Dragon City is a free social networking game developed and published by Social Point. It was released on Facebook on May 8, 2012, iOS on March 21, 2013, and Android on July 3, 2013.12 In August 2013, the game was also released on Intel Atom tablets for Android.3

Dragon City is a free dragon game that follows players to raise their own dragons and design a city full of them on floating islands. Gold produced by dragons can be used to buy and upgrade buildings and habitats (these can also be upgraded with elemental tokens at later levels). Farms trade gold for food (which look like tomatoes), which can be used to level up dragons that evolve them, improve strength (health and power) depending on the dragon's rarity, and increase gold production. Breeding allows two dragons of level 4 or higher to produce a Hybrid Dragon or a Legendary Dragon. Gems are the premium currency that can be collected through in-app purchases; and for other tasks to collect gems.

Arenas, Leagues, and Quests are different types of battles where one of the player's three dragons fights one of the opponent's three dragons. When in battle, dragons can have a strong damage ability (but can also have low or no damage, as well as normal damage), depending on the dragon's elements. Leagues allow you to use any combination of dragons, including just one or two, assuming they've reached at least level 4. Additionally, arenas and quests may have additional requirements, such as items or rarity.

Once a player has reached player level 27, the Ancient World appears, which is an area of the game where gold can be exchanged for crystals (ruby, sapphire, topaz, emerald, onyx, diamond) that can be collected from the mines, which can be used to summon ancient dragons. The crafting station used to make crystals equivalent to the current crystal with numerous raw crystals and crystals previously crafted with platinum. Platinum is generated by ancient dragons in a similar way to how normal dragons generate gold.

As of October 2022, there are 1,781 dragons composed of basic dragon elements Earth, Fire, Sea, Nature, Electric, Ice, Metal, Dark, Light, War, Pure, Legendary, Primary, Wind, and Weather, while the elements of the ancient dragon are Beauty, Chaos, Magic, Dream, Soul and Happiness; there are nine guardian dragons (one tower per island for islands 1 through 9) that are used to enhance aspects of the entire game; and there are 18 ancient dragons in the ancient world.
