of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Resistance Movement. Islamic (Hamas).
UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric explained to the Axios news portal that the Israeli side had given a notice “just before midnight (local time)” that the Palestinians should evacuate to the southern part of the enclave.
