Both the Government and Carabineros highlighted the police operation that ended with the capture of 11 people, among whom are important members of the armed group Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche (RML) and two Carabineros; one a retired official and the other an active member of a police unit in Arauco, who would have collaborated with the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance by sharing information. General César Bobadilla, head of the VIII Carabineros Zone, referred to the uniformed man who was active in a police unit in Arauco, identified as First Corporal Darwin Castillo. In this regard, he assured that it was the Department of Internal Affairs itself that detected the situation and subsequently reported it to the Prosecutor's Office.

“Today, Arauco is a little safer.” This is how the Minister(s) of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, defined the police operation that ended with the capture of 11 people, among whom are important members of the armed group Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche (RML) and two Carabineros; one a retired official and the other an active member of a police unit in Arauco, who would have collaborated with the Mapuche Lafkenche Resistance by sharing information.

Along with congratulating the work of the Investigative Police (PDI), Minister(s) Monsalve stated that “serious work in criminal prosecution allows the country to have results in the identification and dismantling of criminal organizations.”

In that sense, he explained that it is an “organization dedicated to the theft of wood and vehicles and investigated in relation to two arson attacks in February and April 2022 and that has involved developing a long investigation to gather scientific evidence to determine its responsibility".

 

 

Regarding the figures, Monsalve highlighted that during 2022 and 2023, there are 325 convictions regarding violence in the southern macrozone. In addition to 327 defendants, of which 124 are in preventive detention. “There were no results of this nature in terms of criminal prosecution in periods prior to this government,” he celebrated.

Regarding the complaints filed by the Executive, Monsalve assured that the Interior has 289 complaints filed and participates in 870 cases. “Many times we are criticized because it is said that we present complaints as if it were an administrative act, but no, it is participating in the process to request procedures that allow us to identify those responsible and allow their arrest as happened today,” he concluded. .

A “criminal”

“I want to emphasize and be emphatic that this situation is of the utmost seriousness. We are not talking about a police officer, we are directly talking about a criminal who shared information that could even put the lives of our police officers and the rest of the community at risk. That is how serious his criminal actions were,” Bobadilla said.

“We not only condemn his action, but we also repudiate it with the greatest of strength. Criminals like this have no place in our ranks,” he added.
