The Toyota Corolla is a car that needs no introduction. Whether you like cars or not, the language you speak, the country where you live, I can bet that you have at least seen one pass by or have gotten into one, from whatever era. It is the most recognized Japanese car and also the best selling.

In 1983, the fifth generation of the model (E80) was presented, which had a lot of variants and body types. Not all of them were sold in all countries but in general we can talk about seven combinations, differentiated by the engines they were equipped with. There was a four-door sedan and a five-door liftback variant, two three- and five-door hatchbacks, a two-door coupe and a three-door liftback version.

Of all these models, only the sportiest models retained the rear-wheel drive of the previous generation (E70), such as the AE85 and AE86, both only available in a two-door coupe or three-door "liftback" version. And of both configurations, the most desired was of course the AE86, due to its accessibility, the elasticity of its engine and its noble behavior, not to mention that it had better technical equipment, such as ventilated disc brakes or an optional LSD differential. Homologated in Group N and Group A of the FIA, it was a rally car, track car, drift icon and thanks to video games.

Best Motoring videos and of course, the Initial D manga, an absolute legend on a global level. . Toyota is even reproducing original parts for collectors and restorers.

Since then, 40 years of history have passed, where the baton left by the AE86 was picked up 30 years later by the Toyota 86 and its brother, the Subaru BRZ. Both models are already in their second generation, so it is logical that the GR86 is the model that commemorates the car from which it was inspired.

40 years later...

The first thing is the aesthetics. The brand offers two colors, red and white, with black stripes on the doors, thus imitating the style of the two-tone AE86. In addition, the stripes incorporate a commemorative graphic written in the square font of the original Sprinter Trueno. This is accompanied by a sporty spoiler, black door handles and 18" gray wheels, which are probably an indirect tribute to the famous "Watanabe" that were so po[CENSORED]r on these cars.
