FNX Magokiler
The unusual incident occurred during work hours, during patient care, officials say. They also accuse that the same company tried to starve the birds, leaving them locked up and without food. Officials reported shots fired inside the Concepción Regional Hospital, during working hours, as part of an uninformed pest elimination procedure. The incident occurred in the Ambulatory Care Center building, where patients from the ophthalmology and neurology clinic are treated, there are maxillofacial service pavilions and laboratory areas. The director of the care center, Claudio Baeza, explained that the service was contracted due to the presence of pigeons; "an important biological risk in a health facility." However, given the questions generated by the actions of the company in charge, it was decided to "investigate the procedures" to check that they are "in accordance with current regulations," Baeza said. According to the complaining workers, at first a kind of "animal torture" was carried out, since a dozen pigeons were locked in the light patio of the facility with mesh, waiting for them to die of hunger. The situation was observed by the staff themselves and the patients, who, out of pity, gave them food. The confinement lasted a week, until officials came to speak with the hospital's sanitation manager, Carlos Ortiz Vásquez, who was asked to remove the meshes and not eliminate the animals. He responded that he would contact the company to make the withdrawal. However, on Friday, August 18, at 5:00 p.m., workers began to hear gunshots from inside the facility, towards the ceilings and six floors of the building. They claim that no one informed them of the situation, which generated shock and fear, and that the remains of the animals were visible, as was the ballistic evidence in the windows of the complex. The pest control company worker who shot was confronted by the health personnel, hid the weapon from him and defended himself by saying that the hospital managers had asked him to eliminate the birds. https://www.cooperativa.cl/noticias/pais/salud/hospitales/denuncian-que-empresa-elimino-a-tiros-una-plaga-de-palomas-en-el/2023-08-23/132318.html Edited September 20, 2023 by [Ty]M@g0k1l3r T/C.
