Grand Theft Auto IV (abbreviated as GTA IV or GTA 4) is an open-world action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North.5 The game, preceded by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, is the ninth title in the series. Grand Theft Auto and the first of it to appear on seventh generation video consoles. It was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Australia, Europe and North America on April 29, 20086 and in Japan on October 30, 2008.7 The Windows version of the game was released in North America on December 2, 2008 and in Europe. on December 3.894 Two downloadable episodes were developed for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3;10 the first was The Lost and Damned, released on February 17, 2009,1112 and the second was The Ballad of Gay Tony, which was released on October 29, 2009.13

The game's story takes place in Liberty City, a fictional city based heavily on modern New York City.1415 The protagonist of the plot is Niko Bellic, a war veteran from Eastern Europe,16 who emigrated to the United States United in search of the American dream promised by his cousin,17 but who is quickly dragged into a criminal underworld. Like other editions of the series, the game is comprised of driving and third-person shooter elements, and features open-world gameplay that gives players more control over their gaming experience. GTA IV is the first console game in the franchise to have native online multiplayer without mods, and contains fifteen game types.

A huge critical and commercial success, Grand Theft Auto IV broke video game industry records with sales of around 3.6 million units on its first day on the market, grossing more than $500 million in revenue and $6 million units sold worldwide, approximately, during its first week. 18 19 On June 9, 2010, Take-Two announced that the game had reached 17 million units sold worldwide. Grand Theft Auto IV received critical acclaim, especially directed at the open world design and narrative; being considered by many critics as one of the best video games of all time and becoming one of the most rated games of all time on rating compilation websites such as MobyGames,20 Metacritic21 and TopTenReviews.22

Synopsis
Grand Theft Auto IV tells the story of Niko Bellic, an illegal immigrant and veteran of the Bosnian War. After being convinced by his cousin Roman, who emigrated to Liberty City years before the start of the story in the game, Niko decides to leave Eastern Europe for Liberty City,16 where he hopes to forget his criminal past23 Shortly after Niko goes down from the merchant ship Platypus that brought him to the city, he discovers that the luxury and wealth Roman told him about in his letters and emails do not exist and finds himself in a world of debt and gangsters. Niko helps Roman with his problems and his taxi company while he tries to find his way in the new city.

The Statue of Liberty, represented in GTA IV as the Statue of Happiness, is the symbol of Liberty City and the place where the story ends.
Later, one of the secrets and reasons why Niko came to Liberty City is revealed, which is none other than finding the person who betrayed Niko and his army unit, all childhood friends. Niko creates ties to Liberty City's Russian Mafia through one of Roman's moneylenders, Vladimir Glebov. Roman later tells Niko that he suspects his girlfriend, Mallorie Bardas is cheating on him with Vlad, and asks Niko he did know, to which he just remains silent, and Roman accuses him of being disloyal, apologizes saying he didn't know he cared, and says he'll take care of fixing it. After "solving" the problem with Vlad by killing him and dumping his body in the Humboldt River, Niko begins working with bigger gangsters such as Mikhail Faustin, owner of the Perestroika club, and his collaborator, Dimitri Rascalov.25 Niko does various jobs for Faustin, including but his excesses cause Dimitri to order Niko to eliminate him. Niko murders Faustin in Perestroika on Dimitri's behalf, but is later betrayed by him. When Niko meets with Dimitri to collect the promised murder money, it is discovered that Dimitri was in cahoots with Ray Bulgarin, a former boss of Niko's, who shows up at the meeting and tries to kill him.2728 Niko flees from the ambushed with the help of Little Jacob, a Jamaican arms dealer who is a mutual friend of Roman and Niko. However, Dimitri and Bulgarin escape, so Jacob suggests dealing with them later.

Immediately afterwards, Niko and Román are forced to escape to Bohan when both his apartment in Broker and the taxi company are burned down.
