[Politics] Senator Lagos Weber: “I hope the budget is not used to try to hit the Government”

Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD) awaits the special session of the mixed commission that will receive the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, who will present the parameters that were taken to prepare the 2024 Budget Law project, which will be presented this week. As such, the "most important project of each year", according to the parliamentarian, awaits a serious debate between the ruling party and the opposition, and that it is not used as a political cock, but rather that the citizens are thought about.

Key week for the Government of President Gabriel Boric, since in the coming days it will formally present the Budget bill for the year 2024, which will be focused on economic reactivation and security.

Although there is nothing official yet, some things are clear: the axes, those that have "to do with (economic) reactivation, with social issues," according to the Government spokesperson, Camila Vallejo; and the position of the opposition. Will they be in favor of the project or will they have objections that will delay its discussion? This will be resolved no later than September 30, when the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, will speak on the matter before the mixed commission.

 

 

In that instance will be Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber (PPD), member of the Finance Commission of the Upper House, who in conversation with El Mostrador ruled out that the Executive would allow itself to be carried away by pressure from the opposition to install different topics on the agenda.

Regarding the Budget Law, Lagos Weber assured that it is the “most important project of each year, since it allows the functioning of the various public departments and the execution of the different government programs. Therefore, the discussion that occurs must be very serious and based on concrete data and information. This budget must be adjusted to the reality and fiscal responsibility of our country and, in that case, the report on the State of the Public Treasury will be crucial, in which the Government will inform us about the assumptions with which this budget was prepared (dollar , inflation, copper price projection, employment, external debt, international situation and other income, among other elements). The issues of transparency in the use of public resources must be part of the discussion of this law,” said the senator.
