Max Payne is a 3D environment, third-person shooter video game developed for the PlayStation 2 by Finnish company Remedy Entertainment, written by Sam Lake, produced by 3D Realms, and published by Gathering of Developers in July 2001. The game was also brought to other platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation 2, Macintosh, and Game Boy Advance. A Dreamcast version was also planned, but was canceled for unannounced reasons (probably due to the Dreamcast's declining po[CENSORED]rity). In April 2022, Remedy, together with developer Rockstar Games, announced a remake of both this game and its sequel. The adaptation will be developed under the Northlight game engine (owner of Remedy) and will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.

Game system
Through levels or phases, with pauses with cinematic sequences in which the player does not intervene, simply observe the development. These pauses develop the story through videos and a graphic novel, that is, in these presentations, cartoons appear, they appear as the previous presentation ends, since in addition to the image, and the speech bubbles in which the characters speak, the The cartoons are endowed with sounds and the voices of the characters that appear in them, this being a very original and characteristic style of this game.

Argument
The game begins in early 2001, in New York, in the worst snow storm in the city's history. In the introductory sequence, Max Payne, a DEA agent and former NYPD officer, standing on top of a building as the police rush towards him (the game begins in a final cinematic), Max experiences a memory from three years ago, going back to 1998. Max was returning home during a normal work day, but as he entered his house he heard his wife Michelle screaming his name from upstairs in a desperate tone. When Payne arrives at the scene, he finds her and her baby Rose hers murdered at the hands of designer drug addicts Valkyr, whom he ends up eliminating. Prisoner of the pain of his recent loss, he decides to investigate who is behind this terrible inhumane act.

Max Payne on Game Boy Advance
The Game Boy Advance version of the game was developed by Mobius Entertainment Ltd, now known as Rockstar Leeds. The gameplay differs quite a bit from the original: instead of being in a 3D environment, the game is sprite-based and has an isometric perspective. However, some features such as the story and the bullet time remain, although some levels of the original were omitted. The game even includes a large part of the graphic novel from the original with the respective voices.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

In the game's sequel, Max Payne leaves the drug enforcement agency and returns to the New York Police Department, getting rid of the charges that they had against him thanks to Alfred Woden's political influences. Everything seems to have returned to normal when he finds himself confronted by a gang of delinquents who have a cover as cleaners, whom he later ends up "baptizing" as "Commandos". During his investigation, he becomes romantically entangled with the hired assassin Mona Sax, who already made an appearance in the first part and Max believed dead when she was shot in the head (to save Max) inside an elevator in the high-rise building of Horne, the bastard who used Max as a lab rat. From there he begins a race through various scenarios where he must kill different thugs, gangs and bands with better weapons than the first part but, unfortunately, the destructive M79 grenade launcher does not appear. After a tangled fight between Max and "The Cleaners", Max discovers that the leader was Vladimir "The Capo of the Russian mafia" who helps him against Punchinello in the first part, Vladimir jealous of the supposed relationship between Max and Mona decides shoot the stunning assassin to the ire of Max. This version has two endings:

Mona dies in Max's arms from Vladimir's gunshot, leaving Max the sole survivor of the shooting.
Mona manages to survive Vladimir's shot, being she, along with Max, one of the survivors of the shooting, although experts prefer to consider this ending where Mona survives.
