[Politics] President Boric warns at the UN climate summit about the “greenwashing” of companies

President Gabriel Boric, within the framework of his trip to the United States to participate in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, participated in the Climate Action Summit, an event that was marked by the intervention of international leaders, who referred to the crisis and climate change. Here the President delivered a speech in which he called to stop burning fossil fuels and to “react to the greenwashing” carried out by large companies, where, through marketing strategies, they seek to achieve a positive ecological positioning.

President Gabriel Boric had a day marked by the fight against climate change in the United States, a country to which he traveled to participate in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, in its 78th edition. In the first instance, he participated in the Panel of High Level for a Sustainable Ocean Economy: “Accelerating the Implementation of Ocean-Based Climate Actions”, and later, he was at the signing ceremony of the Biodiversity of Areas Outside National Jurisdiction agreement.

However, his most important participation of the day was in the Climate Action Summit, an event that was marked by the intervention of international leaders, who referred to the crisis and climate change.

 

 

Here the President delivered a speech in which he called to stop burning fossil fuels and to “react to the greenwashing” carried out by large companies, where, through marketing strategies, they seek to achieve a positive ecological positioning.

“The climate crisis is the fossil fuel crisis, and therefore, we have to stop burning fossil fuels and that means very specifically that we also have to react to the greenwashing that is constantly being carried out by companies that continue to carry out and continue to advance in These practices in some cases are also supported by countries,” said President Boric.

In that context, he said that from Chile he calls “for us to also take charge of that and not be satisfied only with the national commitments we make, which are very important, without a doubt, but which is not enough. Multinationals and financial capital also have to submit to these rules and this debate.”

“It seems to me that the democratic promise is precisely also to fulfill the task of making our planet viable to live a dignified life and this is not going to happen (…) if this international community does not commit to new rules in this new world. We have to make more ambitious reforms,” he added.
