Hundreds of beautifully restored classic Porsches filled the parking lots and the Laguna Seca Circuit itself, during the seventh edition of the Rennsport Reunion, the largest global event dedicated to the Porsche world, which brought together more than 90 thousand followers last weekend. and fans of the brand and motorsports in general on the Californian coast.

But among all the Porsches that filled the mountains and roads in the Monterey area, there were three that stood out as the winners of the 2023 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, organized by Porsche North America.

The Restoration Challenge is aimed at cars manufactured between the years 1950 and 2000. This year and for the first time, all Porsche Centers in the United States were invited to compete in one of three categories: Preservation, Restoration and Individualization.

Around 70 vehicles were entered into the competition, and after an exhaustive pre-selection, 9 finalist cars were exhibited during Rennsport Reunion 7, where the champions were crowned, chosen by Porsche Classic specialists, in addition to a winner by po[CENSORED]r vote.

Individualization winner: 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupé (Beverly Hills)

This 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 received treatment similar to the Porsche Sonderwunsch (special wishes) program.

The engine was disassembled, degreased, cleaned with dry ice, steamed and put through a tumbler to make it new again. The cylinders were bored and new pistons and liners installed. Upgraded racing springs and valves were fitted, before the heads were modified to receive new gaskets. A single-mass flywheel replaced the dual-mass flywheel and the crankcase was modified to fit a high-performance GT3 oil pump. The cooling fan was painted Speed Yellow, to match the leather interior, which was touched up and French stitching was added in Speed Yellow. The headliner was then replaced with Alcantara and the instrument panel was customized with a Speed Yellow tachometer with the Porsche 75th Anniversary logo.

Restoration winner: 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 Type 964 (Napleton Westmon)

This 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 had a nice looking paint job, although the interior needed work. The entire car was stripped down to bare metal and epoxy primed, sanded and repainted in 3 coats of Porsche Black, all finished in 3 coats of clear. After weeks of sanding and wet polishing, the car was ready to return to final assembly. The exterior underwent a final polish before the headlights, taillights, corner markers and bumpers were reinstalled. Once the interior was finished with new carpets and reupholstered seats, the car was ready for its Rennsport debut.
