[Hardware] Nintendo Switch 2: this information fits us more

Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be a reality that, today, few know if we will see it go on sale in 2024 or not. Due to the pace of updates and how the company usually manages times, it gives the impression that this could be the case, although today we are going to focus on its power, which, as many feared, will not be anywhere close to what PS5 or Xbox Series X|S perform.

If you remember, a few days ago information appeared that people who had had access to the new console claimed that its graphic power would be very similar to that of the new generation from Sony and Microsoft. We already gave you our opinion: that is impossible, knowing Nintendo and how it approaches each new batch of machines it has brought to stores since the Wii generation.

One step below
As many of us already predicted at the time, it is obvious that the Nintendo Switch is going to mean an increase in technical performance compared to the model we have in stores right now, but it is not going to be crazy cutting-edge either. The new machine gives every impression that it is going to be one step below the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S until it looks more like what was seen in the previous generation of PS4 and Xbox One.

This has been confirmed, in some way, by those who were at Activision at the end of last year, in December, when Nintendo showed the new hardware to the company with the clear objective of trying to convince them of all its advantages, so that some than another Call of Duty that many have missed on the current Switch that the Japanese have for sale.

 

 

An email between Activision employees revealed that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick spoke with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukaway about the new hardware and later, another member of the North American company came to say that "given the closer alignment to Gen8 platforms in terms of performance and seeing our previous releases on PS4/Xbox One, it's reasonable to assume that we could make something compelling for the NG Switch as well […] It would be helpful to ensure early access to development hardware prototypes and test it well and soon".

Switch 2 and the great sagas
It is clear that in order for a company to have launch games for a machine, they need to work in advance. If we take into account that developing for PS4 (and its errors) and Xbox One had been working at a good pace for at least three years, showing the console in December 2022 makes us think that 2024 is still too early to expect that Switch 2 arrives in stores. Unless Nintendo doesn't care that Activision doesn't have a game in time to sell them (maybe remakes of already released installments?).

Nintendo, for the future console, will not only want to have its own catalog of games that guarantee its success, but will also have the intention of having big franchises set foot in the stores at the same time as its new hardware: And is there anything better than landing with a release a more or less modern Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed or EA Sports FC?
