It is a national reference zoo with a staff of 210 workers. It works as a Decentralized Service attached to the Government of Lara State. It is part of the Venezuelan Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AVZA), which is a member of the Latin American Association of Zoos and Aquariums (ALPZA). It is registered with the Ministry of Po[CENSORED]r Power for Ecosocialism and Water (MINEA) before the National Foundation of Zoos and Aquariums of Venezuela (FUNPZA), under the number ZOO-AC-V011. In 1965, 22 ha were totaled, while it currently has an area of 18.5 ha. History On July 24, 1939, Governor Lino Díaz decreed the construction of Concordia Avenue, whose route included a space of 110 ha. On November 30 of the same year, his successor, Dr. Honorio Sigala, ordered the secluded space to be fenced off to form a reforestation forest, which would be named Bararida Botanical Park. In 1964, when Miguel Romero Antoni arrived in the governorate, he ordered the fencing of 22 of the 110 hectares initially planned and then proceeded to form the central lagoon at its highest point, in addition to building the entrance and the path flanked by the chaguaramos.
